Hi there. Long time enjoyer of the game but new to speedrunning it and I just had a few questions before I dabbled with routing some stuff out. If I’m running a DLC category, let’s just say From Dusk til Casa Bonita, I noticed that in the rules it says “Any and all items, powers, etc. from any of the DLC's outside of "From Dusk til Casa Bonita" are BANNED”

So does that mean that at no point I can go into the “powers” menu and change what attacks I’m using? Also are you aloud to have artifacts equipped to have a higher overall Might?

@BowserTenk sounds like you got it figured out but I just wanted to verify that YES your run is still valid if all you have is a twitch broadcast. I run the same category and I think the “locally record just in case” is more of a recommendation because if your internet causes significant lag in your stream then the run could be invalidated. More of a precaution but not a requirement to locally record.

Will this include a third person category for already existing extensions such as Jedi%? Will each one of these have a first person and third person option to submit to? @nicowithaC

@TheMrEnigma72 I’m curious what responses you get because I’ve been wondering about this as well

Whatever glitch this is ive tried to emulate it on console and it didn’t doesn’t quite seem to work or if it does it’s just extremely precise. I’m assuming that the intentional death is perhaps DA manipulation for the upcoming boss fight? Perhaps dying and lowering the DA ends up saving more time in the long run?

Extremely curious as well if anybody can shed some light on it! And if so, does anybody know if it’s possible on console? The PC times are significantly faster. Obviously some of that is attributed to the 120fps and all that good stuff

@Rooke unfortunately all of the out of bounds glitches have been patched with this most recent update. Eventually we will have to separate the leaderboards into different patches. If you’re interested in learning how to downpatch your game, I would recommend joining the RE4 speedrunning discord and go to the VR tab. Lots of knowledgeable people over there

@Ritzblues783 I definitely will. I’d like to remake a better one in the near future

@Vector_Delta @Parakeet_Dude Hey, so garage skip is just a glitch that can only be done while playing in roomscale because you need a few steps of room to do it. I’ve personally never done it so I wouldn’t be a great person to ask how exactly to do it. But it’s referring to the little garage door that you have to keep peeking around the corner for the enemies to open it and attack you so you can kill them while on the island.

It’s not a huge time save especially if you play New Game+ where you can just mow them down with a rocket launcher after two cycles anyways. But from what I understand the skip has to do with pausing and unpausing and then taking a couple of steps forward in real life. That’s why you need to play in roomscale so that you can have a big enough play area to do it in. After taking those steps forward while unpausing, you should be able to clip right through the garage door and walk right on by.

Again, not a huge time save. But I think a lot of the reason that the categories are separated is to future proof the boards just in case anything huge gets discovered like some way to get past the chimera wall or something else along those lines.

If you guys are wanting more info about the skip then I would head to the discord and ask people over there. I’ve asked about it before and got it explained to me along with every other question I’ve needed answers for. The community is luckily as helpful as they can be and it makes things a lot easier for newcomers.

@MoonyToons as far as I am aware, it still totally works. I was messing around with the glitch recently

@mikunodisappear Wow, I had never heard of this glitch. Crazy how many people were experiencing this according to that Reddit post. It sounds like this was more of a bug that happened to players when they first installed the game and the only way to fix it was to uninstall and reinstall. If there was a way to get this to actually consistently happen then I could see it being of interest though!

But if that was discovered I’m sure there would need to be a discussion on if it should be allowed in a run. I couldn’t see it making a difference in New Game+ because you start out with whatever ammo you need and you can have as much as possible. But if this was something you could in a New Game run then that would be a huge game changer if it was allowed. But then again it may defeat the purpose of a NG run and may have to be in its own category?

@xdawnpierce Right now I don’t believe there are a whole lot of differences between the two categories. The big thing that comes to mind would be garage skip, which is only doable when playing in roomscale because you need a few steps of room to do it. I also think a big portion of it is to future-proof the leaderboards like you said, because garage skip is a thing who knows what else might be possible.

I really prefer playing while seated in a swivel chair so I can steer with my head and just rotate in my chair. So roomscale wouldn’t be the category for me because I’m not planning on doing anything where I need to step forward in real life. If you’re willing to attempt to do those kinds of glitches then I would play in roomscale. Otherwise it doesn’t really seem to matter what you want to play and submit to. Perhaps in the future there will be more that can be done in roomscale!

I know this has been discussed on the discord but just to bring it over here for anybody who needs to see it in the future. I can’t find a definitive list online which is pretty lame but so far the differences are as follows:

-Shotgun starts in your inventory -Luis is actually helpful in the cabin -No key needed to enter the castle, and the other way is blocked off anyways -Water hall doesn’t have archers or enemies coming down the stairs and is generally a lot easier -Lots of enemies just don’t spawn at all in the castle, for instance the RPG’s in the square room with the chest in the middle -Less bugs in the prison -Only 1 Knight comes to life during Ashley’s segment and you can turn around and run right by him -No Maze whatsoever -Only 1 Royal Chalice is needed to get to the bit where the bugs take Ashley -No interior clock tower, you just have to pull the lever to move the bridge -only 1 armored garrador spawns in the room where there’s normally 2 -No second spike room cutscene before you get to the mine cart, you can just walk right through the room

There’s probably more but those are the main major differences that’s useful to know when speedrunning

@MoonyToons Unfortunately I don’t think you would be able to charge it and come back in the middle of a run. According to the rules in every category the run has to be completed in a single segment.

Battery life is probably the biggest downside to speedrunning this game. Generally I’ll start a run with a full battery and by the end of the run (especially when recording) I’m usually around 10% battery life. But I usually do a fair bit of resetting the game. So give or take you’ll probably get a little less than 3 hours of use which isn’t a lot of time.

I would recommend doing your practice on a separate charge and then when you’re ready to put actual attempts in, I’d go ahead and charge it up again. Generally the Quest 2 doesn’t take very long to charge.

The only other solution and one that I’ve been thinking more and more about would be getting battery pack from the Meta Quest 2 Accessories store. It advertises that it will double your battery life, so 3 hours would turn into 6 hours of life. Something to think about. Unfortunately there’s no easy solution to this as of right now though

@AllEyesOnMisael The only things I can find in the more detailed game rules is this:

“Check your VOD’s before submitting to ensure there is no major quality issues If a run has any significant frame loss it can be rejected. This would be any loss of 5 or more frames. Serious issues in quality of the video, if it becomes difficult for a moderator to see what is happening in the game your submission can be rejected.”

Using this info I would say it seems to be on a case to case basis. The main concern would just be an overly laggy game. If it’s impossible to see what’s going on or (as it mentions) if you lose 5 frames or more then it will probably be rejected. But if you’re talking just video quality, I’m sure a 360p video would suffice. Possibly 240p. But I’m sure once you get under that it’s probably gonna start getting hard to make anything out. I’m not a moderator so don’t take what I’m saying as absolute truth but I’m sure if a video is at least legible then you’ve got nothing to worry about.

@Parakeet_Dude Click on “Watch on YouTube”. The link won’t let you watch it on other platforms. Also just so you know, it doesn’t show the glitch happening. It just shows somebody searching for a glitch. The idea (if I’m not mistaken) is to find a glitch to get through the Chimera door without having to collect the 3 animal crests which would save an insane amount of time. Apparently there have been bounties put out in the past for people to find a glitch that would allow it

Interesting. Is it known to be possible to clip through the walls here? Or is it just the idea that if you could clip through somehow you would save an immense amount of time?

Hey there, are you referring to stair skating? Because this is a method of going up and down stairs slightly quicker in a lot of RE games. The animation that the game uses of characters walking on stairs looks cool, but it’s slow. So to get around that you essentially spam the aim button for a lack of better words. It’s done by aiming down sight while walking up/down stairs every half second or so. You’ve got to experiment with it yourself to get the rhythm of it down though, or search a video explaining it now that you know what it’s called. I’m sure there’s threads here explaining it as well!

There’s also a few staircases that spamming the UP direction on the analog stick will have Jill walk down slightly faster but they’re not very often. Main one I can think of is the fire escapes in the beginning apartment sequence. I would perhaps find a console run on the leaderboards that also shows a visual of what buttons the runner is pressing in real time so that you can see how both of those tricks are done. I just learned by watching other people!

Yeah sorry, it’s not the best explanation but I tried my best. Essentially just get yourself in that right corner and angle yourself to the left as normal. And then I wait until I see the scaffolding on the right and count to 2. Then take a tiny step back and hit the jump button. After some practice it gets easier!

I didn’t know to mute the game so I apologize about the audio

@TakeOutPow I experienced everything you just said as well. My first run was around an hour and 50 minutes and by the time I was done I realized that it stopped recording right around the jet ski part. I’ve also experienced corrupt files as well. Best thing I can say so far is to try to keep it under 1 hour and 45 mins if possible, that seems to be pushing it for me for some reason. Super frustrating to complete a nearly 2 hour run just to have it be invalidated at the very end of the game!

@MeteorRights Also, elevators aren’t the only place that pause buffering can save some time. Any doors that you have to pull a lever for and the gears start going.. those are actually loading screens in disguise as well. As soon as your done pulling a lever, pause the game and let the ring run out. You just saved yourself from standing there staring at a door for 10 seconds.

Also another situation that comes to mind is right after picking up the first winged key. You’ll want to walk all the way up to the gate that requires said key. But instead of doing anything else you’ll actually want to pause and let the ring run out. There’s a bug in the game that causes the menus to take a while to load. Pausing gets rid of this. If you have any other questions or if I can explain anything else better just lmk!
