@Cads I don't mean to reiterate but wouldn't any possible discrepencies or inconstistencies again only really be important if emulator wasn't it's own choice separate from console? If the inconsistencies are part of the way Dolphin runs the game or how certain computers run it, wouldn't it not really be an issue for verification if made it's own selection?
@DiamondcrafterA that's a good argument, would you then say that there are other reasons besides that, that haven't been properly responded to?
I think it's good for a community to look back at a prior "final decision" to really evaluate it.
Whether something has already been chosen or not is inconsequential to whether or not it makes sense. I haven't even run the game but I feel the reasoning for not adding emulator seems to be the mods personal preference, since most of the reasons seem to be able to be worked around as part of the rules that would need to be implemented. If you went to a retro game store and bought an unofficial copy they got ahold of, and it's presumably just a rip of the files put onto another disc, you would probably have no idea either way so it doesn't make it less of the game. You're still playing the game none the wiser to it being unofficial.
I feel like potential cheating is the strongest argument for why emulator shouldn't be allowed, even though it could be managed properly as has been stated throughout the thread. I understand that a lot of games don't allow emu and other unnofficial means of play but isn't that mostly because of discrepencies in time and ease of cheating as well? So as previously stated it could still be it's own choice for runs, allowing only Dolphin with certain restrictions like recording whatever is needed to help with verifying the run. I also feel that saying the VC was more asked for isn't important since that is an official mean which will be asked for regardless in any popular game, as well as the fact that there is an earlier forum thread stating that every mention of Emulator would be deleted, not really allowing for people to bring it up over however long that was in place for.
Seeing as runs on any system can be cheated wouldn't Dolphin's TAS capabilities just be something that would argue against emu being with console. It gives a higher chance yes, but if the issue is that someone could cheat it wouldn't affect the other boards and if it's not a record or high time then the person basically just wasted their own time right? Not advocating for cheating but if they aren't caught and it isn't a great time isn't it not that huge of a deal on it's own category?
As someone who is looking into the run and only owns the game on console I think splitting the boards to PC and Console could be beneficial. Specifically because of how much time PC saves on loading, I don't think many people who get into the game on console would see the possibility for having higher ranking times or general competition with PC players. Just something I figure could be thought about again with the upcoming release of Mirage potentially bringing eyes back on the Assassin's Creed series as a whole.
I personally believe that level runs should be added. I feel like since it's a shorter run yes it could get perfected fairly quickly which is a downside. However, because of them being shorter more people may be inclined to try them out and use them to get more familiar with the game. I myself am considering running this game at some point and feel like having a level run would be easier to tackle than a full run.
