My point in asking this is whether we are playing the same game or not apart from minor technical differences that are unimportant for speedrunning. I have been looking for the changes that would affect my approach to the Resistance campaign but I have yet to see any.

It is very imporant for the speedruning the entire campaign because you can skip some very large chunks of the game simply because the game allows it and doesn't have the proper ending triggers for the outcome of you failing the objectives, namely:

  • Hostages mission can be skipped entirely in my version OFP 1.96
  • Reckoning mission can be also skipped and the campaign lets you through
  • The Pass mission can be skipped too.

You can check these in your Arma last patch game whether this works or not.

As long as they are similar enough I don't think I should need to upgrade the game.

Hello 23Banzaj,

maybe you can clear up for me to second part that I asked which is: "Does the Arma: Cold War Crisis version of the game allow for Resistance campaign the objectives skipping that I demonstrated in my Resistance Any% Segmented run (https://www.speedrun.com/ofp_resistance/run/zq6o061y)?"

Best regards,

Greghouse

I guess considering last two speedruns my first question has been answered. Thanks for no replies there. Let's hope I'll see the results of the other question in action.

Hey guys,

I would like to ask you whether the tricks I use in my Resistance campaign speedrun using the original Operation Flashpoint game work the same in the ARMA: Cold War Assault. These 'tricks' consist mainly of:

  • Using same/load mechanics to regain control of the player in a cutscene.
  • Ignoring some of the mission's seemingly main objectives and still being allowed to continue to the next mission.

Thanks!

@Meozinho I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss this but since I'm the moderator of https://www.speedrun.com/ofp_resistance I would like to give an explanation and my point of view.

More than 2 years ago I've made a request for creation of the speedrunning section for Operation Flashpoint since it was the game I was running back then. I was looking for a section to post my run on Speedrun.com but I couldn't find any so naturally I asked for one to be created. I had no idea they had re-released the game under a different name.

Even though the game is no longer available under its original name I have requested the name of the page to be called "Operation Flashpoint: Resistance" since that's the name the game has on my box and it's the game I'm playing. I don't know what are the differences between that and the version that's available on Steam if any. I requested the page to be only for this campaign since I didn't want to moderate every campain and single player mission for the game that has been released by the developers in base game or other expansions thinking that should there be an interest to expand the page I would have been open to it. Also I was under the impression that expansions have a separate pages (e.g. Starcraft and Starcraft: Broodwar). Some time later when I found out about the other page I saw "Arma: Cold War Assault" so I figured they run the original campaign which is called "Cold War Crisis" and I left it as it was.

Finally I'm open to reaching some sort of compromise but I would prefer to retain the original name of the game since that is the name that has made the game famous before it was "stolen" from it by the publisher.

PS: If by "Red Dawn" you meant "Red Hammer" campaign than that wasn't the part of ARMA: Cold War Assault game as it is copyrighted by Codemasters.

Operation Flashpoint speedrunning is in my humble opinion yet another kind of speedrunning because the game itself allows you to speed-up game speed up to 4 times which makes things a lot quicker but also a lot harder to control.

I was disappointed there is no speedrunning section for this game neither here nor at SDA so I decided to start one here since I think Speedrun.com is the main speedrunning website in the world right now and I believe OFP has a lot of speedrunning potential that is hidden in various parts of the internet. I saw 2 runs on the SDA forums burried deep, there are also couple of individual mission runs of the original game on Youtube. I would be glad if we could put it together.

So to start things off a little bit I posted here my OFP: Resistance Any% run done in mission segments (because at this moment I'm too bad performing it single segment and don't have the time to practice for the moment) which is more of a display of couple of speedrunning strategies for OFP: Resistance campaign.

Also please don't mind the timing which is at this point a bit arbitrary. Timing for the each segment (mission) I use mainly to see the improvement and not as an aboslute judgement of the mission speed. At this point I simply made rules for myself which is something but it's not perfect by far.

Anyways ...

If you have your runs you want to present feel free to contact me.
