I'll double check with the other mods, but as of right now, going online for anything other then purchasing items, armor, etc. is not allowed in the Any% runs because it's not part of the main offline story. The only reason we allow the purchasing of items online is because you can purchase a Farcaster online, which you can't normally purchase until much later that is used by of our runners in Cha-Cha Any% run. It's clever and anyone can go online to purchase said item.
However not everyone may have a friend or 3 willing to drag them through HR for RNG drops to potentially get game breaking armor to complete the offline story mode. Plus there's always the concern that hunts are dying quickly because of hacking, which is rampant online (Killing an Alatreon solo in like 10 seconds is an example). To give another equivalent situation, it would be like trading for a level 100 Pokemon at the beginning of a Pokemon speedrun, which is certainly not allowed.
Once we've decided what the official ruling will be, either me or another one of the mods will make a post and it will be added to the rules. :) Thanks for inquiring about the rules.
Might is a strong word. I would start looking at the autosplitter website that they take care of. Last time I asked for help, I was kind of ignored until finally redirected to their website, which is not for the feint of heart.

Edited the timing for IL submissions to use In-Game Time. Rules updated to reflect the change. Time limits are included in each IL to make calculating the In-Game Time easier when posting it.
The MH3U leaderboard now has 20% more cats. :3
You can do either, but I think the main focus is completed file. So basically, you can do Farm Aid in low rank with Deviljho gear if you had it.
I put Cha-Cha in main category because it's pretty popular. You don't technically reach credits by defeating Ceadeus either. Only a cutscene, but I thought getting to the end credits was kind of rough in MH3U. No one seems to run or route for Ivory Lagi/Credits. I felt putting a category in that was actually feasible was a sensible idea. The ones I currently list in Misc are categories I'm not sure will ever be ran, or at the very least will take a lot of work. If things progress and I don't see the other categories being ran, I'll remove them and move Cha-Cha over to misc. For right now however, I want to draw in our MH fanatics. :P
I suppose the ILs being separated by weapon type was a bit much. I was thinking that as well tbh, so I'll remove those. I'll look in to adding the Arenas. I'll push those near the top if people are going to submit times to them frequently.

I was recently granted Mod status for MH3U. I have taken the liberty of making some changes to the leaderboard and encourage any aspiring speedrunners and lovers of Monster Hunter to check it out! I'll make a list of what I have added/what I have changed below for anyone interested.
Full-game Leaderboard changes:
Added Any% (Ceadeus) Added Any% (Cha-Cha) Added Any% (Alatreon) under Misc. Changed original Any% to Any% (Ivory Lagiacrus) under Misc. Original Segmented Any% has been removed.
A Level Leaderboard was also added. It has every offline/village quest in the game on it. I may possibly add online quests later, but for now I felt adding every single offline quest was a good start.
Other changes:
Added icons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Added a Great Sword favicon. Added custom Speedrun.com logo. Added a MH3U related background. Added Arena Quests to ILs. Removed weapons categories from ILs to allow for more competition and better overall optimization. Added 2, 3 and 4-player categories in ILs for Arena/Online quests. Now with 20% more cats.
