So, I found an even faster way of doing Wally Walrus' bossfight. Remember in January, when I said you could only do the Early Damage strat once? Guess I was wrong lmao

I'm calling this one "The Ultra Kill", or maybe "Early Damage Combos", because Woody now constantly pecks/beaks Wally from the same barrel as the one you'd do the previous faster method, the Early Damage.

I have no idea of how you could do this consistently, but the setup I found is pretty interesting:

  • Get in the barrel as soon as you can, and turn left
  • Start pecking to the left, just holding the B button
  • In the first 2 frames Wally turns around, press "A" to warp to the other barrel, that will beak him once.
  • At this point, just spam the A button over and over (The TAS in the video does aproximately 7-8 cps, which at lot of people can do easily in a controller and in a keyboard), while still holding the B button to peck/beak
  • After you beak him 4-5 times (you can get accidental crits here), release the B button and jump out of the barrel and go to the right.

Not only does this saves A TON of time (10.611 seconds from my 7:33 WR, which already has an insane bossfight by itself, and not considering the fact that the TAS I did is pretty unoptimized), it also edges out the problems of precisely having to get out of barrels over and over again, because you can accidentally bonk and lose your speed, and ruin your timing for the bossfight.

Fun Fact: I found this while casually playing on Difficult mode, so it works on both versions!

So, I recently found that the rom of the game found in many websites today is not the actual game. Long story short: The rom is a "romhack" that for some reason, the author removed the intro, and very recently, two guys decided to get an original copy of the game and dump it into a computer file, and the original copy of the game actually had an intro, showing "SEGA", "TecToy" and some basic copyrights at the start of the game.

I played around with the game for some minutes and didn't find anything other than that different, but anyway, here's the link: https://github.com/ItsPietroFelix/itspietrofelix.github.io/blob/master/Ferias%20Frustradas%20do%20Pica-Pau%20%5B!%5D%20(Brazil).md

Ok, I found another strategy that can save some fractions or even full seconds.

This one i'll name "The Smedley Crit" or "The Bear Crit".

In the 1st level bossfight, right after you hit the bear with your beak, and while it's in that damage animation, you can jump right away and beak the squirrel in the tree, so it'll drop a hazelnut on Smedley - and for some goddang reason - when the nut hits the bear while he's in a damage animation and "INVINCIBLE", he doesn't play another damage animation, thus losing his 'invencibility', so you're able to do that 4 times in a row and save god knows how many seconds.

This Level 1 TAS applies this little trick: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1696553868/teste.bk2

Note: It's humanly possible! I got it in less than 15 attempts in practice. Note 2: It's probably possible to do it in the Level 3 boss (Polar bear), but I haven't found set-ups do that, and if that were to be possible, it would probably be way harder. Note 3: Yes, i am working on a full-game TAS.

I think i'll call this trick "Early damage"

In stage 2 boss, you can hit it from behind, but you need to be hidden in the barrel. So you can start the bossfight, get in the barrel immediately, and as soon as Wally turns around, warp to the other barrel and beak his back from behind, and it will continue to go to the other barrel. I think it's possible to do it five times to shave some good seconds, plus, it's not that hard, so it might be a good thing to do in runs.

Here's an example of 1 early damage, knowing that 5 is surely possible:

BTW, I dunno why i'm posting this, this isn't even an active speedgame, but I think it's cool lol, it can save like 5 seconds

Cover me in debris A balanced diet "Great view from up here" Get an Elytra Pigstep disc

I think at least one of these ideas are better than "die%" or any other category a lot of people ask
