I think adding a misc category will end up cluttering up the misc tab - since, as you point out, awful meme-categories are commonplace in SM64. A bunch of inactive categories that at one point was popular has their own site, atwiki: https://www31.atwiki.jp/sm64/

My best proposition would be linking to the atwiki pages in resources, one for each "misc", that way no one is confused about it being in Japanese.

Giving power to pointless categories isn't per say an issue, but I see no valid reason to add things that have less than 10 runs in the past 4-5 years. If people really wish for these categories to be a thing, then that should be shown more in how many people have done runs of it. And if it's because people are unaware they exist, that imo proves the point that they're pointless categories, since it's not like that leaderboard on srcom is the only valid source of finding out about runs.

Game Name: Super Mario 64 System: Nintendo 64 Category: 120 star Gameplay Estimate: 1h55m Ending/Bonus Estimate: None Possible Donation Incentives: None Sample run video: Description: Super Mario 64 is one of the most well-known speedruns, and for a good reason. Technical movement display throughout the entire run with very little RNG and downtime throughout the run, it's just about 2 hours of constant gameplay with interesting routes for the stars, and a large variety of glitches. Not much else to say about the game itself, what hasn't been said is very likely already known.

Game Name: Mario Kart 64 System: Nintendo 64 Category: All Cups (skips) Gameplay Estimate: 35m Ending/Bonus Estimate: 2-5m (can show off a few fun things not shown in the run) Possible Donation Incentives: Bid-war between Yoshi/Peach/Toad (all work in the run) Sample run video: http://www.twitch.tv/flippy_o/c/5271243 Description: Mario Kart 64 is one of the classic Nintendo games that many still have fond memories of to this day and recite as one of their favorite games. Lookin aside popularity, this game has a good depth in gameplay, and getting to a top level can take thousands of hours. Although the time trials community is the original MK64 community, the speedrunning community has pushed some new life into the game with the speedrun categories. The skips category is very interesting due to abusing items and the opponent drivers to skip parts of tracks that would not be possible to do in time trials. The run is short, fun, and although it has quite a bit of RNG, on average it shouldn't matter too much on the final run.

A bit late with feedback, but I thought I had nothing really this year, but while reading through everything, I'd like to point out

Schedule: Being waaaay too far ahead at all times. My run on the 5th was 9:30am according to the scedule at 2am on the 5th. I went to bed, set my alarm for 8 so I would have time to wake up and get to the venue, practice for a while, and then be ready. By sheer luck, I woke up earlier due to the heat and decided to check the schedule just in case. Saw my run was pushed back to 8:00am, which was when I had planned to wake up. There's no way for me to foresee this big of a pushback. There must be some way to combat the schedule being pushed way too far ahead. Being pushed back is actually in that sense, better, since runners are more likely to be prepared. Last year it seemed perfect, schedule was generally kept on point, not ahead or behind, but this year.. Not so much.

Venue: Great venue this year. I thought 2014 had a great venue, it was a lot brighter and better kitchen area, but this years area was big with a lot of space, and a lot of things in the main hall. It was awesome in my opinion, the heat wasn't unbearable even if the AC wasn't the greatest, just because of the large room. I also enjoyed the way the streams were set up this year, since you felt more prone to watch, where as last year it felt like a different zone to be at the stream. A lot more casual this year in that sense, and it was nice. It should be kept casual to attend, it feels nice that you can sit down, ask questions to runners on couch and just have fun. And also, in terms of people saying it was annoying as a runner on couch, I think it was fine. Noise can be annoying, but it wasn't a problem at all. Every now and then, sure, but I had no problems getting used to a little background noise. I agree space was wasted in the "mafia room" and Balder, but then again it was in the end nice to have a room with nothing, just in case it was needed.

Other: I didn't notice the trash as much. I guess it might've been more during the night where I generally wasn't around, but yeah the best thing to do is just make reminders. Have more signs around? Something I think people generally leave out is what Naegleria reflected. It felt like everyone had fun with each other this year (not that it didn't happen previous years), everything being in one room really tightened the bonds, and the other events going on (bowling, tournaments, lake dinner, etc.) And yeah, in general I enjoyed this year. It's hard to say which of these two years I've attended was more fun all-round, because both were a great experience. Sad to see a lot of my friends I met last year couldn't attend this year, but great to see all the new people this year :)

In conclusion: Change nothing about the event that affects the feeling, as a speedrunner it's the perfect environment to be in. Subtle change could be nice, but only the things people have complained a lot about. Hope to see you all next year!

Sounds fun, I'd be up for joining if everything is set up and ready to go without me doing any work from home ;)

In regards of my Mario Kart 64, I've had two de-rust runs which were both in the mid/low 30 minutes, so I'm definitely still in shape for that. I will do a lot of practice on consistency and stuff if the games passed through.

For Crash Team Racing, my two de-rust runs have been high 55 minute runs, although with a lot of dumb mistakes I just need to practice a bit more for and I won't really do them in runs.

Summary, I'm up-to-date on my pbs in both games, even if I haven't pb'd in a long time :)
