Is there a judging reason why one would one even need the credits? Seems arbitrary since the rules literally end with "Stop the timer when stage 8 clear appears". Once that has appeared it should be fine to submit.

Is there a tool to keep track of time without loads?

Revenge of Shinobi - Airship Air Walk Was done using a controller. Basically the same trick as the OOB skip in the final level. Press Jump on the same frame as landing, then jump again after moving to the side while still in the air. Should be an improvement to RTA. posting here since it will probably get lost in Discord eventually.

Don't think banning a strategy the game allows is a good idea. It is not like the entire game is death abuse or something unentertaining.

United StatesCoolHandMike4 years ago

I mean I did put effort into that segmented run. Why not just leave it in a MISC section?

I had encountered a bug similar to this about 15 years ago, but the boss ended up stuck in the flor while moving back and forth. Very cool to ACTUALLY see a video of something like it. I wonder if perhaps the A powerup actually does damage to enemies?

A Hammerhead run would be difficult lol. Considering how even though he is so huge he gets bounced around like a much smaller car. He has a collision box like Axel, but he also lacks any really effective special. He is also slower than many other cars. Would be cool if someone got great at him though.

Twister or Mr Grimm runs would be incredible. Really high risk considering how pathetically low their health bars are.

You are right that it would only be for the combos. There are other combos that may be more useful than basic combo too. Perhaps it is time to examine and compare the various dps combos. I have seen infinite (or near?) combos for every character except cherry.

Maybe a cool start would be to examine these infinites?

Could DPS be included as well? Probably would need to be a rough estimate. Suspect the SOR1 characters have high dps.

Allows you to lure out and isolate Candy, the biker chick with too much armor, in the final level. Makes the part on higher difficulties quite a bit easier.

So basically the Air Walk glitch is possible with normal controller inputs. I had the idea in my head so went and tried it and found it worked. So turns out the way that Air Walk glitch actually works is that when you are a frame before landing you have the character perform a double jump. This is highly restrictive timing, and in the TAS I was forcing a double jump with UDLRB right before landing to do the Air Walk. However, if you happen to find a platform above you at just the right height you can do an Air Walk with a controller.

  1. Get below a platform. Use Jump Ninjitsu if necessary, although BaconOmelette in the below post mentions how he cannot get it working with Jump Ninjitsu and finds it easier with no Jump Ninjitsu. Which would ultimately be faster so that is good.
  2. Hold Right and Jump such that the double jump height will be about the same height as the platform.
  3. Jump to do the Air Walk.
  4. For the OOB to work you have to then hold Down. 5)When near the ceiling release Down so the ninja will be in the ceiling.
  5. Press jump. This will have you jump again since you are in the Air Walk state.
  6. Keep holding right since the game will be pushing you left since you are in the ceiling. 8 ) If you released Down and got enough height you should be in the ceiling.

Video. No weird opposite directionals like in the TAS.

There are bitrate settings you could try lowering in OBS if you want to try something a little more attractive than recording from a phone.

Improved the above with a damage boost in 7-2 for about 1/3 of a second. Also added some entertainment in various areas.

"The reason this rule exists is to ensure no one is resetting through the use of "load state"."

I assume you are talking about if someone puts a load state at the start of the game? Sounds like a bad attempt at preventing cheating. You would have an hard time telling if the thing was TASed anyway. As far as randomness goes...I do not really believe this to be a factor. All the enemies seem to do the same stuff as long as you do the same motions. This is not like some Yugioh games where you can manip the game via resets and get some highly unlikely stuff to happen. Also it is counterproductive to enforce something that might prevent really good legit runs from being submitted.

For these reasons I am against this reset rule.

I would suggest the split be reversed. My reasoning is because there are other better rules that could be implemented.

Short list of points

  1. Only accept ONE or TWO accurate emulators for WR submissions if they use emulator.
  2. Find timing differences and use an adjusted time. Or have two columns for console time and emulator time explicitly showing the adjusted time.
  3. Start enforcing new rules once it is set in place.
  4. No need to ban emulators.
  5. The board is now so broken up it's annoying when you have all these categories with NO RUNS at all.

Points with more details

  1. Only accept accurate emulators for WR. You could even limit it to ONE emulator. Some emulator cores are just bad if you are trying to get accurate emulation. Banning gens would be a good start since it is too fast. Bizhawk core seems good. I would recommend using an accurate emulator with playback tools since creating a comparison would be more simple. Maybe I can ask some guys that know better than me about accurate emulators.

Most likely the time differences are during loading and rarely a couple frames here and there for lag. At least that has been my experience as a TASer that has converted movies from one emulator to another. Also the time differences between consoles and emulators are typically overblown unless in hyper competition. This is no sonic, mortal kombat, or mario. A brief click through should prove my point obvious when there are sometimes over a minute difference inbetween first and second.

  1. Find timing differences and display difference or a single adjusted time. In each leaderboard have two columns for console time and emulator time explicitly showing the adjusted time. Then just sort by console time ascending. or just Adjust and use that time adjusted time.

  2. Start enforcing new rules once it is set in place. Trying to do stuff retroactively does not seem fun.

  3. No need to ban emulators. That would be a death sentence for SOR2 on SRC pretty much. I have completely given up years ago on consoles after going through 3 consoles and 5 sega cd modules. I do not think I am the only one.

  4. Board is now so broken up it looks bare with many sections having no runs.

So in by doing something like that there can be actual comparisons which will serve runners for the better.

Hello, I am a fan of FTL and am interested in finding what would be the fastest possible route for the starting ship the Kestral A. It definitely seems like the beam weapons + hacking are the way to go on the final boss. However what would be the best RNG events / fights you could possibly get throughout the run and still be able to kill the Last boss?

Ok trying out the Abedede strats. The punch lock I have down and is easy to do. He uses that breakout move in the beginning but after that he goes down with that. The suplex cycle I have trouble with once you get near the end of the screens. Is there some way to start the suplex cycle going the other way? I saw you kind of do that, but not quite understanding how to have Abedede turn the other direction... Thanks for the tutorial, I will have to get to the ninja to test that later since I have no save states nearby.
