thread: KILLRUN
AustraliaKlooger1 year ago

I was thinking of doing a run for every killrun level in one go, so all 4 map packs in a row, would probably take about 22 minutes. Curious if anyone thinks it would be a good idea to add this to the boards? Could probably be done for the jumper maps too for consistency.

I don't follow the game anymore, and don't know if the devs plan to add more map packs in the future, but if so that could obsolete any categories like this, and might make them a bad idea.

SEUM is a great game, really high level competition for short maps, a good way to hone your perfectionism :)

This post should probably have been made earlier, but recently the rules were changed to not allow fps above 250, and along with this an fps counter must always be visible to prove this. It was done to improve fairness among runners since high fps would speed up slow motion sequences, effectively making certain parts of the game pay to win. Any old runs breaking this rule were re-timed.

So yeah, hopefully everyone (on pc) is now aware that they need a frame counter up for the duration of any runs they submit.

No this wouldn't be allowed for campaign runs. However there may be some boards added either here or on category extensions for the spec ops levels some time in the future.

If you have pirated the game it will not work, it only works with the steam version.

I don't want to start any drama by listing real names so I'll just refer to them as runner #1 and runner #2.

So runner #1 gets wr in a game, runner #2 thinks he sees an issue with the gameplay and reports him, this results in a site ban for runner #1. The issue being that this was a false accusation (to my knowledge) fueled by runner #2s desire to hold wr on this game, and not backed by any real evidence. (The claim is that the games are not running at the same speed while both of them are playing on different n64 emulators, and personally the footage looks completely identical.)

Seemingly support tickets are being ignored, runner #2 has a much larger fanbase so opinions tend to default be on their side. Runner #1s friends came asking for help and I believe their story but I'm not really sure what to do about it.

I have been a beta tester speedrunner for a couple games and yeah, it really depends what you're going for. Are you aiming to make it like a time trial game where people compete on the same levels for faster times, or are you just making a game that you hope people will start playing all the way through with their own livesplit timers and etc.

The most important thing in any of these scenarios is to pay attention to any elements of the game that the speedrunner will witness repeatedly and try to cut down on the dead time, startup splash screens, menu delays, mid level cutscenes, anything like that. A good example would be for a time trial sort of game where you start the level off with a 3 second countdown, you might at first think this is fine, but in reality 3 seconds is a long time for a speedrunner who is resetting the level constantly, and it would get quite tiring.

So there are a couple twitch extensions out there that grab info from your src profile and display it on your twitch page, but they seem to run into constant errors for me or anyone I ask for help with the issue. Yet I have seen other streamers have these functional for a long time now. So do they not work anymore, or am I doing something wrong? I really have no idea.

These are the two extensions I am talking about, the lower one seems completely incapable of fetching data for any src profile I give it, and the top one can fetch that data, but when I click the save button it just says an unexpected error occured.

I knew vanguard wasn't going to be good, when I bought it it matched my expectations almost exactly. I then spent 2 weeks speedrunning it and haven't touched it since. I wouldn't say I dislike it though, I just enjoy speedrunning cod games. As for people who buy it for the multiplayer, idk lol.

BOCW does not have an autosplitter, you will have to start and split the timer manually. Since these games are tied into warzone, every time warzone gets an update it breaks any autosplitter made for them, so it's impossible to have a working one for the forseeable future.

@JustRetroAndy If you want an actual discussion about this then feel free to join the discord server and talk about it rather than cluttering up the forums here with it. The issue is though it seems like you are completely set in your opinion and no amount of evidence or clear explanation is going to help you, so this seems completely pointless.

Let me just say it like this, one random person isn't going to change the rules of a game just by complaining loud enough, especially with a point as poor as yours, and even more especially when no one here agrees with you, so what are you even really trying to achieve.

@JustRetroAndy Implying that a runner of the NG category wouldn't be using cheat codes because they don't know them is a little weird. It's like you think every NG run should be done completely blind with no knowledge of the game at all, but that's not how it works, every speedrunner practices things over and over, and knows all kinds of things before starting their fresh run, knowing what cheat codes are is just another part of that imo.

And if you want to argue about them not being used because they are "cheats" well, that's what the glitchless category is for.

The only really valid point that can be discussed here imo is that the cheat code is entered before the timer starts, which probably shouldn't be done, anything that has any effect on the run should be done after the timer is started.

I'm sure some people like the idea of comments on runs, but adding a feature like that without any options to disable or even properly remove comments seems incredibly short sighted, as said before most runs are uploaded on youtube and already have their comment sections there, and we all know how much of a mess youtube comments are already, and with no effective moderation src comments would surely end up even worse.

Some of the other stuff is nice, I'm personally a fan of all the random statistics, I find it quite interesting, but again with no options to show/hide any of this stuff it can come across very stalkerish to a lot of people.

I think the main gripe here is that we want a little customization, you can't please everyone with a single solution, so allow us to toggle different settings around to how we personally like it.

Imagine speedrunning in 2010, who would do such a thing.

Sorry about that, a wii category has been added, you can submit any runs you do there, it's under misc.

In order to try and make competition on this game as fair as possible we have made a few rule changes, the main one being maximum allowed frame rate of 250fps. This also comes with the caveat that pc runners will now need to display their frame rate using the console command "cg_drawfps 1" which will show it in the top right corner of the game. This applies to individual levels as well.

All high ranking runs gaining an advantage from high frame rates have been re-timed as if they were ran at the cap of 250.

Somewhat related to this, game over as an IL is going to be removed because it is entirely autoscroller, and only affected by differing fps values.

FOV limits have also been set, no higher than 120 and no lower than 50.

If you want to individualize your run with custom skins, then altering the glove & shirt skins are fine, but nothing else.

So it seems that an update to the game recently broke the asl connected with livesplit, but there is one here that should work: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p2drvbqqttwkgw0/mw2rnew.asl?dl=0

If for some reason you run into issues with that, there is a simple load remover that you can try here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3krfj48yq1y3bsx/mw2r.asl?dl=0

Any runs done on pc should be timed with these.
