Getting all moons and purples inside Darker Side equals no Darker Side required
Sounds good, why not add pipes and vines?
Ah sorry, I was thinking they asked for an explanation of what RTA means
Real-time. Run the complete category in one go, no breaks. If you do take breaks, the timer isn't paused. Also no TASing tools
Not possible, unless you allow collecting greyed out moons, which would be faster but not as glamourous. Even then you got trouble redoing some moons for e.g. kingdom peace
I actually already got a bunch of different ideas for stage RTA:
- Any% - Start by arriving at the kingdom for the first time, and collect the moons required to leave. Timing ends with the cutscene of the odyssey filling up.
- Peace - Start by arriving at the kingdom for the first time, and collect the multi-moon corresponding to Toadette's "World Peace" achievement. Timing ends with the grab of the multimoon.
- First-trip - Start by arriving at the kingdom for the first time, and collect every moon available before beating the game. Timing ends with the cutscene of the odyssey filling up.
- 100% (controversial) - Start by arriving at the kingdom for the first time, collect any set of moons and regional coins, and trigger the cutscene of the odyssey filling up. Then load a save file where the same set of moons and regional coins have been collected, and collect all the remaining moons and regional coins in the kingdom. End by triggering the odyssey cutscene again. To verify, open the map and see a star next to both the moon count and the regional coin count of the kingdom.
- All regional coins (new) - Start by entering the kingdom on any file where no regional coins have been collected. Collect all regional coins.
- For boss levels like Moon and Darker Side: different categories of completing the stage with or without certain skips
First-trip and All regional coins also sound like interesting full-game categories to me
That post that Rmac is referring to has been written for the time before the release of the game, thus it is outdated afaik
T-Rex trampolin jump to Madam Broodal, I suppose
Should I link a bunch of footage that isn't by me? It's literally in every run
Well - while All Missions and 100% are both about just collecting the moons, it is looking good for Darker Side in the 503 moon category. I don't have definite information, but people are still running the category without that skip
That or just doing it from a new file. I like your suggestion a little bit better though
I don't think you'd have to do this before beating the game, since you aren't forces to collect purple coins on your first visit
That would lead to avoiding achievements, also the run wouldn't be followed by the credits when finished. Just getting the achievement moon sounds like what a random misc category would do, but World Peace imo is more than that - it is a category of completing the game and such should end with the completion of the game
Stage RTA 100%:
- When first entering the kingdom, get any number of moons sufficient to leave and trigger the cutscene of the odyssey filling up
- load a save file where only those moons in the kingdom have been collected (and any number of moons in other kingdoms)
- collect all the remaining moons in the kingdom This is facing a lot of resistance as some runners don't want to load a save file during their run. Maybe they also got confused, thinking I was talking about a full-game run when I was actually suggesting an IL
I actually got a bunch of different ideas for stage RTA:
- Any% - when first arriving at the kingdom, collect as many moons as you need to leave; end with the odyssey cutscene
- Peace - when first arriving at the kingdom, collect the multi-moon that corresponds to Toadette's "World Peace" achievement
- First-trip 100% - when first arriving at the kingdom, collect every moon that spawns before beating the game; end with the odyssey cutscene
- Second-trip - starting from a file where you have collected every first-trip moon, return to the kingdom and collect every moon that hasn't been collected yet
- (closest to 100%, which itself sadly doesn't look feasible) - starting from a file where you have collected just the number of moons required to leave, collect every moon that hasn't been collected yet
I'd really like to see Any% and first-trip 100%, at least
SM64 has runs separated by the devise that was used. That sounds like a good idea to me for this game as well. I don't think that any arbitrary numerical exchange should be a thing. Also, lag gives you more time to recover, so I'm also not in favour of just subtracting the loading times regardless of their length - in addition to the fact that this would make the timing pretty hard. Overall, I am in clear favour of real-time timing
Those 880 moons are called "mission moons", distinguishing them from shop moons. There is also the (currently empty) category "All missions", which comes closer to the good old 120 star imo, but lacks the additional one moon per shop. Maybe replace said category with "All distinct moons"?
What I like about 253 moon over No Major Skips is that 253 moon lets you choose how many moons to get from which course, so I'm looking forward to the variety that already comes with it, and will hopefully develop further
