Hey guys, been looking around online, but there is a lot to choose from. If anyone has any suggestions/thoughts on emulators that can handle multiple Nintendo consoles I'd appreciate it. Mostly looking for the older, pre-3D consoles including handhelds, but the more the merrier. Ease of use and accuacy to original hardware would be good to have. Being acceptable for speedruns is a bonus, but not needed, if I do decide to run anything, I will likely get a recommened emulator for that game. Just want to try a bunch of stuff that I missed out on first time round. I had a SNES and a GB as a kid but less than a dozen games between them

Thanks guys

I like watching speedruns and am fascinated by the process and the skills involved. What puts me off speedrunning as a hobby though is the long hours of grind and run attempts. I'd only want to run stuff if I would get enjoyment out of it, I wouldn't want runs to become a chore. I like to vary what I play and though I get hooked on some games for a long time, I try not to.

Here's some thoughts about how I could get involved and maybe you guys have suggestions of your own.

Sonic 2 - One of my favourite games ever, I've come back to it over and over since playing it as a kid. Runs don't look that long if you get good at it

Outer Worlds - Coming out soon, I know I am gonna be playing it a ton, Figure I wouldn't run it, but I could help find glitches, optimizations, routes etc - How do I get into this?

Random bad games - Awful block at GDQ is always great fun, and often the games are short to run, I figure this is one option for me to get into running. Anyone got any suggestions I could play with active communities.

Recruit me for a game (as runner or glitch hunter) - I have xbox one/360 snes mini, switch, android phone and a bad PC (so no games that require a high end PC please).

Glitch hunting appeals to me, I have applied for jobs as a game tester, maybe glitch hunting could help me, or at least be practice.

Found a simple skip, checked the few vids on this site and no one is using it. After you get the flashlight, I see everyone going to the bedroom to be told by the AI that they cannot see what's through the door, cus they aren't ready. But going to the room is not needed. As soon as you pick up the flashlight, you can quit the simulation. you will then have the light and can go straight to the AI shutdown button. Gotta be worth a few seconds

Please help - Need examples of physics exploits/glitches The crazier the better.

For some fiction I am writing as a hobby, looking for inspiration. Can be examples from specific games or broad categories of tricks used. Basically anything that abuses physics to do impossible or absurd things. I am thinking something like the multiple grenade trick in halo to do huge jumps.

I am trying to get into speedrunning, but I am pretty much only gonna be doing so on consoles at the moment. Wondering if there is others out there with Xboxs and gold subscriptions who fancy learning and running one or more or the free games each month. Could be fun going through it together and seeing games that we might not otherwise try. Perhaps even have a race at the end of the free period (though I am still new and not sure how races work) As to what to run, could do it like the speedrun weekly in the tournament forum and vote on a game, or just run what you like from the four on offer and everyone support each other whatever they choose, perhaps agreeing on a category to all aim for. I like the latter better (gives more individual choice) but open to suggestions A bonus is that if you sign up with rewards.xbox.com you get rewards for playing the free games for 10 hours 3 months in a row. So this could actually end up getting you free Xbox store credit.

Anyone up for this? from the 16th Superhot and Quantum conundrum go free with gold, both look like they have an active community and look a nice short length to run. I would be interested in running either.

Edit: retracted erroneous comment. Console are represented well in speedruns, apparently just not the games I've been looking at.

Always trying to broaden my gaming horizons and learn about game design, recently that has meant a deep dive into tabletop RPGs, boardgames, online games, eSports and making games. Speedruns are interesting to me as a way of dissecting games and learning how they tick. I think it is incredible how some strats come about by basically reverse engineering/deciphering the coding of the game. Respect to the people that find these strategies.

I think I will give some speedrunning a go. When I had less money, I often played games in unusual ways or with self imposed rules, just to get more out of them, so not entirely unfamiliar with playing games in different ways to intended. I'm not a super skilled gamer, so not gonna speedrun stuff that simply requires you git good, more into exploits and optimization.

I had a question to ask. what do you do if no-one speedruns a game you'd like to run? do you just do it anyway and see if you encourage others to compete? Been trying to practice costume quest 2, but there is like two runs from years ago. Maybe I should pick something newer/more popular. But I have come this far, might keep trying to at least post a decent time. Any% record is 1:15 and so far managed to reach final boss in under two hours with a sloppy, mess around run. I have some different ideas to the other guy that ran it. With practice and planning I think I can get close at least. Even repetitively playing, it is a fun, lighthearted game, I recommend it to anyone wanting to give it a try
