Watching rom's WR, it looks like he just accesses the save room four times and then leaves, but that doesn't seem to work for me.

What's the trick here? Does the old Heart Refresh trick still work?

JapanLazarus_DS5 years ago

Is aim assist allowed in runs? And if so, is it even helpful?

I ask because I've seen some people's PBs and it felt to me like part of the movement was... artificial? Like different from when I've seen some people playing live.

I looked around, and the only thing I could find was someone asking how to disable it. The rules don't mention anything. And one of the guide videos posted, you can see in the options that the dude has it on.

If it is legal, does it actually feel helpful? Like, would it help me get stuns on zombies/ivys?

I came here to check and see if anyone had made any progress on RNG seeds for console, and my run (and any other emulator run) seems to have been removed with no explanation.

What gives?

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Would you care to share your findings with us? It might help someone else crack this nonsense.

And yeah, I realized that there was a big difference in RNG between emulator and console. I specifically bought an Everdrive so I could do runs on console (I'm in Japan, where the game was never released, so that was my only option) and then found that my methods for getting optimal RNG weren't working anymore. So I haven't done any runs since, and it's sad. The game is really fun, and I'd love to keep doing it. But going for a competitive time means needing to somehow manipulate the RNG.

Okay, so I've been doing the same thing. I can get into the wall occasionally, and I even get it so that Strider is crouching (which seems to be the standard "I'm gonna zip!" pose).

But what are you supposed to do after that? I'm hitting Left + Start to clip into the wall, but is there anything I'm supposed to hit after? I've tried hitting Left and it just pulls me out of the wall. But hitting nothing just pushes me out too.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

I'd say it's definitely a good idea to have ms verification for the top spots just because of how short a run Strider is. But definitely don't require it for anything that isn't one of the top positions.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Longneckturtle: That is SO much better. Thank you so much for making that. I feel like I'll be able to figure it out now, at least knowing what buttons I'll have to hit when and where.

Can one of the admins of this board put that set of videos in the resources section? That seems like it would be really useful for newcomers to the run.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

I like how you copied the explanation from the comments of the video that I literally just said wasn't enough explanation. XD

I appreciate the effort, but I still don't get how you can wall jump there. I can do the one in the tutorial that Blackman taught Jimmy. But that wall it just... doesn't seem to work the same.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

In the better runs, they do a jump into the wall to clip down, instead of getting shot by that soldier.

I want to learn that. In Guides there's a video on it, but the explanation doesn't really do it for me. I try to wall jump off there and it doesn't really do anything.

What is it that you have to do to clip there?

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Two questions:

  1. Is there any evidence behind the claim about flash carts? As someone who just got one, I'm curious about the differences and would like to learn about it, if nothing else to try to keep my future attempts for games as legit as possible.

  2. Is the Japanese version faster? Is it allowed?

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

zaxdar: When I was practicing it, I used Strider's sprite as a visual cue. You have to hit select before he puts his knee down, and when you get out of the menu the knee should still be up. You have to jump before the knee goes down.

Also, as baldnate said: don't mash jump. Not only do you run the risk of being pushed back in-bounds, but I found that mashing to get OUT of bounds never worked for me.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago
  • No RNG Manipulation at Title Screen
  • No Ledge Clip Jumps
  • No killing steam rollers with Select.
  • No killing MechaTurtle from the safe spot.
  • No ceiling glitches.
  • No Weapon Swap Glitch (even if it would be detrimental to you).
  • No Mousser Glitch (getting the mouth to be permanently open by hitting Start).
  • No manipulating Shredder so he can't hit you (killing him with scrolls, and thus making him unable to hit you, is okay?)

No one seemed against Damage Boosting. And despawning enemies is a common thing in NES games and I don't see that personally as a glitch.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Several games have Glitchless categories. I see no reason why this one can't have it if there are people interested in running it. And there are.

So it seems like enough people want the category. And Tarot showed how to do it. Are we gonna have Any% Glitchless any time soon?

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

So essentially, allow skill-based tricks, but not outright glitches that seem to go outside of how the game was intended as programmed.

Seems good to me. How do we get the category started?

Is this going to become a thing? I'm potentially interested in doing Any% Glitchless runs as well.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Sorry for the late reply.

As far as I know, cabin spawns are determined by the RNG you get in the very beginning.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

Woods paths, I honestly don't know.

As for your second question, yeah. I never seem to encounter him there either. He always seems to somehow skip straight to the next cabin.

The Laura thing is if you get the optimal RNG, where Mark starts on the upper right hand of the lake circle and Jason spawns in the upper right hand of the map. Day 1, you would use Mark to get the torch and go kill Jason. Day 2, you start as Mark, go through the woods to the top part of the map, and go to the cabin in the upper left hand of the map. That's where you give the torch to Laura and kill Jason.

Why? Because Laura spawns close to the cave area for Day 3, which is where Jason will be heading. Makes it take less time getting to him to kill him on Day 3.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

See, I got it dozens of times on emulator. Probably more than 100 times, actually.

But I haven't been able to get it on console once. So it makes me think maybe the cue is different.

JapanLazarus_DS6 years ago

When I was doing runs on emulator, someone told me that the visual cue for getting Mark in the upper right cabin on the lake was just as soon as you see pink after the knife hits the mask on the title screen.

That worked, and it wasn't perfect, but I'd still get it frequently enough to attempt runs.

I ordered an Everdrive so I could play on console and chase WR (since I'm in Japan, and this is the only option to play on Famicom outside of a converter) and the visual cue appears to be different. None of the RNG I'm used to seeing is showing up and I haven't gotten the optimal RNG a single time. It's driving me nuts.

Is there any footage out there showing exactly what you're looking for on console?
