@ontwoplanks

Yeah I realised this after I made the post lol. So it's at the arena and free. Do you know if there's a changing room attached or anything with plug sockets for electronics?

Oh right so it's in the blue area not the red? Inferno said it was the field opposite the arena in the red so unless he's going by previous experiences it must've changed. That sucks. I much prefer Inferno's field :(

Hey

Here's an update from us:

Joshimuz and I are going and we will be getting a lift from the lovely Ashcash147 so travel is sorted for us. Because of this we will try and bring what we can depending on what can fit in Ash's car.

I was just wondering about a few things though. I want to know how the showers work for those camping. Where are they? Are they free? Are they available at all times? Are there private dressing rooms with plug sockets? I want to know if I can blowdry and/or straighten my hair.

I was looking on the Insomnia website at the FAQs and came across this: https://support.multiplay.co.uk/support/solutions/articles/1000073642-where-is-the-campsite-and-what-are-the-facilities-

I thought we were in the field right next to the Arena but according to this FAQ page its actually down the road in a different field? Or are both of these fields available and we do have the field next to the arena? Here's a print screen of what I mean:

http://i.imgur.com/gOtQrbn.jpg

Red: field I thought we were in Blue: the one shown/mentioned in the FAQ

Can someone clear this up for me along with answers about showers and plug sockets for personal use?

Thanks :D
Camping is £15 for the weekend, but I think you need at least a full weekend ticket to have access to it . Camping is available for everyone on Sunday night, but i'm not sure how it works for Thursday (I believe the people who pay for early arrival have access but normal tickets don't, but I could be wrong) . There are forums on the website where you might be able to find more definitive answers.
Is that per person I'm guessing? Well it seems they won't be able to stay with us then. I'll have to tell them. It'll be great if we can come on Thursday. I can't find the forums.
@Kitty; Flicky's still waiting on Insomnia to reply about if we can access the venue and camping on Thursday night or Friday Morning so hold by your bed and there'll be an answer in the next couple of days.
Ohhh. Fair enough. They're a bit slow aren't they? It's Multiplay right? They're actually in the next city to me about half hour away which is cool. I'd love to work for them. If there's no answers by Friday I'll probably send an email myself as I really need to know especially now his parents are involved and they need to know.

So it looks like Josh and I might definitely be going as his parents have offered to drive us there (!). It's such a big thing but so nice of them. However I REALLY need to know the exact days. So...

The event itself is from Friday - Sunday? We can leave either Sunday or Monday? Does this mean there's camping available Sunday night? Also does this mean there's camping on Thursday night for early arrivals? As I need to work out if we leave Thursday afternoon or Friday morning so we don't miss anything. If Friday is mainly going to be a set up and meet day then we'll probably leave Friday morning unless his parents want to leave Thursday as I think they're going to look into going somewhere for the weekend too. I just need to tell them what days etc. Sorry for repeatedly asking this, I just need confirmation. If no one fully knows then is there someone at Insomnia I can ask? :)

Also his mum just asked if they can share our tent but we realised they can't stay for free right? I honestly don't know what their plan is so I'll find out. But for now, they can't, right? If they want to then they'd have to pay for camping? How much is that?
Kitty, I'm in Milton Keynes, about an hour north of London so I'd have to make a big detour to get you and josh, and I'm trying to spend very little money right now so I wouldn't want to hire a minibus, sorry.

@Kitty - sorry, the detour to you would take longer and cost more money than I'd save.
Yeah that's fine, I don't expect you to have to come down then up or take detours. I don't know where anyone is from so I was just asking. It was more in case someone was from near me or Southampton or Bournemouth or Brighton etc and could just come along the coast then go up but it's fine :) I've looked into coaches and it should be fine, although its booked out for the arena so we have to get off in the middle of Coventry and get a taxi I guess. Just trying to find a suitable large case to transport Josh's PC in safely.
Friday - Arrival day. I'm sure that people setting up will need to be there earlier while the rest of you can come in later. I'm waiting on good times for this. We will probably stream this day. Sat/Sun - full days of streaming and running the speedrun section. Monday - clearout day.
I know you said this isn't final times or they might change etc but going on the basis of these above, does this mean we can't arrive on the Thursday and camp that night ready for Friday? As we'll be travelling for 6 hours. What time will things start on Friday? Or is it solely arrival and set up day and Saturday-Sunday is for fun and speedruns? I'm guessing we can camp on the Sunday night and leave Monday? I know everything is estimates at the moment which is fine but I just want an idea of when we'll travel and costs :)

We have a 24 inch Acer monitor and 24 inch Samsung monitor we can try a bring. Josh also has a dazzle, a ton of cables and I think splitters? I'm not sure I'll have to ask.

Out of curiousity geurge, where are you? I don't know if you've seen my previous posts but I'm wondering if its possible for someone who drives and is in the south to hire a minibus for the weekend and a bunch of us can join and we'd all split? No worries if not as National Express is a back up for us but could be a pain, we'll see.

Unknown
Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago

Hmm okay.. well we'll see what we can do. Josh uses a 32 inch LG TV and 24 inch Acer monitor while I have a 24 inch Samsung. I doubt we can bring all but again if we can get a minibus maybe we could but neither of us drive so I'm trying to find someone else along the coast somewhere who can. Then we'll bring whatever we can to help out. :)

Ohhh I see it! I tried to read but couldn't make out some of the words. My bad! I did say I thought I was stupid. That's cool. Is it far from entrances or toilets?

Yeah it's pretty good. He has a 970 4GB graphics card, i7-4790k processor, 16GB ram, 1TB HDD and 250SSD (I think). I'm sure he won't mind but I'll ask anyway plus this depends if we can get up there haha. If we can then we'll need to find a large hard suitcase to transport his PC in as it's huge :P Oh, will monitors be provided at all? Not sure if we will be able to bring any of ours unless my idea of someone driving a minibus happens as there might be space on there.

Unknown
Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago

Oh okay so the BYOC is a dedicated seating area which is different to the area you guys have? So if he brings his PC and sets it up somewhere in the speedrun area corner then he won't have to pay? Am I understanding correctly? Sorry if I'm not! I'm beginning to think I'm stupid tbh as I don't understand that picture, where exactly is it we'll be? Top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right or all of them?

Unknown
Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago
It's really really important as many of us as possible bring own TVs, gaming computers and consoles as possible so that a practice/casual/chill/whatever area area can happen. There's ¤nothing¤ provided for us other than tables, chairs, internet and power. We need to make our own magic happen :D
Yeah I understand. As I said Josh wants to bring his PC since its a lan event (and our first one) so I'm sure he won't mind if it gets used in the area etc its just whether he'll need to pay to bring or use it there, or if it's free? If I'm making any sense lol.

Unknown
Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago
@Kittymuz Camping is available for the entire event including the early arrival for byoc tickets, which means that you can use it from Thursday to Monday. Whether you can enter the event on Thursday/Monday depends on what type of ticket you're getting (I would assume byoc based on the scheduled times)
Thanks for the info Inferno. Have you been before? So you can definitely arrive on the Thursday and camp that night? We don't mind about not getting in or doing anything since the event itself doesn't start until Friday but since we have 5 or 6 hours of travelling it'll mean missing around a third or half of a day on both Friday and Sunday if we can't stay the extra nights.

I'm confused about tickets and prices. Flicky says its free yet there's tickets on the website. Do we still have to buy tickets for Insomnia itself and it's the speedrun area that's free or do we get free overall entry if we're attending the speedrun area. Joshimuz wants to bring his PC but would he need to buy a special ticket for that such as the BYOC thing? Or can he set it up in the speedrun area for free?

Sorry for all the questions but we've never been and I'm a bit OCD on organising even if its 6 weeks or so away lol. I just want confirmation on whether we need to pay for anything AT ALL and if camping is available on Thursday and Sunday night or strictly Friday and Saturday night. Also just let me know if I can help whether organising, promoting, tech (although I'm not that techy but I'd love to watch and learn) or simply getting people drinks and stuff. :)

Sorry to keep posting but I'm wondering if there's anyone down along the coast who's planning on going and drives? As maybe we can hire a minibus for the weekend and someone can drive it? We'd all chip in and stuff? Just an idea. :)

Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago

A question I have is when does Insomnia "open" or start? Since we have to come up from Portsmouth its an approx 5 hour journey and we're not going to want to miss things. So if it starts or opens or whatever anytime between 12-4pm on Friday then we should be okay leaving in the morning but if its more like 8am-12pm then we'll consider coming up on Thursday. Although this raises another question and that is when is the camping available? Is it just Friday and Saturday night? Since the event itself is Friday - Sunday or can we camp on Thursday night and stay Sunday night leaving on Monday? If this makes any sense?

I'm just looking into travel and stuff at the moment and need to consider all the possible times and costs etc so I need to look into both times for travelling Friday and coming back Sunday or travelling Thursday and coming back Monday.

Yeah indeed! It'll be great if I can get EGGS to happen one day. I just don't have the experience or knowledge. I'm up for any event in the UK, we need some! :)

Unknown
Hampshire, EnglandKitteamuz8 years ago

Yay! That's great! What kind of things will you need help with? Will we need to get passes or wristbands for the event and camping etc?

What other information do you need or want? I'll send a PM with everything.

Ohhhhh! I was looking at the Non-Earth version of Google Maps and there wasn't a green bit there but in Earth I see. That's very close then, much better than where I thought it might be. I'm guessing you access it via the tunnel under the train line near the car park? I also notice there's a huge Tesco as well as Pizza Hut and Burger King near by. Helpful. :P

So would I be able to attend if I'm not running anything? Would I have to pay?
I think I'm able to answer a few of those questions Kitty. The camping is in a reasonably big field where you need to bring your own tents. It is less than a minute away from the venue, so its a decent option for this time of year. There is a hotel in the arena, but it might be hard to get a room at this stage due to high demand.

I'm not aware if there are any hotels in the immediate area, but there are a few further into Coventry. I haven't had any experience with them so maybe Flicky will have a more detailed answer. Hope this helps :)
Thanks Inferno! Where is the field exactly? I just assumed it was on the actual pitch field since the arena is a football stadium by the looks of it, but I guess doing that would ruin the grass or whatever. So I'm now assuming this field is either the one North West or directly North. I have been looking at the hotel as that would be best and convenient for me but as you said it's pretty much booked out plus very expensive. I couldn't find any other hotels near the arena and wouldn't want to keep travelling there every day or whatever. :P

Hello Flicky

Joshimuz and I are interested in going to this and so I'm looking into travel now since its on the other side of the country for us. Josh will most likely run something but I don't know if I will since I'm not really into speedrunning myself, yet. Would I be allowed to attend if I'm not personally running anything?

How does the "accommodation" work? You say a camping spot? So is it a green field or something and we bring our own tents? Or are there local hotels?

Thanks Kitty

OK so I probably have a few things to say but right now all I can think of is how hosts and runners act on stream. I know we can't control their behaviour and stuff but at least tell them what they can and can't do, and give warnings. On numerous accounts certain people have caused chat to go crazy due to things they have said or basically encouraging them. This makes it very hard for us mods.

Oh also something else that I have noticed, so has many others, is that some runners end up being on their own. Either no commentators or watchers behind them, just totally on their own. This looks bad for both ESA and the runner as it's quite depressing to see and obviously a knock back for the runner who then might be moody. I'm not sure how this can be handled, maybe just if people see someone on stream with no one around then out of respect go and watch them?

If I think of anything else I'll probably do another post. There is one thing but it's just personal and probably seen as unprofessional so I'll keep it to myself.
