Depending on how long the sum of the duration of all the cutscenes is this does sound like a reasonable thing to do.

Regarding the leaderboards: if the duration is always exactly the same, you could just time it and subtract that from the current times.

Sounds cool, I'll probably join in. Been doing bodyweight workouts for the past nine months and might want to incorporate some weights as well. In return I can also show people how to get started doing an efficient bodyweight workout at home for everybody who has no gym around/doesn't have the money/doesn't want to go.

Because of recent dropouts we had to make a few changes to the schedule ( http://www.esamarathon.com/schedule ).

Changelog:

Removed:

  • Beyond Oasis
  • Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Pokemon Yellow
  • Titan Souls

Added:

  • Crash Bandicoot
  • A Story About My Uncle
  • Fable: The Lost Chapters

Category Changes:

  • Tekken III to Unlock All Endings (1 Round, Medium)

Completely intended ¤cough¤:

  • Super Mario 64 now starts at exactly 8pm on the last day. What.

Wednesday is probably bad, because of the Bumperball event. I'd suggest thursday, since the stream already ends on friday. Tuesday might be ok as well, don't think it's too early.

The (hopefully) final version of the schedule has been released. After getting personal confirmations from the vast majority of runners (thank you all for your responses) we removed all dropouts and made some tiny changes to the morning of the last day.

It's just a wide open space where people sleep on the floor. Nothing much to it. If you didn't order an air mattress you should bring some kind of camping mat just to have something between yourself and the ground.

Make sure to bring ear plugs or at least have in-ears you can listen to music with while falling asleep. It's hard to completely eliminate snoring when dozens of people sleep at the same time.

The schedule will definitely change a bit still as we have to make adaptations to availability and people's preferences.

But at the same time we unfortunately can't build it around a side-event where more than 20 runners are attending. So keep in mind whichever time we choose there could still be some collateral with upcoming schedule changes.

However I'll keep this in mind once a time and date is selected and will try to circumvent that.

@TFC: Thanks for letting us know. What does that mean for the Borderlands 2 4-Player Co-Op?

Interested!

@Arctice: Ideally, yes. It also depends a lot on when you played your game for the last time. If that was two years ago, you probably should be getting back into it.

@FingersTehHand: That's a very game-/leaderboard- specific question. In this case I'd say just give us an update in the thread if the estimate changes. We'll see everything else from your times/streams. I'll also keep it in mind and will ask you if anything is unclear.

@Chfou: Offline runs in terrible quality and then uploading them, very slowly?

GermanyFatzke9 years ago

Just a heads up: If your comment does not include any restrictions on availability we will assume that you are there for the whole event and don't need to post that here. Thanks!

@china: As it says in the first post: "If you are submitting races, relays, co-op games or anything else with multiple people, all involved runners must submit a form including a list of the other participants."

We can still decide on who will race later on, but every possible racer needs to make a separate submission for the game.

Unknown
GermanyFatzke9 years ago

@CartinaCow: Just submit it as a race (with all partners mentioned). If things don't work out for you or the other people in the race you can just contact one of us.

@DanJTKT: You don't have to. But if you do you'll have the option of either playing on the PC provided or your own laptop, as eidgod said. Apart from that it's usually not a bad idea to bring your laptop in order to be able to practice anytime you want. There will be a PC station with a few PCs provided specifically for practicing (I least I hope so, just kill me if that's not the case this year), but they might be occupied by other people.

Unknown
GermanyFatzke9 years ago

@Zet: Submit it as an extra category.

@DanJTKT: We're not considering the current runner's skill when making the first cut. And here I quote the OP: "Pitching games that you have not yet learnt or mastered is OK. But you need to show steady (weekly) progress after the point that your suggestion passes the first cut." In the end it needs to be decided on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that if multiple people submit the same category and it's not a race we will usually pick the person who's better at the game. But as a general rule: Don't hold back submissions because you think you're not good enough. A lot can happen in the upcoming weeks and months.

I'd prefer GTAO, but the player limitation might be an issue.

There is a very clear line between an autosplitter/a checklist and things like a program checking for things you can't actually observe without doing it in the game and therefore giving you an advantage. The former does not actually help you to get a good time (and please don't try to argue that they do, it's silly) while the latter is just blatantly cheating. Usually these kinds of things need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Pidgeonholing everything just avoids a proper discussion and leaves a lot of people unsatisfied.

However, pitpo brings up a good point. There is no way to actually check if somebody used these kinds of things in a run. It might be obvious for the few applications it has available right now, but might be less so for things which could be found in the future. Looking for "suspicious behaviour" or making false accusations can lead to witch huntings in no time, we need to be careful about that.

Since this is about the wording of the rules I don't think leaving it completely unadressed is a good idea either. Therefore I vote for #2, even though I think rephrasing it is probably a good idea.

Here we go, better late than never!

Special shoutouts (in alphabetical order so nobody is favored) to:

ADAM: ADAM. Crazy bastard, nothing more to add. When's MDK?

Alko: For your continous and laughable hate against the superior force that is Upper Franconia.

AMVX: Our quest is now to get Pariah into #ESA16. <3 Appreciate it mate.

bang & SoeZee: You're rad.

Edenal: You're the man.

eidgod: For still joining me on the 20+ hour train trips even though you did not get a game into the marathon. And thanks for not creating two bingo goals that you knew I would instantly fail... oh wait.

eTholon: Magic. Boardgames. Pizza. In that order. What would we've done without you living in Skövde? Thanks especially for co-organizing the Sealed tournament and throwing a bunch of your own cards at me while yelling "LET'S MAKE A DECK" multiple times.

flicky: Best other small bearded dude who is also enthusiastic about beer. This time people confused me with you surprisingly often (like twice), which lead to some funny situations. We seriously need to meet up more often. Special thanks for the tasting of precious Estonian beer during the first night.

Gaël: Really cool that you joined us for a post-ESA dinner in Gothenburg and for witnessing that otherworldly experience as I got a FREE beer in a swedish pub.

Lighnat0r: You brought STROOPWAFELS. And you got RECOIL working. MVP?

Literally everybody who signed my birthday card: Dude, nice. Seriously. Thank you all. It'll get a special place.

Lysteria: Thanks for introducing me to good tea and apparently having a pot ready every single time I joined. I will probably still continue to prefer coffee, but it was worth a try. Also had tons of fun learning/talking about/playing Magic.

Maral: Post-ESA dinner in Gothenburg was really cool, glad that somehow happened. Thanks for showing us around the city while continously mentioning hookers and brothels. There's just one thing: you need to get your church trivia on an acceptable level, man.

Mhmd_FVC: Thanks for being a dank memelord and also the 2nd sidekick during S' Triple Bingo run.

Mobiusman: For bringing in the cards that made the Sealed tournament possible. Thanks.

Niss3: ESAGame was a really cool idea. Too bad I was a scrub and not able to finish it. The best part was when I saw the coordinates and went "Oh..that's probably San Marino" before looking them up. Pretty close at least! Also huge props to you and Crippe for dealing with Skövde and making the event happen.

Nord: I hope Recoil and Unreal are pretty soon. Also joined every single board game that was happening.

oasiz: I HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR ASS GETTING WHOOPED ON DECK 17. THAT WAS UNREAL. <3

Pac: Sorry for not actually making it to the lake at least once. I will try to redeem myself next year. Special thanks for organizing the birthday card!

RoboSparkle: Probably the best person to be at the donation station during my Unreal run. Turns out moustache-trashtalk can get you even across the worst hickups and weird map softlocks. Thank you for that. Also for whiskey.

S: Thank you for being S and for letting me and Mhmd be S idekick S during your Bingo run!

The Tech Crew: I could drop a wall of text and it wouldn't suffice the amount of love you all deserve. Massive props for putting in all this work during and also prior to the event. You know who you are, you know what you did. Thanks.

The Americans: Thank you all for making the long trip over the great pond and enhancing the whole event!

tyriounet: But tea is pretty good I guess. And the bingo sheet was really enjoyable. also: Thanks for not creating two bingo goals that you knew I would instantly fail... oh wait.

zwajken: Good fun at the barbeque! Sorry I missed you at first, but thank god for being able to edit posts.

Sorry if I missed anybody. D:

DendiFace.
