Good time!

Well, I created a first version of my speedrun guide. I hope that my guide would be helpful for everyone.

If you have any questions, suggestions and something else, you could write it there!

thread: The Site

Good day! I am afraid about the Fighting Force. I have a lot of pending actions in this game but the first moderator was online 1 month ago last time and the second was 8 days ago. I understand that there is not so much time has passed but me with my friend Igonyar are speedrunning this game in a very active mode. Now we have 8 pending actions and planning make at least another 10 (there is Co-op% with 6 different ways and 3 difficulties).

Honestly, I don't want to overload moderators when one of them (or both) finally comes back. Maybe is it possible in that case make me or my friend as new moderator?

Dino Might, hello! I'm suffering with that problem too. And I have been trying to search the solution for a month in a total... I have done incredible things which I could imagine, but something is used to go wrong. Eternal cutscenes, slow menu, crashing on launch...

Within a lot of experiments I could make only one theory and I am not sure is it or right or not. I quess that PC port of Dino Crisis 2 is working very bad with contemporary GPU cards. There are much more chances if the game would be launched on iGPU which is situated in motherboard.

But nevertheless it is not a 100% decision, cause sometimes happens the same problems...

Well, I had the same problem... Few times... And there is one decision which is working for me (this method is going to Nvidia cause I don't have ATI or AMD GPU)/

  1. Load your PC with a monitor connected to motherboard VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc...
  2. Delete driver on your graphics card.
  3. Setup quite an old driver (well, new drivers are not working with DC2 because they are containing a special option "Game FPS" which is breaking DC2). I have a 419.67. It could be found on older releases in official Nvidia site.
  4. Reload the PC and connect your monitor to GPU.
  5. Game must be working (but speed can be slow).

Good luck :-)

So... Dear 666DeadHunter... Alas, my PAL-console could not work correctly with PAL version of DC2. I have tried a few times, but every time game dies on underwater level (right after first underwater saveroom). Well, OK. On the US version my best result was 01:09:00 (IGT)...

PAL version can be played only if I change the PAL CD to US CD. After appearing a strange music game dies again. And there I change US CD to PAL CD again... And the game finally goes further... But when I insert the "Plug" I need to do the same exchanging... In that case only I can pass the PAL version... And the result is 01:11:00 approximately (the same IGT).

The question is: how did you manage to get result faster than on PS2??? Maximum what I could done with my typical scheme is 01:09:00...

666DeadHunter, well, OK. I have tried many times but I didn't succeeded in PS category using PS1. I could take only the 6th place in PS section. If I will have a possibility then I will find another DC2 version fo PS1. I have only 2 discs now... Ancient pirate copy with russian language (very good condition but there is unofficial translation) and "new" CD (official US version but is going incredibly slow). I know that IGT only does matter.

Anyway, I will concentrate my power (^_^) on finding a good CD with DC2. Then I will try use all my PP (hello to RPG) to run the game as fast as I can. If there is possible to achieve the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place (using PS1), then there is no need to separate these categories.

P.S. Who else will make this experiment?))

In my opinion, the PS category should be separated on PS1 and PS2. PS2 is loading the DC2 faster than on PS1. If one will make similar runs on PS1 and PS2 then on PS2 will be less IGT than on PS1. So, alas, there are unequal chances.

PSP/Emu category has the same problem, but there is a very small difference. It is possible enough (as for me) make result better on PS1 emulator than on PSP. At the same time there is unable to do it on PS1 (versus PS2).

BUT!! If PS category will be separated on two, than it is needed to replace speedruns on PS1 to the right category.

Well, I will refresh this thread)) I have an idea to add some "new" PS1 emulators to the Dino Crisis 2 because now we have only two not very popular emulators. Well, I think that this one idea is not new... Nevertheless, in my opinion there is must be added at least ePSXe or some another famous emulator to give more "emulator speedrun possibilities" to the DC2 community.

I have tested a lot of emulators with various plugins. So, I can exactly say that ePSXe (at least 1.8.0, 1.9.0 and 2.0.0) is working with DC2 very good. But I would add something else...

These two emulators we have are good, but:

  1. PSXjin is really working fine, but it's quite old;
  2. EmuHawk is very accurate in emulation, but slow enough for speedrunning.

So, that's my point of view. What do you think about that?
