Hmm I'd have loved to hear more about what people think about it, but while I'm usually really not against adding more categories, I'm not sure about this one.

Unless I'm missing something, wouldn't it be exactly the same route except you would just conquer your two allies just before capturing the final castle? Also there's not even a different ending or anything so I don't feel that would really be satisfying to run/grind. Actually, since it would be the same route, that would just double the same rng grinding for those who would want to be competitive in both leaderboards.

So I'm definitely leaving this up to discussion, especially in case I'm missing something, but right now I'm not sure about it. But if a few people are willing to grind it just for the heck of it, I'm down.

It's really nice to see the new skip which I didn't know about where you can skip events. I think it's really nice to be able to skip your remaining tries when you already got the WR, but I'm not sure what I think about skipping the clubbing event. In reality it's just a loophole in my rules and I don't think we should skip an event in an already super short game.

So my idea would be to allow skipping the events when you already got the WR but to force winning the 2 rounds of clubbing even if there are no WR to get. I think it's the best solution but I just wanted to make sure it was fine with you guys. Let me know what you think about it and I'll update the rules and unfortunately reject the 2 runs that skip clubbing.

I added the chest count to the rules to help newcomers. I hope I didn't misscount! A guide would be really nice too if someone wants to do it. If not I guess people can still watch the top run so it's not too bad.

All done! I created the category and added the 2 runs to it. Thank you all!

By the way I'm still open for a low% category if anyone wants to give it a try!

Thanks for the video, but this is not a valid proof that you can open all the chests. Viggo seems to be saying he has a route to open them all. I'll wait for that before creating the All Chests category. Also I didn't know about that hidden chest in world 3 at 4:13. That's great to know!

Also I don't think 100% is ever going to work so I think we should stick with All Chests for now.

Sorry I'm late to this. I'm definitely down to add more categories if people are willing to run them. Just send a proof of concept run here and I'll create the category with the rules. Same for low%, there was a talk about it a while ago but no one ended up running it.

I added the ms to the leaderboard and made it "required" for runs under 2:40. Let me know if you think I should make it higher or lower. I'm pretty hesitant with it considering the last split is really hard to get correctly.

I've also edited the runs affected by it. Feel free to double check and correct me if I'm wrong :)

Wow I'm really sorry for the delay. I realized that I wasn't getting any forum post notification by default.

That said, I think it's indeed a good idea. I'll work on it when I'll have the time probably later today.

I'm gonna run this game soon, but I don't have a run yet so you can ignore my vote if you want :P

That said, I don't think cheat% should ever be a category, especially not as a main category. While I vote to totally remove it, you could always add the cheat as a custom filter that would be deactivated by default. Like some boards don't show emulator runs by default. Not my favorite idea, but it's an alternative :P

Edit : I forgot. What I really don't like about the cheat% thing, is that someone would technically have to intentionally go cheat% if they want WR in every leaderboards. It's more obnoxious than anything.

Oh I see. That's unfortunate then :( I feel so much shit and frustration would have been solved with just a little more space. Oh well, better luck next time.

Yeah, I guess they kept the area for the retro zone that didn't even happen -.-

My biggest complain would be I felt that no care was really given to the viewing area. Either from the staff, DreamHack and even the runners at time.

  • First the audio quality was horrible. We could barely hear what the runners were saying and the fact that most of the time we could hear something in the background much more louder didn't help either. When it wasn't the SSBM music, it was the MSI cult just behind.
  • Nothing to keep the crowd was done, at all. It was really heart breaking to see the whole crowd leaves after every runs, especially the one after Super Mario Sunshine, which was huge! I understand none of them came for the speedrun event, so just having people there was great, but seriously, I don't know who would stay there after a run when the only thing you could see is a screen written "DreamHack Montreal NASA Reset" with not a single sound or music. And all that usually for over 10 minutes.
  • The reverse projector.... It did a great job, but seriously, people need to learn to not stand in front of a projector. I stayed in the crowd a lot during the event, and people were passing in front of it all the freaking time not realizing there were people watching on the other side.
  • It was said before, I even got the explanation why it was done this way, but cutting the runner from the crowd removed a lot of hype imo. Clapping from another room really is not the same feel. But anyway, really just pointing what I disliked there.

Other than that, I didn't follow it that much, but since I have some facts and I saw people complained about this a lot. Was there any advertising for the event? Last week, I talked to some speedrunners I know about it, even some who already attended events like GDQ, and not a single one of them were aware of the marathon. I didn't thought much about it at that time, but now I wonder if the speedrunning community was aware of the marathon at all. And if so, what make it so unappealing that no one spread the word?

Another quick complain and that concerns everyone, not just the staff. A lot of time people were playing other games right next to the runner. Were the runners even ok with this? I don't remember which run, but once I saw 4 people play Mario Party 3 watched by a couple more people, and not a single hype was given to the run. What the heck?

That said, I had a lot of fun. Thanks for all the time put to make this event a thing. Also sorry for being late for my run. We went away really early to eat something, then we got totally cut on our way back by the parade which was one road away from Place Bonaventure. Finally took us about 3 hours to get around it -.- I also learned that speaking english for a crowd is horrifying and very distracting for me. So I have to work really hard on that now haha.

Oh another thing, still on mobile, it's not intuitive that I can click on the leaderboard to watch a run. Especially that if I click on the name of the runner, which is right in the middle, I'll actually be redirected to the runner's profile.

I understand the need for responsivity as sgdq was about to start, but damn this feels terribly rushed.

At least I'll put my 2 cents in, the header of the leaderboard section is broken on mobile. The rest, on mobile, looks great.
