I've noticed some new people have taken an interest in speedrunning Trespasser, but have been submitting their runs with only real time attack (RTA) timing and no in-game time (IGT).
It would be much better for the leaderboard to be based on IGT rather than RTA, as it is a PC game so loading times fluctuate immensely.
In order to track IGT for your runs you must do the following:
- Create a new Notepad file and paste in the following script:
state("tpassp6") { bool isLoading : "tpassp6.exe", 0x64B484; }
isLoading { return current.isLoading; }
Then save this as a .asl file.
-
Open Livesplit and create a new layout.
-
In the layout editor, click the + icon then select the scriptable autosplitter under the control tab.
-
Go to layout settings and click browse, then select your .asl script file using a suitable file path.
-
Save your changes and enjoy an automated IGT timer.
Notes:
If Livesplit is not correctly displaying IGT after using this script try the following solutions:
-
Ensure Livesplit is set to display IGT for your splits and timer in both the timer, and layout settings.
-
Ensure the script uses the correct executable name. For example the script shown here uses the "tpassp6" executable as it is intended to be run on this patch.
Hope this was helpful and enjoy Trespasser!
The person that did the runs didn't want them linked to their name. The reason for this is because they have a run that was faster IGT but slower RTA, because of the cutscene skips between levels. Originally they didn't want their faster RTA time on the leaderboard at all, but agreed for it to be added as long as it wasn't attached to their name. Since then they agreed to let me add the videos of their run.
Claw grip is never a good idea unless you're playing on Xbox. You skip 1 frame at a time way less consistently, and it can often lead to hand pain or wrist problems. Also you have to readjust your right hand entirely on the controller in order to do this rather than just simply move your thumb over slightly.
Obviously you can skip different amounts of frames at a time with the technique I mentioned, you just roll your thumb from B to start slower to skip more. But seriously, claw grip is not a good idea.
There is a list of pause frames for Monkey Ball 2, that can be found here: http://www.speedrun.com/supermonkeyball2/guide/8bdkm
I think the best place to find pause frames for SMB1 is by watching Callumbal's runs, since a list doesn't currently exist.
Some more info for pause buffering is to make sure you're not using pause unpause to buffer. Normally this skips about 6-10 frames at a time. For 1-2 frames at a time, which is highly important for speedrunners, put the end of your thumb on the pause button, then the part of your thumb underneath your knuckle over the B button. Then pause buffer by rolling your thumb from the knuckle to the tip to quickly skip 1-2 frames at a time,
I hope this helps.
Emulators are not unbanned. Approving Monkey's run on emulator was a mistake. Monkey's current time on the leaderboards was done on console.

For anyone that doesn't know, we have a Monkey Ball Discord server for the community. If you have anything to say it is best to ask someone there, rather than in these forums, as they aren't regularly checked by moderators.
We also have a Discord primarily for all of the less popular Monkey Ball games. This server isn't very active, and there are very few people in it, but join if you wish.
If you have any questions about the Discord server(s) please ask them in the series forum.
