Seriously, it was a mistake from a year ago and I had literally no idea on whether the TAS was actually optimized. Back then I was a bad speedrunner, and I don't even do speedrunning anymore, but I check up on speedrunners and looked here to see that people are still causing full on flame wars. That TAS was, as far as I know, the best TAS at the time, and the TAS that beat the human record was not made until a decent amount of time after the debate had started. This game has not been active in forever, the last actual run was submitted 2 months ago and there were probably a total of 5 active people on the forums before the youtubeman situation. After the post on reddit, the forums absolutely exploded with back-and-forth flaming between each party. And keep in mind I was not the sole decision-maker here: there were other people that I talked to during this that also believed that it was a fake run, sped up in some way, or something. I hope this cleared things up. TL;DR: Mistake on my part caused forums to blow up, people are still posting about it to this day, and I've learned my ways PS youtubeman: I've already said this to you before after the debate originally ended, but I am sorry for the misunderstandings of the past. The r/Speedrun post you made was still getting attention to this day, and I forgive you for it. PS everyone else: The mistake was noticed and the run was published months ago, and I have learned for myself that the run was real, so there is literally no need to keep this up. Just saying.
ImDangerous20 and I believe Warpedclip's 5:05 WR to be fake. We aren't saying this because Dangerous wants to be at the top 3, we actually have some evidence. <unrelated> The author of this movie according to the FCEUX .fm2 format and the .fm2 provided is "warppy". </unrelated> Let's get to the first part.
1-1 and 4-1 (at least) have some very weird inputs after the flag that appear to be from a TAS. You may look at all the inputs here: https://pastebin.com/gyHJuPGR 4-2 has a weird Blazit setup that doesn't seem to be possible by a human. Also, SLB Blazit has only been performed about 5-10 times ever, so for someone to just randomly get it in a run after the game has been dead forever is suspicious.
Tell me if you find any other discrepancies, in either the video or the .fm2.
I'm gonna be working on an attempt to find a better clip. Won't be top priority (I have tons of other projects), but maybe if I can find one, it will allow more time to be saved from the 0-1 IL
https://imgur.com/MatpwLV L+R is off Also, if you look in TAS Editor, you can see that the button presses look natural If you look at the "Record Count" in FCEUX it's 0
Not actually a retime at all. Just a placeholder time. I couldn't retime because of no video. Will try to retime real quick tho.
1 Coin is possible. The only thing stopping us from 0 Coin is a coin on top of a block wall in 1-1. Wait, a wall? Couldn't we just wall jump? It looks way too big to be fully cleared with a wall jump, so we can rule that out. We can also clip through walls, which seems like the only way. A corner clip wouldn't work, we'd still collect the coin. Our only way to do it is a wall clip. Anyone up to try and find a setup?
A new route has been found that saves about 1 and a half minutes off the previous route. Shoutouts to Roy's chat for figuring this out. Note: This requires an FDS to get Minus World Ending, so WR runs will basically have to be played on FDS, NES with Everdrive/PowerPak or an emulator with FDS support from now on. Here's the new route, which could lead to a sub 6 (at least, in TAS):
- 1-1
- 1-2 (Clip through the wall in any way, go to -1)
- -1
- -2
- -3 From here, you do worlds/levels in any order you want. Here are the ones you need to do:
- 2-1
- 3-1
- 5-1
- 5-2
- 6-1
- 6-2 A good route that makes most fails early (3-4 minutes) in the run would do world 5 first, and then world 6, and then do world 2 or 3 in any order you want. With this new route, and potentially every strat known in All Coin Heavens, sub 6 MAY be possible. The question is: Who will do it? The WR as of me posting this is a 6:22 by RoyLGamer. Will post updates in the replies if there are other WRs, as I'm watching his stream right now.
I'm planning on getting a NES soon. (Nothing to do with the input file rule, though). I have a question, though. Would an unofficial multicart (I mean, the 1 in 500 carts and 1 in 140 carts and stuff) be fine to run, or do I need an official game or official multicart (like the SMB/Duck Hunt)? If I have to get a real game cart, it's fine, but it'd be a little less money I would have, and I'm poor :P
Could save about 1 minute overall throughout the entire run over mouse menuing (at least Darpey's mouse menuing lol)
"Start as Small Fire" categories (Warpless / Any%).
Setting 0756 to 02 (Game Genie code for this is ZAIATY).
Mostly to give new runners an easy category to run, or to allow some people used to playing Mario 1 Warpless (or maybe new SMB runners using Fire in Any%?)
"One Warp" category (Small-Fire Full-Game is basically a Small Fire version of this, although you use the slower 4-2 warp route in that because you need to do Small-Fire in 1-4 (unless Small Fire in 5-4 is allowed? Mods/community, should we allow that?) parenthesis-ception lol)
If you have other ideas, post them in the thread
It's more of a Mavpole setup, but whatever. First, you wanna do fast accel first frame entering the pipe. The rest can be played the same, until the pipe. At this point, you'll want to do 2 frames of left in a specific spot in mid-air. After this, you'll want to press left, and then press A for 9 frames, on a specific part of the top staircase. For 3 of those frames, you still wanna be holding left. For the rest, go to right. Then, finally, do D50 inputs.
Loopie, Xein, and me have both confirmed that this run is fake. So, what should we do about it? I'm thinking NO run from Youtubeman should be submitted without a movie file from now on (and split files for categories with splits, although those are quite easily faked too!) If we should do something more extreme, like remove all his runs or completely ban him from the leaderboards, let us know in a reply.
I'll do this like a One-Warp category. 1-1: Probably gonna be the same as the 31.830 1-1 Fire Luigi TAS. 1-2: Take the tube in 1.2 to go to the flag pole 1-3: Optimallllll 1-4: Smol Fire Merio (do 2-1 to 4-1 like optimal Warpless [and with many swags throughout]. This TAS could be reused in an upcoming Warpless TAS) 4-2: Warp to 8-1 (8-1 to 8-4 will probably be swagged out quite a bit btw. Maybe a fire kill at the end of 8-4 if I don't have to press left for it at all, or else just normal Small Mario strats to save the frames)
Didn't even take me too long to make lol I used the climb strat that Jonny originally used when he started Fire Luigi, which could possibly be faster than Loopie's WR strat, but is very risky. It does a 1-block space fast accel (and it barely works lol) on the mushroom block to regain speed faster, does 2 fast accels at the start of the run and after entering the final room, and fast accels off the fire block to regain speed faster. Ends with 341 on the timer (compared to 338 for current WR.)
Run was witnessed live (verified by referee Kappa this time, it's not todd rogers). Once Jonny highlights the run, accurate retime and video will be added.
I am an active speedrunner that knows how to TAS, and I have enough experience with video editors to detect splicing (and make spliced videos myself!) I will make "Moderator Test" videos showcasing spliced and TAS runs, with different difficulties for new moderators, or for experienced moderators that know how to detect everything!
I think sub 5:20 (in Any%), sub 23.5 (in 1-1 Fire Luigi) and sub-21:30 (in Warpless) will be more thoroughly checked than anything below it, and WRs will take some time to be accepted (at least for new runners and people with previous WRs that have been proven not to be spliced, or WRs that have been streamed and known to not have been a movie playback) due to suspicion.
I am also good at retiming runs. My 36.193 and 35.740 were self-retimed, and I have also helped with retiming some of JonnyBoy's TASes, etc. I have a frame conversion spreadsheet on Google Docs that you can use to retime runs. If anyone is interested, I will post a link.
I will put WR runs by non-trusted players through a spectrogram to detect splicing, and also analyze transitions frame-by-frame (and places that will usually be spliced). I will also try to check for things that people wouldn't normally do on WR pace (such as doing fast accel, backwards walljump, etc.), to check if the run was actually a TAS played back on recording/stream.
If evidence is found, I will contact other mods (JonnyBoy, Loopie, etc.) with the evidence I found, and see if they agree that the run is cheated based off of the evidence provided. After mods agree that the evidence is true, the run will be removed from the leaderboards.
I'm also friends with JonnyBoy (we've got into arguments on stream before tho, but he's apologized since the last major one), another moderator of the category, and current Any% WR holder.
If you guys don't think I will be a good moderator, that's fine, you can decline my application. But I will be glad to moderate, if you guys do accept me as a moderator.
Thanks, Epicness1o1/epicness_1o1/EpicSpeedrunning [i have too many usernames]
Normally, with my good PC, I'd record using OBS. Usually, I record about 60FPS on 4000+Kbps, but that's never going to happen on this laptop. I've been using FCEUX's built in AVI capture feature, but that requires me to use a workaround to get Super Luigi Bros. to work that will not be accepted in the future. If there's any way for this specific feature (which has been working fine!) to be used with Nestopia, let me know :P Other than that, is there any good OBS settings (or any other good recording software) with a good balance between performance and how many frames the video drops? For computer specs: Intel Celeron N3060 4GB of RAM 32GB SSD (if the video files can also be small, that's a bonus!) Intel HD Graphics (pc doesn't wanna tell me any more lol)
After doing a bit of research (and I mean 10 minutes), I made this. I know someone with an 8:51 time that I want to get on the leaderboards. They have a SRC account, but they haven't submitted the run yet. Is there any way to let the admins know that it isn't my run, and to assign the run to another account? Etc. putting the run in the description
