Honestly, I can get behind this.
Even normally, Downhill is an event that goes by very quickly compared to most in the game, clocking in at a little over 20 seconds on average. Getting good at it requires quick thinking and knowing when to use mushrooms.
But when glitches are introduced, which aren't even too consistent to begin with, the intensity is dialed up to 11, needing lightning fast reaction times which if missed could end a run. And if an input is missed, you have little to no time to react and perform a backup strat to save yourself.
Obviously, newer players may be discouraged to go for the record if they don't feel confident in going for brick skips, which with how optimised the record is now, are pretty much mandatory if you want a shot at it.
This is a brilliant addition. This may help bring more competition to the game, which is a nice thing to see. The Mario & Sonic speedrunning community is bigger than it ever has been, and this will help to further expand it.
Sorry for a sort of late response, I had to do it again, because I wasn't considering that factor at the time. I was just focusing on what would happen when maxing out the timer and using speed up to make it faster.
Anyway, I did it again legitimately this time. I left it for just over 9 minutes, and nothing happened, the timer stayed 29:59.999.
A glitch in Alpine Skiing, eh? I'm interested. Mind sharing with us?
And to answer your question, I tested it on Biathlon using an emulator, but on that event, the in-game time only goes up to 29:59.999, and stayed that way.
Apparently the Supersonic Downhill record had to be resubmitted due to it being deleted from the leaderboard unexpectedly. Upon further investigation, I've also noticed that obsoleted runs are not showing correctly, such as them being shoved to the bottom of the leaderboard, and obsoleted times not being displayed. Anyone else notice this, or is it just me?
Alright I had a go at trying to deliberately lose in Lucky Spin. I still won by 60 points, thanks mostly to the fact I got a lucky +50 on the first spin.
Yeah so we can probably rule out Bingo because of how much luck is required and how it could either go on for ages or it could be done very quickly, both of which is pretty boring.
I got one on Bingo Bash where I got four in a row and only needed Knuckles, so potentially you may not need to play a single event. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aN-S_6GT5hBbvOxtrILDgpwZ_V5eNcKf/view?usp=drivesdk
I'm pretty sure if you pick Lucky Spin or Wild Card, you could potentially manipulate the slot that chooses events, to get the one that you want with precise timing.
As for the handicap, I was thinking either no handicaps whatsoever, or that if you do give yourself a handicap, you have to do the same to the COMs (I.e If you give yourself 1 crossed out square in Bingo Bash, you have to do the same to your opponents.) so that there would be a level playing field.
If there was a category where you have to play one round of any of the "Party Games" modes within the game (Bingo Bash, Lucky Spin or Wild Card), would anyone actually be interested in doing any runs for it?
I assume so, because one of my obsolete Snowboard Cross runs was done in a mission and was accepted.
I was aware of that one as well. I don't really think it's as beneficial as the second though because: A: Going left is slower than taking the jump and B: Even if you do take the jump (You can do it on the other side as well), you'd have to take it slower than usual and drift as tightly as possible, otherwise you'd miss the guardrail.
I think a 14 second or 15 second time is out of our reach, but a 16 might barely be possible.
Exactly. Besides, even if it still works, the Nintendo WFC configuration isn't compatible with WPA or WPA2 security, so it wouldn't even be possible for some to access the in-game leaderboards, regardless of if they put the correct DNS.
This might be a new strat, but I'm not sure if it is faster. I was messing around, then I found that, you can go THROUGH a block without losing your barrier or momentum if you're fast enough. Only problem is you need to be going at least 360km/h for this to work, so you'd have to keep hold of your mushrooms. Doing this instead also seems to make you go down the vertical wall significantly faster. Unfortunately not guaranteed every time.

I'll firstly mention that there's already guides up for Snowboard and Blazing Bobsleigh, so make sure to check those out. I can give you advice for skating events if you want though. Let me just go post another guide.
