I just think a cheat% category would be fun, and I'd definitely run a 100 wave cheat category once I can get a capture card.

Another thing, this game runs WAY faster on emulator. I don't think the two should be compared directly, since emu has a huge advantage

Apparently, there are cheats that will give you extra lives, power-ups, and weapons. I take it these aren't allowed, right? If I decided to do a run with cheats, would it be put in its own category? There's also a cheat to select any level. Obviously, I don't expect this to be allowed.

@ChocolateTheGaming Do you think we could have some more categories?

I gotcha. And yeah, that's what I meant

All unlockables & all power-ups categories would be analogous to 100% & 25% categories, I feel

For unlocking and upgrading them. Choosing to upgrade one over the other may help you unlock the rest faster, and the skill to run long enough at a time to unlock what you want in an optimal way. Also, a power up won't show up if you don't unlock it or if you upgrade it enough to disable it, so you can use that to strategize. Sure, their spawn would be random, but it would still take a lot of skill.

As for how the points would be random, you get points for both coins and distance, so the run would just be a competition for the best RNG to get good power-ups in one game (like the current categories). Not a bad idea, but I don't think it would be as enjoyable

I agree, but even getting points would be pretty rng-based. As I posted before, getting the power-ups and unlockables would be a better fit since it's more skill & route based

I don't think so, because they're still the same game. You don't need to separate it just because it's the better version. It would be better to have separate in-game time, but that would be pretty hard to do

I can run the game just fine on PCSX2. I did rip my own copy of the game, though, and I have to use a software renderer (go to Config --> Video --> Plugin Settings... Then, under "Renderer," select one of the software options then click OK. I use "Direct3D11 (Software)").

Just keep in mind that emu runs are hidden from the leaderboard by default and any settings or hacks that speed up load times are absolutely banned, which means selecting preset 1 under Config --> Emulation Settings --> Speedhacks.

I didn't make the rules, but I agree with them. Starting from new game makes it easier for the runner to start his timer correctly, and starting from a new file makes it less complicated and more fair. There's a long cutscene in the beginning of OoT, but they start at the new file, and I think it makes sense. Besides, you're going to be playing for 1h 30m so 3 minutes isn't that big of a deal, in my opinion.

If you play on your ps2 with a mem card, you can take it out after it quicksaves before a strat. Then, whenever you want to practice it, you can put in the card, load straight to it, then take it out again

I always thought this game was fun to run apart from lasting so goddamn long, and I'm glad to have more competition! GL beating my time without getting that volcano skip, though :P I might submit the game to the Obscure Speedruns Club

I know this is a pretty old thread, and I posted on the first Temple Run forum before seeing this, but what about a category for unlocking all powerups? I think that would make more sense and be more fun. You could also have categories for all unlockables and all objectives, though that would be much easier in the first game. I, personally, would love to do runs like these, especially in the first Temple Run.

Could we have a category where you have to unlock everything from the store, starting with a fresh install of the game (without purchasing coins)? We could also have an easier & shorter category to just unlock the powerups, and a longer category to complete all the objectives. I think that these would be more fun and challenging than categories based on a distance in one run. I, personally, would like to run such categories. What do you think? Could we add such a thing?
