I've found that with 1.0.4.0., I need to have V-sync turned on if I want to stand a chance with the spamming of [Space] at the very end to climb into the helicopter. If your FPS is still too high, even with maxed settings, you need to do this as well. You'll likely find your FPS is overall higher on 1.0.4.0.

Mission: Street Sweeper

Strat 1: Drive into the mission marker, take the same car to the targets. Time from being able to move to when you'd fire the first shot into the driver: 23 seconds (if using a police cruiser)

Strat 2: Take a waiting cab to the targets, get out and shoot the driver, continue with the rest. Time from being able to move to when you'd fire the first shot into the driver: 23 seconds (even when the cab has parked further down the street)

(these times come from two videos which showed great execution of both strategies)

I had near perfect execution using this strategy and it ended up taking 1:27 between hitting the marker near the bridge, all the way up to when the mission passes. I had it recorded, but the video somehow became corrupted. I then timed a variation of the strategy we've been using and it took 1:30 between the same two points. For reference, in your video you hit the marker at 0:33 and mission passed occurred at 2:02, so 1:29.

I used the Taxi (Merit) with this new strat: Top speed: 267 km/h Acc: 10.7 seconds RWD

The Police Patrol: Top speed: 268 km/h Acc: 6.8 seconds 4WD

My opinion, it's not worth it to go for this strategy. Sure, it's likely you can get a taxi (merit) sometime before this mission and hang on to it from mission to mission, but I've still had it fail to go up the stairs even when I seemingly did exactly what I did other times when I made it up. It's also not the easiest thing in the world to hit all three guys in the train before you reach the point on the tracks where you're too low to hit everyone. I failed about 6 times before the first time getting it and even then I felt like I got lucky. You're definitely not in any better of a position to find a cab after completing this mission using this strat. A great cab spawn will still leave you waiting at the next mission marker (in my video, I didn't block the call so it took longer to come in) for a little bit for Call and Collect's text.

Here's the video of the 1:30 from marker to mission pass:

Do any of the other GTAs have a seemingly random speed glitch like this?

United StatesKyle9 years ago

Ever since I began speedrunning this, I've occasionally noticed that a saved game will load in and everything non audio related will move at a faster speed than normal. It's very easy to detect if you've seen the game move at normal speed a handful of times. You might have heard me say in the past during a stream that this was happening and I was going to have to restart the game to fix it. It's an extremely rare occurrence as it's probably only happened no more than 10 times since May/June 2014. It continues after cutscenes, mission loads, saves, etc. The only way to get it to stop is to restart the game. I have no idea what causes it, but if someone could figure out how to get it to happen every time you start up the game (it would have to be possible on a fresh install with absolutely no previous game files on the computer because it might require a certain save's spawn location combined with specific inputs upon spawning or something) then it would probably be allowed in runs.

Here's an example of it in action (the game's running at about 1.126x speed):

Edit: This isn't "never-fail" because I've had it fail. It might have to do with the type of vehicle you're in and/or how long it takes you to get from the police vehicle to another vehicle and/or the type of vigilante mission you choose and/or the length of the vigilante timer. I've noticed sometimes the red text doesn't appear at the bottom of the screen when the countdown ends. Maybe you can only bring up the phone if this text appears. IDK, I'll have to test more.

The never-fail method to bring out the phone immediately after triggering the date is as follows (combined with the faster setup):

Start a vigilante mission -> get out of the police vehicle -> get into a non police vehicle -> sit where the date marker will be -> as you wait for the countdown to finish, make sure your last input was NOT mouse related (mouse movement, clicking, etc.) -> bring out the phone as soon as the date triggers (I use the UP arrow key to bring up the phone and forward slash ( / ) to select options on the phone -> select Little Jacob's "Job" -> hang up as soon as dialogue begins with him, before your date enters the vehicle (if you need to, you can pull the vehicle forward or back as she walks to the vehicle to make her take longer) -> when the job triggers, hit Enter to cancel the date cutscene -> cancel the job through the phone

Completions & fails:

(Puerto Rican Connection doesn't actually fail due to the date fail. I fail in the video because the train gets too far away. If you continue following the train, the mission will pass when it pulls up to station where the guys would normally get off.)

Date fail leads to "Street Sweeper" completing (a storyline mission):

An example of the enemies spawning in:

I'm starting to think that this glitch will only work on missions which end with a group of people or objects needing killed, with no other triggers, objectives, or stages after/as you destroy this final group. A mission like "Luck of the Irish", which you can see below, has stages during the final showdown. I'm guessing it failed because after the enemies were wiped out, Packie's attacker (the guy who spawns and fights Packie) spawned in and killed him.

Tried this again, this time on the roof with Kate, still crashed:

United StatesKyle10 years ago

When the blips were still labeled "Destination", the date fail caused the mission to fail. When the blips' title changed to "Enemy", aka the enemies spawn in after hitting a trigger, the date fail caused the mission to complete.

Fail:

Complete:

Vigilante blips are immediately titled "Enemy". I'm really starting to think this glitch can only work if the blips show this title. I've also noticed the only missions this glitch has ever been proven to work on are the ones which don't increment the "Missions attempted/Missions passed" stat by 1.

Here's the glitch crashing Late Checkout. If you fail the date just after getting out of this mission's opening cutscene, you'll get the same result that you see in one of the other videos when I do the same thing after starting up a Faustin mission.

I tested what would happen if I failed this random encounter mission just after starting it. The result was the random encounter mission seemed to just end. I also tested what would happen if I shot into the air once I got to the alley way where the enemies are. The result was exactly what happens in the video below, except the game crashed when the fade-out occurs. Lastly, I tested what would happen if I shot an enemy, and this video shows it.

United StatesKyle10 years ago

Shows what happens when you perform the same glitch at the end of the date and select "Try your luck". I'm not in control after he jumps out of the car, but I regain control after he teleports.

This video shows that you can take/make calls while a mission is active. The only downside is it looks like you'd only be able to take calls during the first mission you activate after setting this up and then would have to start over for the next missions. You want to change the key you use to select in the phone to something which won't skip date cutscenes. Sometimes it seems like the phone won't come up until the police computer has been brought up. This video also shows one of possibly many results from getting a mission triggering phonecall while another mission is already running. I thought it would crash when the call ended, but it didn't. You can see what happens when Hostile Negotiation completes.

This video shows some initial testing.

Set up a date with Michelle, start a vigilante mission, sit where the date marker will be, press E to access the police computer when the cutscene begins, start a vigilante mission, shoot your gun, vigilante mission complete.

If you instead do this -> Set up a date with Michelle, start a vigilante mission, sit where the date marker will be, press E to access the police computer when the cutscene begins, start a vigilante mission, either let the vigilante mission timer run out OR pass it WITHOUT firing a weapon ----->

-> at this point you'd still have the date active and also be able to start any other missions. I haven't had any success instantly completing regular mission in the same way the vigilante mission completed.

In the same way you can bring up the police computer during that cutscene, you can also bring up your phone.

This find will hopefully lead to being able to take calls during missions OR an easy way to instantly complete missions (hopefully at least the longest of missions). Having two regular missions running at the same time still crashes the game. I started Roman's taxi job during a Faustin mission and it crashed the game. Testing with the trainer has shown that a strangers and freaks mission (blue person icons on the map) can be running during a story mission.

Need to test missions started through the phone (start a mission like Hostile Negotiation during that date cutscene).

MAJOR FIND. more to come.

To mods that approve anything which isn't using an in-game timer: If a run includes the milliseconds, don't include them, change them to 000. The milliseconds feature was added for ILs which use the in-game timer. If you know the claimed time can't be accurate to the millisecond due to how it was timed, e.g., external timer stopped manually, then just ignore the milliseconds.

Edit: Forgot to uncheck "Automatically verify run" after making an edit to the milliseconds. Accidentally verified darkviper88's run by doing this. Someone who knows the long runs may want to look it over, if it matters. I normally wouldn't be verifying the longer runs.

Shoot the closest store window from the taxi. When Niko gets out, attempt to keep him from closing the door to trigger the cutscene faster. If you miss the shot, when you get out, shoot from that spot. Wait until the cutscene changes to the close up on the china shop owner's face, then skip (if you skip any earlier, Niko won't teleport to the front of the shop and you'll have to wait for him to slowly walk to the front). Run back to the taxi and pick the Russian clothing store as your destination.

Thought I had failed because the helicopter didn't go down. I knew I had hit one of the two guys, but it seemed like it did nothing, then the mission fail never came so I got back in and followed. I've never seen this happen before. You can see legs sticking out of the bottom of the helicopter after passing the mission. It's a Little Jacob character model holding a rocket launcher which attempts to walk when you land, but it's stuck in the heli. You can kill him and the rocket launcher stays attached to the model (doesn't drop RPG ammo). It took 2:28 from the moment I get into the helicopter to the moment the mission passes (not including the time I spent standing around). In my PB, the normal way took 2:27. Still trying to find a way to hit it with a rocket after coming out from under the bridge. Not even sure what would happen.

What happens here isn't in this all possibilities video. You can see what should have happened at 3:00 if I hadn't killed the pilot, I guess.

There's more, I knew it'd be at that spot from a prior finding (watching MisterPost):
