Sadly you missed grabbing the Bread for the 100%, but since it's a finished run, I've moved it to Any% instead.
Also given the comment on your previous 100%, the timer starts upon movement within your first stage, so I removed 2 seconds as you started the timer earlier :)
Timing ends after the fade out of Link proclaiming he has won, so adjusted the time for that. Good first run :D
Moved this to 100% as it missed a few cutscenes for All Cutscenes. And I'd need to verify whether Harkinian worked the same as Link, down the line.
No worries, there was no rush! Saw that you mostly played CoD now, so figured I'd suggest the same action (in just making me a mod) down the line :D
Right, so, this does require a mod. I believe there are 2 different solutions out there, but I've had my Game Gear modded with a McWill LCD + VGA mod (like this one: https://8bitmods.com/game-gear-mcwill-led-lcd/).
This basically gives my Game Gear a VGA port, which will replicate what I have going on at my screen. So from there, I have a VGA + Aux cable that runs from my Game Gear to my OSSC, and from there's it's smooth sailing :D
Emulators are indeed allowed! It's a separate leaderboard since the emulators aren't too accurate (they are a bit faster than the OG hardware), but it's a great way to get started.
The most recent MAME version has improved compatibility with the CD-i quite a bit, so I'd suggest to start looking there. Sadly I'm not well versed in MAME or CD-i emulation as I'm lucky enough to have the hardware, but it can get you started :)
I've started a casual playthrough of this to investigate whether I'd like to pick it up as a speedrun, and I agree that (especially with the PC release coming soontm) the boards should make the swap to require video. It's a bit disheartening to just see a few times on the boards without any footage.
I know I don't have a stake in this right now, but I'd love to see this game get more attention and getting some videos on the board would definitely help out in that aspect.
Personally, so far I'm enjoying the game (the art direction is really interesting), so when I'm done I'll see if I can help out in this aspect by getting some IL times and a full any% on there, with video :)
(Currently playing it on PS3, using one of those sketchy splitters :P )
JRPGs are by far my favorite category of games to play casually, but the length has always been daunting to me as well. It depends a bit what you'd look for, a traditional turn-based one or a more action oriented variant (which seemed to start popping up late PS2/Xbox area). A JRPG I did enjoy (but was mediocre received by the public back in the days, the cutscenes are rather janky but the gameplay is pretty enjoyable) was Infinite Undiscovery, an early action based JRPG on the Xbox 360. The speedrun however, clocks in at a 2:45-3:00 mark (my first completed run was 3h28m).
The game is backwards compatible on Xbox, so it can be played on the Xbox One and Series S/X as well, making it an accessible JRPG from back in those days. There's a few risky sections that may lose you some time, but in my experience it's a pretty easy to learn run, with optimisations along the way. I've been itching to get back into it myself, because I'm not happy with my 3h06m time just yet :D
I was fiddling with it at the end of 2018 / start of 2019 myself, but never routed further than 6-9. Luckily SuperMegaDav put in a lot of effort last december, which makes the game easier and better to pick up than ever.
It's still not complete though, we're still finding things here and there (like my most recent stream found out how to disable the 7th hotel gimmick), but this is definitely a great time of getting started :D
The Nolaan store does sell them. I'm not sure if it's restricted to after looking for the priest and solving Dragonbone Shrine?
How rough would you like them? I wrote down some basic notes / reminders for myself (many of which I didn't use / need when actually doing runs). It doesn't tell you the complete routes to walk besides some of the more mazey areas, but it could get you started. Generally I'd have them on an iPad in front of me during a run.

I'm surprised it took this long for a leaderboard to pop up and I may join up later (at least, it is/was my intention to run this game, but other priorities came up), but I just noticed the GDQ submission so figured I'd take a look.
I figure you may have seen it already, but last year a run was done by Mountebank, which while solo, sits at 26:52. In case you haven't, you can find it here:
It may still be of assistance to you for the submissions, I'm not sure how much the levels differ between the solo and co-op run :)
Good luck at least!
I'd say a Discord is a good idea, but feel like I'm in the same boat here as someone who just managed to do 1 full run so far (while it's a relatively short RPG, time availability is still a pain :P ).
I'm kinda curious how OP the voucher makes you? I never really went in depth on that one, but I never felt like I was weak during the game using the speedrun strats as it is. Especially when you steal Sigmunds weapon in the camp, you're quite strong for that part of the game. So until what point would the voucher be beneficial?
Hey all. Infinite Undiscovery has been backwards compatible on the Xbox One now for a bit less than a year (iirc), so could that platform be added to the game / page?
I've been really tempted to learn the game and started replaying it last week (eventually opted to start it using the tutorial as well, to get familiar with the speedrun strats), but not skipping cutscenes so I can refresh the story (last I played it was 2008-2009). So I may do a first run attempt this weekend already, but this is being done on the Xbox One X.
Yeah, roms are understandable that it's not allowed. And well, MESS I guess is easy to find anyway, so I don't think putting that in the resources would be bad then.
I'm pretty sure I dabbled with MESS before, but possibly an old version of it that didn't run CDi too well. Wand of Gamelon was incredibly choppy for instance, Faces of Evil also acted up. Anyway, I'd love to see it at least :D
Excellent, I'd love that :D
I'm not sure if putting the emulator in the resources tab will lead to legal issues though, haven't checked how other leaderboards deal with that (if at all).
I do know that there's a sizeable amount of people wanting to do a blind race of this sometime, so I'd love to fiddle a bit with it and set up a package to get that race going in some time :D
Due to the rollback my last post was removed and I was logged out, so didn't see the pending run.
First of all, congrats with the run, that's a solid time :D
We've noticed that the loading of the emulator was quite a bit faster than a regular CDi and the regular gameplay also seems faster (though possibly not as fast as the rare CDi 370 that PDT has). Because of this, we did decide to create an emulator tab for the 3 categories (Any%, 100%, All Cutscenes).
I'm glad to see that an emulator is now a proper option to play the game though! This will open things up quite a bit for people who've been wanting to play the game, but didn't want to shell out a lot of money (especially in the US) to get started on it.
Just out of curiosity, which (exact) emulator are you using? And the BGM only coming from my left speaker is a quirk of it?
@blueYOSHI Thanks, that fixed it. Not really a bug then, more like a weird feature? :P
I've noticed a weird bug in the Fairytale Fights leaderboard.
When going to the ftf page (https://www.speedrun.com/ftf/full_game), no runs are visible. This seems caused by the Character filter, which is by default on Any. When switching the filter to any of the characters, and then back to Any, the (only) run becomes visible. This seems to be a bug? Or am I missing something?
Alright, apparently I didn't know too much about it (or well, about there not being a region lock for US/JPN), and will be going for the SFC without the chip, but just the case modded so it can accept US SNES cartridges. So it should function as a normal SNES :)
Thanks!
