Just so you know, all any% runs now require video so this no longer applies to any%. Other categories still have the time barrier though.

The sheet should be more public, like under the recourses tab or in a stickied forum post.
Its not hard to find a setup without a cap card. It takes some work but its a case of “if you wanna keep running/run at all, dont be lazy and find a setup”
As for what i think it should be, id say sub 3:30 sounds good. Nice, even number that isn’t extremely free but isnt extremely hard. The problem with going lower is that it could potentially encourage people to submit fake runs.
I think you might be misunderstanding what a sub game is. Its for pieces of games that have speedrunning interest and cant be layed out well on the main boards, but not enough impact to be a full new game on the site or (i believe) ROM hacks.
I guarantee that wont be allowed because the king boo fight can take a different amount of time depending on what happens in it. Im not sure what the rules for video/splits/etc. are but that definitely wont be allowed.

There has to be a balance of trusting people and having rules. Imo video should be required at sub 3:30 or sub 4. This will allow people to dip their toes into this game without having to find/buy a recording setup, making it easier to get into the game. And honestly, that high up in time, fake runs wont matter towards anything. Obviously people will try to get away with it but at that point it wont matter to us.
Most low% ils would be way more boring than any% ones. If you really wanna do low% and submit it, go ahead but just know that you cant get a “competitive” time.
And if you care SO much about low%, just run the full game category because it wont be added to ils.

But for real there isnt any demand and it seems kinda arbitrary so they most likely wont be added. You can run and submit with that restriction if you would like, though!
If you need a file with max lives and max powerups, id download the max% file in recourses. Probably the quickest and easiest way.
IGT is the best way to time ILs. Nsmbw has RTA ILs and nobody likes it. And ILs arent the main grabbing point of this speedgame so it doesnt really matter that much anyways imo.
Dude this thread is from January of 2018. There is no reason to respond to really old threads like this. Also, the current wr is not a good one to learn from due to all the tiny optimizations and difficult things like 556 and bombless.
Next year’s any% tournament will be ran way differently (and better) than this year’s. Sub 30 will be a requirement (either that or a run with a video), there will be much stricter deadlines, only official consoles will be allowed, and i will not allow everyone who submits to participate. Im honestly considering calling this one off because it has takes sooo long.
Nothing is concrete yet for next year’s tourney, so dont quote me on any of this as it may change.
Just gonna throw my opinion in here as well. Arbitrary categories arent accepted on official ce boards because they arent fun to run. Theyre either too specific, too similar to another category, or just plain boring. And even if someone decides to run an arbitrary category, its likely that they wont do another run.
