Hey, I just created the leaderboard and added the runs from the wikidot, the nico wiki and a couple which were missing. Feel free to submit your times here, and if you want your time removed from this leaderboard, just ask me (either in this thread, via Twitch PM (gaeldemarseille), or on SRL IRC (Gael) )
I've made category decisions that could be controversial like Any% Western vs Japanese ruleset or Any% no job glitch (w/ English translation patch) and Any% glitchless, no encounter skip as miscellaneous categories. I've also made up some rules, that may not be accurate for some categories. Nothing is set in stone and this is why I opened this thread, to get people opinion on the matter I also need a better name for the Encounter Manipulation variable because I don't really like the term "with prior manipulation"
I also didn't create categories for the remakes (DS, PSP, IOS, Android, Steam) because I never played those versions and can't moderate them. And personally I think it would be better to have them as another game on speedrun.com
PS: If you want mod just contact me.
I did a couple of Final Fantasy (Famicom) runs and got a proper PB, 7:25 (Leaderboard: http://finalfantasyspeedruns.wikidot.com/wiki:final-fantasy ) The estimate shouldn't change and stay 15 minutes because dying to the final boss has relatively high chances (~30%) to happen and costs close to 4 minutes
I retested doing distribution again and it didn't work. Either I did something specific to make it work or just used a wrong savefile. disregard this argument.
You all know that the 100% category of Vice City has been split in between Ingame 100% and "do everything that gives percentage" since duping was discovered. Everyone is agreeing that "do everything that gives percentage" is the main 100% category (since the other one is boring), this category allows duping any missions you want if it's faster than doing it the regular way, as long as you pass all 153 objectives of 100% (example Jury Fury dupe or Taxi fares dupe)
With the recent Green Pepper/Japanese version discovery it is possible to get the percentage (and the asset completed counter and change the savefile name) from Cherry Poppers without selling any icecreams. But you do not get the asset completed cutscenes nor the reward, a money marker which gives $3000 every 24h.
It was also found that by starting Distribution during the later part of Cabmageddon will somehow start parts of a Chooper Checkpoint Challenge, and I believe than once we'll try out every missions combination (all thousands of them) we might get percentage from a third mission or objective in a similar way than CP skip, the mission would still be doable and the next mission (in the mission tree) may or may not be unlocked.
I feel like this should be reserved for a "glitched 100%" category that already exist (ingame 100%).
Feel free to post your opinions or anything you want to add to the discussion here (100% runners or not).
#NODRAMA
PS: I'm not making a poll until people discuss this. And CP skip is still allowed until a consensus is found on the matter
mods should adjust the final run time if it's misplitted.
I would say option 3 or 2 (but I never played the game on PC)
so is "classic% ending C" good or not?
I don't think "classic% ending C" should be used, I think we can all agree that "classic%" is a bad name and that mimicking old GTA feature is stupid. Classic% is technically "Good ending (or Ending C), no missions fail skip, no taxi warp" which isn't any%. But category names should be shorten and even though I don't like "classic%" it's the name under which the category is known and there's no point changing it.
Should we get rid of Ending C, I don't think so, I'm a pseudo Vice City runner so I'll talk about what I know. The All Missions in Vice City tried to mimic an older GTA (GTA3) and in my opinion did it poorly. should the "all missions that change the savefile name" rules be changed to "all missions with a mission passed screen" ? Of course not this would invalidated all current runs and make it another category, can someone run All Missions with "all missions with a mission passed screen" rule ? yes he can, nothing is stopping him except the lack of interest and competition. there are 28 Classic% runs on speedrun.com and it's the most ran GTA V category, it should remain as it is. Feel free to run "Any% no missions fail skip, no taxi warp" for GTA V but i don't think there will much competition in this category because it's just a "Any% NMS" run were the runner didn't use taxis.
seems like someone fucked up
nothing would change for trilogy runs cause trilogy any% start with GTA3 and I don't think anyone started trilogy 100% with Vice City
I think a tool like this is needed, would having the page online make it editable by commentators ? (for example, zoton was kinda tired and/or busy during that bingo race and didn't keep up with objective completion, instead of eidgod telling him to edit the sheet he could himself and some kind of autorefresh would update it on stream)
Also I think it can improved with having each red/blue/yellow/gree rectangles being a quarter of each tiles. upper/bottom left/right.
I agree, disco lights on non-NG+ runs trigger me so much
I'm pretty sure speedrun.com can have the exact same categories and stuff than the wikidot leaderboard
I feel like there should be 3:2 layouts for GBA games, single player and 3 players race (Metroid: Zero Mission) Otherwise, I think they look good
I really enjoyed the marathon, I loved being part of it with my 2 VC race (even if I suck and finish last on both). There were a lot of good runs, most GTA games not ran last time (GTA2, Advance, VCS and CW) were run this time, that's nice. I think there was a good ratio of GTA vs non-GTA games. Layouts were even better than last time (GG ffzZotonFace ), except for GTA III bingo, it seems like the bingo card was wider than the VC so it ended up being smaller. Maybe limiting bingo to 3 players would allow to have a bigger bingo card on stream.
Regarding the schedule (I know that scheduling is hard and even more difficult when you need to deal with people availability), I felt like the two 100% runs were too close to each other and that the last day shouldn't be 1 GTA and 3 non-GTA. Also GTA III All Missions or 100% would have been nice but the GTA3 runners rather submit to ESA than to GTAMarathon Kappa
For next the next GTAMarathon (GTAMarathon2015 DLC Edition), we might have to find new GTA-clone to be run (hit&run, Driver PL, RDR and True Crime were ran at both marathon), maybe we'll need to reach out GTA-clone runner ourself, for example Ouga probably could have done a WatchDogs this time if we thought about it. (the fact that he's always in #gta make it even worse FailFish )
Finally, next time we will need to remember to contact SRL to be on whitelist (15 days before the marathon)
If you would like your marathon to be whitelisted, please PM a moderator, and/or send an e-mail to the SRL e-mail address at staff@speedrunslive.com.
ffzZotonFace is nice i like DonaldFace but i think most people won't recognize Donald Love :(
something similar to ffzUltraCop could also be a nice emote
First, I don't think Classic% should be the main GTA V category, it should be Any% or Any% no Mission Failed Skip.
Also, taxi warps don't really save enough time to justify making an "Any% no Mission Failed Skip, no Taxi Warps", and i don't see the point of forbidding taxi warps (I use them when it's useful in Vice City). A "Good Ending" category however, is a thing that have been around for decades in other speedrunning community.
Combining both taxi warps and good ending, making just enough differences to make me feel like it could be a valid category (still has a shitty name tho Kappa )
Back in december, I had a route that involved getting a rocket rampage replay during Payday for Ray, dupe and fail ED then get 30k rocket ammo with the safehouse trick. I don't remember the route but I gave it to Vegeto and he improved it and tested it to be slower than good ED
[06:16:29] <Jeremie> ok timed its about 40-50s slower compared to a run with a 75s ED [06:19:51] <Jeremie> Payday For Ray->first phone->RL replay->2 phone->3 phone->M16 rampage->4phone->StS->arms shortage->grenade rampage->ED->ED->Cartel Cruiser->Store in Garage->30k Ammo->Liberator->Gates->Ak47 Pickup->gate [06:19:58] <Jeremie> that was roughly my timing method
But you can try rampage starting Waka-Gashira Wipeout instead of getting 30k rockets and pickup rockets later for SAM (thing I didn't consider at the time)
Earleys: according to the internet, you can jump from Cortez's yacht onto an other boat and reach the mainland. and if you enter another vehicle while on land the mission will fail
playing with a controller is of course possible and allowed, but proper aiming is almost impossible with it
I think the best solution is to use Y-axis sensitivity fix ( http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Vice_City#Y-axis_sensitivity_fix ), you'll need to lower the sensibility in the menu at the start of every run but it's only a few seconds and shouldn't matter until you get insanely good
