Hello there o/

To answer your question, you should go frame by frame when Mario is touching the axe. There is literally 1 frame where ALL THE SPRITES disappear (Mario, Bowser and the axe itself)

And that's gonna be the final frame of your run.

Hope this helps.

Happy new year! :)

Hello! o/

Rules? Yeah, you can check them on the Leaderboard page, next to the "Submit run" button. There are some emulators that aren't allowed for speedrunning, because they may provide unfair advantages over original hardware.

Settings? Yes, there are a few. Make sure you DISABLE "Allow more than 8 sprites for scanlines/No sprite limit" so you don't skip the lag a normal console would suffer under certain circumstances. Also yeah, make sure you don't use Vsync. Don't use any kind of turbo inputs. I could recommend you using an emulator that has Input Display like FCEUX 2.2.3, so every input you execute is visible on your videos, which is useful when your runs get verified, but that's not mandatory. Some people use cameras pointing at the keyboard/controller to also show the buttons they press.

I think that's all you need.

Good luck in your runs! :>

I dislike the idea of waiting 16 seconds, but using a save state to start a run doesn't feel natural for me, is awkward, cuts the continuity of the run itself, and like Neural said, is something the original hardware doesn't include. I run the game on its original cart, and I'm not bragging about it or looking to get credits for that, but that's commonly referred as the "optimal way" in many game leaderboards to do runs, and this new rule would exclude people that run the game this way. That may sound greedy, but even if you guys decide to change this, I'm not gonna use it personally.

I imagine the WR runs that were done on emu, showing "State 0 Loaded" after every unsuccessful run, and I say to myself "Hmmm... no".

Also, I think a lot has been achieved in this game with the rules we're actually using, and is "a bit late" to change them now.

Heyo Marikh! o/

Thank you for the congrats and the good luck ♥ Very kind of you!

And holy cow this is really useful! Thank you again for this very, VERY detailed answer, I'll try to give this tutorial the best possible use, and try to go for a low 2:33/2:32! I'm used to press no directional buttons at all for the glitch, but since my setup was really bad most of the time, I'm not able to tell if that's good or not (for me at least), so I'll be going for the D+R strat after I learn those swims.

I greatly appreciate these tips and the effort you put into it! Infinite thanks!

Best of lucks to you as well!

Hello everyone o/

I'm writing to you guys to ask you about some visual cues or swimming patterns to get a good Full Flagpole Glitch on the water level -1.

My last PB got it, but I slowed down for a bit until the timer hit 232. Now to improve that, I want to do it on 234 and I'm looking to do the correct swims, to land as close as possible to the pixel required to do the FPG.

I'm having a hard time looking for a strat myself. I think I know where to do the swim for the glitch, but I don't have a good setup to land there, and do a fast swim to avoid fireworks :(

Any ideas, tips, guides would be really appreciated.

Have a good one! Good luck :)

Hey Bebert! Happy you decided to go for Minus World Ending attempts. For the glitch to work, make sure you're playing the JAPANESE version of Super Mario Bros. That trick doesn't work on the (U) version of the game. If you do that there, you will be taken to an endless water level.

Best of lucks!

Hey guys!

I'm totally new to this game and I'm planning to learn it as soon as I can, for future speedrun attempts. The thing is, I only own a Gameboy Advance SP where I can play it. No Gamecube/Gameboy player nor Super Gameboy :( , as they're hard to find here in Chile.

My question is: If I use a (good quality) camera pointing at my GBA to stream attempts, making sure both video and audio quality are decent enough; is it allowed?

I'm trying to avoid emulator as much as I can and try to stick with consoles, but I understand if you guys prefer that.

Thanks in advance and good luck everyone :>

If you're talking about the glitch that allows Sonic to move faster, that's already being used for a while, to do an full level screen warp in that exact same level :)
