But it's easy to enforce: you watch the run and see what food each character eats. The items menu is accessed so many times, and all stats are on one page, so it's impossible to hide anything.
The characters' diets should already be planned: the first 18 bytes are locked, and after that, only food that digests in <=6 bytes will work. The only >6 food that should be bought anyway are 1 Tonkotsu Ramen (Neku brv +6), 1 Shio Ramen (wall), 1 Miso Ramen (Shiki atk +1), and up to 7 hot dogs (partner atk +1). You can't screw this up unless you accidentally have a partner eat a 4th hot dog. Allowing midnight reset would just allow Neku to intentionally eat other stat boosting food.
I support banning shutdown PP evolution because changing the date is different on the various systems (DS/DSi/3DS) and it's a pain in the ass to deal with that. It is also an external exploit; traditionally in-game exploits are allowed but not external ones.
My personal take on what the rules should be:
- No easy except for the Sexy + pin wall ("required for a drop" rules are iffy because what if you're playing easy to get money pins?)
- No food routing that takes advantage of the midnight reset
- Pin evolution via mingle or shutdown PP banned
And everything else should be fair game.
As for the subject of 1P2C vs 2P2C, until it's proven that 2P2C is significantly faster than 1P2C, then they should be lumped together. 2P2C is theoretically faster but only if both players can read each other perfectly.
Yeah if people want to run on hard, then let them run on hard. Opens more options. Adamantite is only available on hard, and there is maingame Adamantite clothing. (Whether or not they're worth it is up for discussion.)
I agree that easy is bullshit though because the Remix easy difficulty multiplier of 3.75 is quite frankly baby mode.
Note that hard on Remix is 75% of normal (0.9375), while on DS it's 61%.
If switching to hard isn't allowed, that's OK. Each raven symbol has 3 ravens instead of 2 on W1D6, so you get more rare metal anyway. By doing the fight on normal instead of hard, you get the equivalent of 1 Tektite per raven symbol rather than 3. By integrating the Pop Pendulum fight with the Rare Metal farming on W2D2, you skip the W2D3 Pop Pendulum fights.
Material fights:
-
Only do a single decaraven 4-chain on W1D6 if possible, as the wall only requires 3 rare metal, which are used later to get the biker jacket. You're moving the farming fight to W2D2.
-
When W2D2 begins at Scramble Crossing, set difficulty to hard and set level so that drop rate is EXACTLY 5. Do a 3-chain with 1 of the small "frog" noise symbol FIRST and 2 of the small "raven" noise symbol. If the first fight does not have 2 green crabs, flee and try again (there will be 2 green+1 red, or 3 red). This is the last time in the game that decaravens appear without detours. At exactly 15 drop rate, this does two things: 1) 90% chance each decaraven drops Tektite (!!); 2) 22.5% chance that each green crab drops ¥5K. You want this to fail so they drop Pop Pendulum. Getting Tektite here means you don't have to quest for it on W2D4, saving ¥30K and lots of rare metal. The Pop Pendulum drop saves fighting for it later on W2D3. I am doing this 4-chain for my DS run, and it'll work here too. Fusion increases drop rate so don't use it.
-
Check rare metal amounts here because you would've gotten extra from Cornix. If you don't have enough rare metal, use this area on normal difficulty to get what you need.
-
Neku doesn't need to eat food after ramen + 7 ice cream + BRAVE+. Save time by not feeding unless sync is at 0 and you're about to do a boss fight.
-
Nylon Waist Pack's ability only works for the partners so no point putting it on Neku. I think we should just go with San Francisco, which is the ATK +7 hat at Wild Boar Udagawa on W2D4. Biker Jacket/San Francisco/Green Warm-Ups/Purple Sneaks looks OK.
-
If you manage to get 5 extra Tektite from the W2D2 ravens, consider upgrading Biker Jacket to Patchy Biker Jacket (ATK +21) on W2D5. Requires buying 2 Durable Leather at Shibu-Q on W2D4.
-
Skip the Funky Shades/Definitivo Chili Dog sidequest suggestion I had and just outright buy 3 Sparkling Silver on W2D4 or W2D6 if you're going for King Pendant. Remember that it also needs 6 Rare Metal.
-
Test with a complete save to see if Goth Bondage Coat on Beat puts you in SOS. If not, then that's an ATK +27 top with no downside. Otherwise, the Beat ATK setup mentioned in earlier posts should work.
Doing some good progress. Apparently my old guide was too safe, so this time I'm routing it with an aggressive plan in mind. My food plan is complete; hamburgers aren't used in the run because +ATK is more important than +HP. I'm trying to align all the instances where food is eaten in order to save time.
My planned run has a budget of ¥282K, with the W1D6 checkpoint at ¥69K and the W2D5 checkpoint at ¥189K. The WR run has the W1D6 and W2D5 checkpoints at ¥79.5K and ¥230K, and doesn't buy anything after W2D5. My planned run will visit shops 3 more times after W2D5. Hmm...
The following is a cheat code to immediately get the "game cleared" sticker, which allows you to fast-forward through the text with L or R. Press UP+SELECT once the game begins on W1D1, and you can blast through the text. It also has the side effect of unlocking all items in shops, so make sure you don't buy something that isn't normally available on that day.
94000130 FFBB0000 D5000000 000102AE D6000000 02072C80 D5000000 000102A7 D6000000 02072C84 D2000000 00000000
EDIT: Eww, looks like forcing the game cleared sticker has a serious consequence: the game no longer gives you any of the one-time items such as Scarletite or tutorial book items, instead replacing them with 500 yen. This includes the phone menu sticker. I've added code to include the phone menu sticker, but I'll have to practice without the code for at least a while until I have saves up for each day. Maybe someone can look into a code that enables text skipping without using the game cleared sticker?
The English wiki doesn't have a shop list with availability dates. Use https://wiki.denfaminicogamer.jp/subarashiki_final_remix/%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%83%E3%83%97%E4%B8%80%E8%A6%A7 to find out when stuff is available. (Last column is availability date. If you don't know the items in Japanese, use the 3rd column, cost, to figure it out.)
Neku would still be wearing Biker Jacket/Green Warm-Ups/Purple Sneaks, so that's +10.5% sync per dual blazing CC hits. With Beat wearing Brown Baby Tee (+1.5%)/Nylon Waist Pack (+1.5%)/Green Warm-Ups (+1%)/Purple Sneaks, it would be +14%. So charging would require about 33% more hits to hit the same amount as the sync setup, but I think the damage output more than makes up for that.
Not sure about what should be in Neku's 4th clothing slot if it's not Naraka. But before the Anguis fight, you could transfer King Pendant and San Francisco (or buy a 2nd San Francisco) for extra oomph.
I'm probably going to focus more on the DS version in the future, as I actually can no longer play Final Remix. Borrowed a friend's Switch to play it and have no intention of running what I feel is the "inferior" version. But I can help out with theory through calculations.
I'm almost certain that massing ATK for Beat is the way to go. He could have 56 ATK after getting Negotiator and the 2 ATK stickers on W3D5:
10 base 7 San Francisco 12 Negotiator 16 King Pendant 1 Purple Sneaks 3 ATK stickers via story 3 ATK stickers via shops 4 Double ATK Capsules digested
In Ghoul02's run, Beat had 21 ATK at that point. Doing more than double damage with Beat would save a great amount of time, plus power up his fusions so that a lv3 may possibly 1HKO Tigris (if it doesn't glitch) and skip phase 3.
Looking at the chart, the ideal food run for Beat would be BRAVE+, then 2 ATK Capsules. You can afford that if you skip getting Tektite for Joshua Fusion 3. But that saves so much time against Sho... hm.
You should remove the W1 tutorial fights in the chart for consistency. Start at W1D3.
Beat should also get all 3 of his ATK stickers: 1 on D2 and 2 on D5. Yeah, everyone says not to get the ATK stickers, but this is a speedrun and we don't care if we burn Scarletite. +3 ATK on Beat is a significant +6 damage per hit.
Miso Ramen is poor for Neku. It means he equips Purple Sneaks and Biker Jacket later in the run, so that's lost time. Also, with Neku requiring +3 ATK for +1 damage with a 35% efficiency psych like Shockwave, using ATK food isn't a good idea. I think Tonkotsu Ramen + Soft Serves is optimal. Neku wants that Biker Jacket equipped ASAP.
Actually, Miso Ramen is just poor in general and only works for Shiki W1D3 because Hot Dog digests 1 fight sooner, and you can buy them on W1D5. With ATK Capsules being 6 bytes for +2 ATK, it's the best choice, but it's expensive.
Tutorial fights don't digest food or add EXP/PP, no use having them in the doc
Final Remix has inspired me to run the DS version again after many years, and I want to do it while all the stuff is fresh in my head again. There are some new routing ideas that I'd like to try. I can do maybe 4 serious runs in a weekend, and I'll probably work on it for a month or so.
Can't find my prepped saves that I use for practicing specific days anymore, so I'll have to remake them.
Yes. SOS boosts raise both pin ATK and character ATK, so Sun Emperor is a straight up +15% ATK. Combined with Tin Pin Thrift and Camouflage (low BRV pants at Wild Boar 104), that's +65% ATK. I'm not sure if that's substantial enough, as SOS is usually done with Ribbon Mini-hat/Red Two-tier Skirt/Vampire Dress, which gives +110% ATK. Sadly, Lapin Angelique clothes are too expensive for the speedrun.
Beefing up Beat's ATK so that he does nearly triple damage compared to what he did in your run seems way more appealing than attempting SOS, and I don't think there's enough money to do that and get Sun Emperor. (Neku could still wear Camouflage.)
I would recommend against doing SOS until you can consistently run the regular setup with no game overs to within a 10-minute consistency. The week 3 bosses look tougher especially with the less accurate joycon setup. Press psychs and slash up psychs are miserable, and they seem less responsive even when using a stylus. Something got screwed in the port. Press psychs only seem to work if your pointer is completely still, so good luck keeping one hand steady while the other moves.
Beating Tenho is super easy: just choose a pin with 3 (or more) stingers and immediately use the stinger (spiked ball) when play starts. Tenho will ram his pin into your stinger and then you can easily KO. I've beaten Tenho in under 20 seconds this way. But again, I really wouldn't enjoy the beeping and the very real risk of being erased (they're already dead), especially in a 4-hour speedrun.
Thunder Rook is something to consider, but it's only easily available on W3D6 (W3D5 is too much of a detour), and Neoclassical Drake drops it at 3% on easy. (At level 1 you'd have about a 50/50 shot of getting the drop, though a Lv3 4.0x fusion adds 12 drop stars, making it ~85%.) Thunder Rook would only benefit the 3 fights on W3D7. Note that Remix Thunder Rook is stronger than DS Lightning Rook, so even with this extra fight, enough time may be saved on Megumi and Draco for Thunder Rook to be worth it.
Lastly, Tin Pin Thrift (+30% ATK, lose 75% HP) is always an option to consider. In a hypothetical world where this game is as optimized as Super Mario Bros, I'd think that Tin Pin Thrift would achieve WR times. But SOS in Remix causes constant beeping unlike in DS, and I'd go insane hearing that for half the run. Someone else can test that, lolol
Naraka's ability is +5.5% dmg per CC hit. And it's rounded down. So Neku with Naraka in most cases will be doing +1 damage per CC hit if the hit dealt 36HP or less. It would benefit the partner more, especially Beat, as Beat hits at 225% efficiency with his main press psych.
I watched Punchy's stream and the W3 fights were way longer than a minute, and the Lv3 fusions were just short of a 1HKO. So that's enough to convince me that this is the way to go. Even saving 10 seconds on each of the 9 box puzzle fights due to Beat's increased ATK is a 1.5 minute save.
Now that the puck is gone, the equips need a different focus. Neku's psych efficiency is so low that the pin ATK mainly carries his damage output.. +1 dmg for Neku is equivalent to +3 ATK with psychs like Shockwave. But the partners benefit greatly from increased ATK: Beat gets +2 dmg per +1 ATK.
One subtle change from Solo Remix to Final Remix are the starting sync+ threads. In Solo Remix, they increased sync% from the starting value. That meant if you had 50% w/+40% starting sync, you'd start with 70%. In Final Remix, it's simply added on. So Beat with Love+Peace and Negotiator will always get +80%, even from a starting sync of 0%, which occurs if you ended the previous fight with a fusion. This may be worth pursuing as Beat's fights aside from the box puzzles aren't chained. Love+Peace is +40% sync and +8 ATK, while King Pendant is +16 ATK. Tough call.
The Chili Dog detour takes maybe an extra 2-3 minutes and is needed to get a Sparkling Silver anyway. (3 are required for King Pendant.) The Funky Shades discount, plus the 3 yen bonuses from the 3 walls, is worth it. ATK Capsules falls under the fullness threshold, so maybe use that instead if there's money.
Let's see, the fights are forced bounty, Pteropus, Uzuki, box puzzle (9), Kariya, both, multi-reaper, berserk, Tigris, Megumi. That's 18 fights. Maybe there's room for 1 or 2 more pig fights.
I think Beat having +25 ATK with San Francisco/Hey Everybody/King Pendant over Naraka/Green Warm-Ups/Brown Baby Tee is the way to go. Fusions will be slightly slower, but this translates into nearly triple damage for his regular hits, and an extra 496 dmg with Lv2 4.0x fusion, or an extra 744 dmg with Lv3 4.0x fusion. A Lv2 fusion should be able to 1HKO Uzuki.
Due to Remix's different mechanics than DS, I feel that Beat is better suited to wearing all-out ATK threads rather than having the faster sync setup (Brown Baby Tee/Green Warm-Ups/Purple Sneaks) which only gives +4 ATK. Unlike Neku, Beat has 200%+ efficiency for all his psychs, so I feel extra ATK would be better. That means Beat's equip routing must be entirely redone.
EDIT: Definitivo Chili Dog sidequest removed, not worth it
W2D4: Buy San Francisco @ Wild Boar Udagawa (+7 ATK cap is the best you can get for cheap). Maybe buy extras for Neku/Joshua. W2D6: Buy 3 Sparkling Silver at Shibu-Q for King Pendant later. W3D2: Sell enough pins to get 45k yen. Enter Wild Boar 104. Buy 2x New York to raise FSG to Lv3, then buy Hey Everybody (+7 ATK top), then buy Wild Boar Pendant and immediately quest buy King Pendant (+16 ATK accessory, requires 6x Rare Metal). Have Beat equip San Francisco/Hey Everybody/King Pendant/Purple Sneaks for +31 ATK. W3D5: Buy Negotiator @ Wild Boar 104 (+12 ATK top, +40% sync). Replace Hey Everybody with it.
Hi! I wrote the speedrun walkthrough FAQ 6 years ago.
You're right, the FAQ played it very safe; this was done intentionally because I wanted it to be good for new players. In addition, I merged the low ESPer hard run instructions into the normal speedrun, adding a few steps along the way. The low ESPer hard run is a nightmare, by the way. Don't try it unless you're a super masochist, though grinding for Black Jeans makes it much easier.
One Stone Many Birds (OSMB) is still the ultimate maingame pin because the Burst Rounds psych is 150% efficiency. There is no other pin that comes close to its damage, other than Tin Pin Custom (the generic Burst Rounds pin).
The fastest strategy is SOS (halved HP), which the FAQ didn't cover. On W2D5, you get the pin Tin Pin Thrift, and the threads Camouflage and Sun Emperor. Unlock the abilities and equip these two with Biker Jacket and Purple Sneaks on Neku. He'll have 33+65 (OSMB atk) ¤ 1.65 = 161 final ATK, which is much higher than the standard Biker Jacket/Purple Sneaks/Naraka/Green Warm-Ups setup of 30+65 = 95 final ATK. A 5X puck under SOS is the equivalent of an 8.5X puck with the normal setup. I'm pretty sure with SOS, the IGT can go under 3h50m.
You'd also want to cut some of the pig battles, and to run Poison Bones for every non-boss battle just to get the DEF Break debuff. Noise with DEF Break take double damage.
Maybe I'll reroute and try the whole SOS speedrun in the summer. My DS is in another city right now. In the meantime, you can check out my iOS FTA:H run:
