Calibrate it via the Windows tools. On Win 10 it's something like Control Panel > Devices and Printers > <Whatever your controller is listed as> > Right click, Properties > Should be self-explanatory from there.

Dolphin has its own controller calibration when you set a controller up on it, which may be why your controller is working on that and nothing else. Clearly the fact that it works in Dolphin indicates that it's a configuration issue and not a hardware issue, so the controller itself is fine.

I believe this was answered earlier in the Discord server and yeah there's no problem with it at all

If the game can be ran on official hardware and not show signs of performing differently, then I don't see a reason to ban its usage. I'll ask the other moderators who may be more knowledgeable about console usage whether there are any inherent differences here and get back to you.

Check out the forum section for your preferred game to see if there's a Discord server, join up and get involved. Ask questions, watch runs, learn how it all works. Much easier to get started in speedrunning when you have the proper support from others.

What is a leaderboard: A database

What is on a leaderboard: Data

That's at a very basic level, but it's pretty much what I believe. I prefer leaderboards to be akin to encyclopedias that pertain to speedruns of that game. All the existing times are tracked, all the resources hopefully in one place.

It's a good idea in principle but I also believe this will result in a whole lot of extra work for moderators, whilst many runners are just not going to bother to remain clued up on the rules and standards, resulting in a much higher proportion of runs being rejected for frivolous reasons. This would need careful consideration and application to work effectively.

It's also not really clear about which rules are really necessary. Two immediately jump out at me:

"-Capture the entire emulator window, including the border."

"-Your run should begin from (and include) system reset or power cycle."

I can't speak for other games/series, but in Classic Sonic we used to go by the first listed rule as it was a generally effective method of ensuring that a movie file wasn't being played. Nowadays it's been superseded by the second rule which is easier for runners to adhere to whilst achieving the same result, so it makes little sense to include both rules. If anything it only adds an extra rejection criteria, for no good reason.

Very easy to speedrun, though. You can complete it any time you want, and there are an almost unlimited number of ways to do it.

Cheers bud, stay in touch and good luck

EnglandDrakodan7 years ago

Your best bet is to post those sorts of offers in the forums for those specific games; this is the general website forum which isn't frequently used by quite a few notable people.

By posting in the game forums, you'll be much more likely to get strong submissions.

To be fair he made a good point, he just put it very badly. I'll always advocate for better verification standards and no self-verification from moderators.

That said, I think he's completely oblivious to the fact that considerable traffic is generated towards your stream from the Streams page. If you want exposure on this site, just stream.

"I think that not having a category is the reason it's not run as much, not the other way around."

This has been demonstrated time after time, in multiple games, to be patently false.

Categories are set up in the hope that people will run them, and those runs just never materialise. Categories exist to track existing runs, the alternative is not preferable.

You don't want to go down the rabbit hole of what's 'natural'.

Not just in this game, but any game. Trust me, it's not worth trying to defend that avenue.

Why do people only care about showing "WRs"??

I guess we should also change it so that all participants need to stop if someone wants to take a break during a race, huh?

"I'm not letting the run back onto the leaderboard until I get proof, whether it's a TAS or a human playthrough by a trusted player / mod, or maybe a segmented run that someone makes."

This is NOT how the burden of proof works.

Speaking as someone with extensive experience moderating some of the biggest games in speedrunning, this is completely the wrong way to tackle this issue. The burden of proof does not lie with the runner to show their run is legitimate, it lies with the moderators to prove that it's ILlegitimate, and this has not been satisfied. Your argument basically boils down to "It's faster than the TAS" and "Loopie says so"

Last I checked, having a faster time than what you have straight-up admitted is an unoptimised TAS is not grounds for deciding that someone has cheated, nor is an argument from authority. Loopie's opinion, whilst it could be well-informed, is not infallible, and he's not above needing to provide evidence to back up his claims. Giving someone free license to act as the dictator of a board with no need to provide any justification is gonna drive people away real fast, and is just not workable for reasons that should be self-evident.

Youtubeman has provided a direct comparison video showing how and where his run saves time over the TAS, and your response is just "It's fake." That's not a response, it's not even an argument. You should be able to demonstrate WHY it's fake with data like the framerate being too high, or Luigi moving too many pixels per frame, but none of that is present here. There's only blind assertions followed by abuse of power whenever anyone dares speak out against you. If you cannot conclusively and concisely demonstrate why a run is fake, you do not have the right to remove it from the leaderboards on those grounds.

From what I can see, all four of you mod this ROMhack exclusively, and honestly all I'm seeing here is a bunch of guys tripping on their first taste of power.
