So update is OG XBOX is a lot faster and can run both versions at 50 Hz (NTSC XBOX has savewarping which is useful for All Levels). 360 still sucks balls. PAL PS2 is second-fastest and probably still competitive on OPL HDD in All Levels (not 100% because OPL soft-resetting is really weird). NTSC PS2 is runnable but not advisable. XBOX on 60Hz... I wouldn't even try... I started running on that and it was horrendous.

Why didn't I mention PS3? iirc it crashes in HUB 3, so I don't believe it can do anything but cursed route in 100% and any%

How is modifying an exe of a game to be something else basically the same as the original game? Like, here's the thing: the changes COULD look like vanilla, but research would mean you'd need to check the actual code, compare it to the original, give us proof instead of saying you've done research, which, no offense, but how are we supposed to know you didn't try something like homing attack an enemy as proof? We need full evidence, and then we'd need to just take into account that the exe itself was modified to seem like the original, and it even had a bug not present in the original game (the Sky Deck Act I cannon). I'm sorry, but we'll need a lot of evidence to support the argument. Please don't take this as being mean. That is not my intention. It's just that basic observations can't really cut it here. Really, unless we knew 100% exactly how it functioned, had access to all the code, and analyzed it, we can't really even consider it imo

Also, to point it out, adding arbitrary categories when there's already All Levels is kinda pointless. The game is a lot more fun with glitches and OoBs as well.

thread: The Site

I really don't like any of those outcomes is a good idea for the communities it entails, really.

The first thing I want to address, after talking with people from Cyberscore and other communities, is that I don't think pure integration will work in a beneficial way for everyone. If SRCom has integration from Cyberscore or highscore or whatever, why should it even exist? We might think that their system is flawed, but they've been around for how long now and they've been doing fine? Yes, they should change things here and there. But forcing it under new things by new people will be more destructive for the communities as a whole further down the line

The second thing is that I think a fully centralized hub for everything will be disastrous and harmful for the communities. The thing is is that speedrunning and competitive score guys are not singular communities at all. They are a network of sub-communities, large and small, that only share common goals, which makes up these "communities" we think of. I think something like that doesn't deserve to be under a single hub, but a network of hubs that connect to each other. Instead of "Do it my way" or "I'll buy you out", it NEEDS to be connected, but still under the influence of the people themselves. SRCom ALMOST has a similar system, but the stuff is bound to how the site is. Cyberscore is bound to its own stuff, but can still have changes in moderation and everything. We need connection, not integration And the way you've been going about the stuff, since you were neglectful of connection to begin with, is disrespectful and closed-minded. I've been around these communities for almost 8 years now. I've seen them work in their own ways. It's good and beautiful. I've seen the CS scene, the Sonic Center scene, the speedrun.com scene, the google docs, the twitch scene... I've seen that stuff develop. I've seen some die. I don't think domination is how things need to be done and Pac, you're being too aggressive. You should talk to Cyberscore's mods and understand how they had their relationship with Sonic Center and learn from that. I think if he does those things, he will largely benefit all of these communities, but I think his current plans will do a lot of harm and disorganize and separate the communities further than they already are.

The third is that, well, creating a new site just divides things further. Why compete? Why go against each other? Why not coexist with a network? It should be possible if you guys sit down and talk instead of integration. It's worked for lots of speedgames that didn't have all this stuff before, but just taking over existing ones just doesn't make sense to me at all. I'm sorry if this seems a bit rude, but these are my honest feelings. The honest feelings of an oldboy who's experienced quite a few aspects of our part of the gaming community

A person I follow did this and I was wondering if this was known about. Apparently, he scoured the net and couldn't find anything about it, so I thought it might be a good idea to ask, just in case it's actually not known about/undocumented

XBOX is technically faster. XBOX 360 lags a shitton to the point where it's basically not worth trying. Plus all versions but PAL PS2 have rampant slide glitch (edit: this is caused by running the game in 60 Hz instead of 50, it's not a version difference). Slide glitch is basically when you slide and move the direction you're holding slightly during that slide, and you end up going in a completely different direction, sometimes doing a full 180° turn. Best advice: Get the PAL PS2 version. It's just better overall (edit: OG XBOX is best now)

Look, the strats are LITERALLY just follow the path. Especially in Sky Deck. That's how Tails works. There are kill planes in Windy Valley that you must dodge. I can't explain how I know when I dodge them. It's a trick you must get a feel for. Chaos 4 is a very obvious boss. Speed Highway, you take the path everyone but me takes.

For the Sand Hill clip, you put the stick at halfway forward to clip

Egg Walker Tutorial

And don't ask for a category to make it only easier for yourself to get a WR. If the community wanted loadless runs, they'd have it by now and never listened to me when I constantly told them what they needed to look for (I've been wanting loadless since I joined the single segment runners of this game). In fact, I never even got a response from anybody, so I'm PRETTY sure that the community doesn't want loadless runs (there IS a way to make it work across all consoles). And making a Steam-only category is even worse, as it's basically free WR everywhere. Especially when the community has multiple downloads for the PC disc version (I'd recommend cancelling your order; you'll likely get the wrong exe which will make things harder on you). Better to just ask around for a download.

I'm sorry about me being ridiculously harsh, but I take my speedrunning very seriously, and these kinds of stipulations of new categories or new timing methods without proper implementation leads to free WRs, which just makes people get bragging rights for the wrong reasons. I've always thought that people should earn these things legit. Anyone can reach their goals given enough time and effort. I'm just saying that you ought to try harder and choose the path that everyone else takes.

If you REALLY want loadless, talk about it in the community. I'd honestly be really happy if that actually becomes a thing. Not fair for people that don't have the luxuries the rest of us do and can't compete with the rest of us

You watched kinky's tutorial? LMAO That's why. His tutorial is bad. Watch ACTUAL good runners

Ohio, USAGpro7 years ago

Have you tried watching other runs and copying the strats? Literally everything is viable on all versions. You don't need help. Those who refuse to learn can't be helped. Tails' Story is a run you can learn by watching and then doing (except Egg Hornet). Don't go to others unless you've actually TRIED to learn everything. Clearly you put 0 effort into learning anything but Casinopolis and the route. Come back when you've put the effort and time into the damn category

Slide glitch is really bad on XBOX 360 and it lags like hell, so as long as you're on NTSC PS2 1.1, you'll be fine

Ohio, USAGpro7 years ago

Probably gonna be a no. There's All Levels and MAny%(all levels and bosses), but glitchless will likely never even be considered

So I guess Spikestuff learning a bunch about PS1 emulators and spending a bunch of time around TASVideos and such isn't credible evidence?

An emulator's job is to be as accurate as it possibly can. If PSXfin has so little accuracy, why should your point even be valid? At that point, you'd be barely okay with FPse, which is barely acceptable. Reminder that ePSXe and Mednafen have MORE ACCURACY than the PS3 emulation, which is official hardware, according to this chart,

http://i.imgur.com/lo1ZL6b.png Of course emulators aren't gonna be 100% accurate, but you mean to tell me that you draw the line at 3% accuracy over 80% accuracy?

You give no real arguments, Your reasons are literally "PS2 is faster" and "I want this unbanned". You use it every time. Stop. It's banned because inaccuracy. That means it has a damn good reason to be banned. Its alternative, ePSXe, is just as easy to set up AND is more accurate to boot. If you find faults in these reasons, give me actual, logical reasons why it should be unbanned, Ones that don't discredit inaccuracy because of convenience, preferably

TheRedhotbr and Spikestuff like this

Uh.... Inaccuracy IS a topic of whether it should be banned or not >_> Because if it isn't very accurate, you're not playing the same game. Inaccurate emus lead to game-breaking things that can't be done elsewhere. Inaccuracy should be banned if it's not close enough to the actual game/console. If I remember, PSXfin had a 3% accuracy rating versus the 70-80%s on mednafen and ePSXe... That's not even a contest

And don't get the "But I want MY emulator unbanned" BS because that has no logic, as inaccuracy does have logic. But banning all emus would mean the local poor guy can't run, but anyone can get any emulator equally... So banning one emulator makes 0 difference :)

Last I remember, there HAS been some work on a loadless timer, but I'm not 100% sure if it'll get put in place as something that will allow other versions to be loadless as well, but the basis is using the IGT frame counter to dictate the time for the timer, which SHOULD be close enough to be comparable to taking a video of a run from console and just editing out the loading times themselves in theory. You'd have to ask ShiningFace about it, though, considering he's the one that was actually working on it, last I checked

Just as a side-note, the PC Disc version runs at a maximum of 63 FPS (varies between 60 and 63 depending on your hardware, not counting lag), whereas all the other versions run at 60 with the exception of the Dreamcast version and cutscenes. DC runs at 30 visual FPS and so do cutscenes for all versions (except Twinkle Circuit in DC, which, for whatever reason, runs at 60 anyways). The only version with any differences in levels is DC, so, in theory, RTA-without-loads, if the timer in Livesplit is set properly, would be 100% accurate to compare PC Disc with every other version aside from DC, which would be KINDA nice considering the framerate differences and loading time advantages make lots of things unfair
