Just thought I would make this post because I am cleaning up the boards again and separating console and emu with different rules and I remember some people had some points related to redundant categories. If we can come to a consensus which categories are redundant I can clean them up a bit. Thanks in advance!

Georgia, USADrMaxtermind4 years ago

Unfortunately because there were so many categories that were adopted before by past moderators of the game there will be a lot of redundancies for sure that people submit the same run to 3 different categories. If the community can agree to which categories to drop, I am fine with slimming them down now that all the birthday and family events are done and I can finally get the rules finalized for the umpteenth time

Ok since I was mentioned in the original post let me try to clear a few things up. First off, I have never targetted anyone in my time modding this game or the other games that I mod for. I do however follow the rules that are clearly stated when submitting runs, which state the following "- Emulated runs MUST be ran on PSXfin/jin." This particular rule has been around for quite a while at this point and I have never heard any complaints about the process nor the rules for the game in general, until now. In addition Bling, you also run Demak, another game that I mod for and yet I have not tried to stonewall any of your runs there. So why is there some animosity toward me and unfounded allegations of bullying? Looking at your submission video it is very clear that you open up PCSXR and never close it because the screen with the PS1 startup pops up immediately. There was not effort to open psxjin, which would have shown up on the screen just like PCSXR does. Because this does not happen and we can see your cursor, which you have captured on your broadcasting server we can conclude that in fact you did not switch to psxjiin, but rather ran the game on PCSXR. There were also no other resets that I saw after the first one at the beginning of the run. So again I am confused at unfounded claims that I am out to get you, when the evidence for why the run was rejected is clear as day in the video that you submitted. I even offered you help in the rejection comment to get you set up on pcsxjin and fin, and yet you still come back at me with some strange aggression. Seems to me if you were really tired, you would not waste your time on angry forum posts, when they can better be spent on getting even better Survivor Times.

If you read my explanation for rejecting the run, which I did provide when I rejected it in the first place I told you how the PAL version mismeasures the IGT for this game therefore the final time for the run is a misrepresentation of the actual speedrun IGT for the game. Also, I explained that the moderators have never had PAL as an option for this game for exactly that reason. It was added recently due to some error on SRC, not the mods. Only reason I saw it in the first place is I placed your easy run against another runners video and the differences are pretty staggering in most cases including movement as well as when you arrive at certain locations within the game. So again, I actually did already give you adequate explanation on why I had to reject the run and retroactively take the other PAL run off the board as it has never been allowed in the first place. In addition I am sorry if you are upset by this, but we have all been grinding for a long time for good times on the game so to have an innapropriate version wipe all the other runners hard work off the boards also does not make a whole lot of sense does it?

After seeing the posts in the forums/discord and having discussions on some of the issues I want to pose some solutions to the ongoing debate and problems that people have with the rules. All of the issues seem to boil down to two major things:

1.) Creating rulesets in terms of cheating vs. inclusivity and 2.) The tracker with the codes given as part of it.

There seems to be a solution that hopefully most will be ok with, hopefully without resulting to infantile insults as has been seen in the forums before with past occurences. That solution is to separate the boards between Hardware and EMU, which is fine I can make a different variable for this and then each set will have it's own rules associated with it, therefore allowing the moderators to track cheating better with the tracker while also still being inclusive to console players, which were here first btw. We will backtrack on the tracker elements and require them for EMU runs again and at the same time the input display will also be required. In addition to this I will continue to work on making the display aesthetically pleasing to everyone as that was a concern for some reason as well as I saw in some forum posts. So I think this is an "easy" fix that will stick and the rules will not have to be changed at all in the future again, unless something crazy comes up. If anyone has anything else to bring up now is the time to do so, not in a couple of weeks. So don't just sit on thumbs here and come back later with more problems with the rules once these are confirmed in. Also thanks to the people that did raise the concerns with me and were willing to speak to me in DMs about the issues it helped out a ton.

Ok Witchakorn I have editted the rules so far for REOB File 1 and File 2 will be updated soon. Here are the new definitions for melee weapons:

Melee Weapon: A weapon composed of solid material meant to establish a blow of force (physical damage) without firing projectiles.

Therefore, any weapons that do elemental damage or penetration damage are banned in this category.

These include: -Stun Gun -Stun Rod -Chemical Bottles -Molotovs -Explosives of Any Kind

Witch we need to get you set up at somepoint if you can do so with the emulator so that you can continue to run with us. I will take a look at it.

I will probably do that as soon as I get the chance to tidy up the rule set. I would also need to look at character specific weapons. i.e. David's Wrenches because technically they are also throwables.

Hey everyone just wanted to let you all know that with the inclusion of save states to the runs from here on out, we realized that requiring the emulator startup every time you started over would be entirely too tedious for the speedrun grind. Therefore we removed the requirement to show the emu start up every single time you use a save state. Hopefully this makes everyones lives a bit easier!! <3

Lol I also realized I spelled Initialization incorrectly RIP

Hey everyone I just got back from spending some time with my gf for vacation and getting over being a bit ill and have just seen this. Before I go on I would just like to say that no one has said anything to the effect of a runner cheating at the game from what I have seen in the discord. There was a discussion being made on the painting puzzle that I have just become privy too and testing is being done with it. It does appear that the RNG is super rare, but I see no problem with it and I would just hope that everyone in the community could be respectful to everyone else. I would love to do continued testing on this subject of course just to look into calculating the actual odds and we can do it as a community, which I think could be quite fun and good as a community building exercise for those that want to help out. I do apologize if anyone was made to feel like a cheater, that is not the environment that I want to harbor here in the forums or the community. This is a really cool find though and I hope people enjoy the grind that it will bring. I hope everyone has a great day and best of luck on your runs! <3

The updated link to the discord that is open to the public is now on the game page. Much love <3

Again I have no reason to distrust what you are saying about the lag, etc, but it would be better for another mod to respond to that comment as I am not an expert in that specific area. Especially in regard to being the RM and all that jazz. I am perfectly fine rewording Rule 10 again to only include host disconnects though as I have been told and you mentioned that is a problem, so I can do that. What would your suggestion be with the trackers (All people showing them?) I just want to be very clear and keep the line of communication open with you. Also the discord server I believe is open now to the general public so anyone can join to discuss things as long as it is in a professional and friendly manner. Finally in regards to the time zone issues. If it shows as the 4th on my screen for submission and the 3rd for you, that timezone has to also apply to when the message about the rule change was posted meaning that if it was posted on the 3rd for me, which it was, then it was even earlier on the 3rd for you or even on the 2nd and therefore it was still submitted after the rule change was stated and subject to the new rules. I do apologize for the confusion, but everyone's runs are held to those same standards and I can't make any special leniency calls for a specific person or group.

Kris or another runner would have to respond about the disconnecting thing as I have never had to use it and do not understand it fully. I have changed the rule text to not include the warning about the tracker. As far as any friend requests have gone I apologize if one of those was sent to me, I hardly see any notifications when I am at work, but I will accept it here shortly. As far as the PS2 thing goes it is simply a tap as opposed to a hold in order to soft reset the PS2 and retain the code RNG from the previous run. This was tested and confirmed by two different people that worked on speedrunning tools for Outbreak as well as other RE titles. I personally do not mind retiming runs as I think that is one of the few areas where retiming can be very beneficial for the mod in order to apply the correct time to the run etc. I believe I was the run to reject those runs and from what I saw according to the SRC logs for those submissions was that they are performed before the 3rd but were actually submitted on March the 4th. That is why they were classified under the new rule set. I am of course open to discussing any of these points and getting the other mods in here as well to discuss whatever we need to in the future! Much love <3

Georgia, USADrMaxtermind4 years ago

I was also informed by one of the other moderators that in fact PS2 users can soft reset to get optimal codes. I apologize for the misinformation in the original post, I was unaware that this was possible. Because of that it is only fair for everyone involved in the community now that both hardware PS2 and EMUs have this capability that it be allowed. So just reiterating this point Save States for codes are now ALLOWED in runs. If you have any questions about this or disagree with this statement, please feel free to discuss it and provide an alternative that would be fair on both sides. Also with the disconnect rule, we do have a video to show how it can affect gameplay overall for the remaining players in the game, which will hopefully be posted here soon.

As long as the translation patch does not effect the timers in any way or the gameplay itself, it should be fine. If you notice that it does affect the gameplay in any manner though feel free to bring it up so we can take a look into it.

Which tracker would you like to use? Can you send me the link for it, if it is more informative overall I can edit the link in the rule set
