By the way the Yeti is a lot harder to fast kill now, it seems it’s impossible with a small tux :-/

You accepted a lot of 0.5.0 runs to the 0.4.0 category it seems, so the category should be renamed and the rules updated to make it clear which versions are accepted.

For me we should have a category for 0.5, and only allow one version in there, probably 0.5.1, as it was a bugfix for 0.5.0. But it seems runs from 0.5.X have already been accepted in the 0.4.0 category so it’s a bit too late :-/

I never submitted any run here using TAS, only speedrun I made with my gamepad.

Heh, of course if you don’t report your problems you cannot expect them to be fixed.

You seem a bit too negative. I’m glad this project get some releases from time to time and I think the editor is a good thing. The french translation at least is a lot better with this release.

If you got crashes you need to report them upstream and I’m sure they will work on it as it’s quite a big deal.

So I tried the new release a bit. The run is mostly the same apart from a few things. The Yeti quick kill is now impossible with a small tux from what I tried, so If you miss it the first time with the big tux you need to restart the level before dying or it’s a loss of 30s :-/

The new running animation feels a bit weird.

Why is this release a joke in your opinion? Some explanation would help. I did not test it yet but I intend to try to speedrun it when the Archlinux package gets updated.

Hey AD2, congrats for your run! I’m now following you on twitch, I hope you will run some more supertux, especially when 0.5.0 is out, we need to tackle it right away. We could race if you feel like it and if I derust first. You should deactivate the transitions in the options, it will save some precious seconds.

Oh, and sorry for all the french in the splits :-P

Wow, the game indeed crash when loading a fork in the road now. I’ll have to try and find out where this comes from… (maybe a driver problem? I know that OBS crashes because of libdrm these days when using DRI3)

Oh, BTW, I run ArchLinux as well, and had no problem running 0.4.0 so far. But I did not play since a few month, maybe a library update or something broke the game?

No, you must run 0.4.0 version to have valid times for 0.4.0 leaderboard. So you either need to find a way to fix 0.4.0 or wait for 0.5.0 (We will open a 0.5.0 leaderboard as soon as the release is out and someone makes a run with it. You can train with the git version as 0.5.0 is close to the release as far as I know, but you’ll need the release to have a valid time.)

Yeah 2 hours is a bit long for a fullgame run. Maybe running each Grand prix separatly would make for shorter run and more bearable.

But the nice thing about the full game run is that it mix all match styles (race, follow the leader, time trial…).

This is not «your» game, but I have no objections about you modding brmbrmcar, stop treating this modding stuff as if it is some battle between us. It’s not that important anyway.

Games needs runners more than mods if you want my opinion (but regarding STK indeed it was a bit low on mods and I’m not that active so it’s good brmbrmcar joins the team)

He already made a guide with his secrets, no need to be a mod for that. I already explained this.

Not sure 100% would be interesting, as it would mean a lot of back and forth no? Maybe not, as I answered to this question before I will open the category if someone does a run. I’m not sure if it makes sense to open it only for IL.

Also for full-game run realtime should be used as usual. for IL ingame time is fine.

thread: SuperTux
FranceMCMic9 years ago

Well it’s really not how it’s usually seen in speedrun. We use the game time when it’s accurate otherwise real time is the reference. It does not matter if the game is running at 68 FPS if it does so for everyone. Many speedrun techniques relies on exploiting the game bugs.

thread: SuperTux
FranceMCMic9 years ago

For me that proves that ingame time is not reliable and should not be used for runs.

thread: SuperTux
FranceMCMic9 years ago

I don’t see the problem. The game seems to go at normal speed no?
