One thing I didn't see in the existing runs on this game is holding the B button while sailing—which speeds up the game immensely, it's really a huge timesave!

The Analogue Nt Mini Noir uses the same Genesis/Megadrive core as the Mega SG, which is allowed on, e.g., the Sonic games. I just wanted to confirm this is OK before proceeding with attempts on it for Pirates! Gold.

Only seems logical. The leaderboard looks silly with that huge drop, and also I'm assuming both CaracarnVi and NESCardinality have non-manip runs that would rank in the top 2-3 if categorised separately.
