I concur with using the robot timing to normalize runs. We should have it written in the rules for how that works(ie make sure the first room is in the video long enough for the timing(in the event someone does something weird like on the DOS runs to go faster) and what the normalized times are).
I agree that there should be a standard game speed/machine type for the Amiga boards. We had discussed it before, but since none of the mods were really all that familiar with Amiga were letting it slide until someone more experienced in the matter came along. Thank you for the input and we are taking your suggested standard under consideration now.
I currently know of 3 big skips in the game:
Black Thunder (biggest) Weighting Room Lift (least big)
Does anyone know about any big skips in other rooms?
Yeah, using the numpad makes movement a LOT easier in the game. I tried it on my system and Spidey doesn't want to shoot web in any diagonal other than up-right if I use the non-numpad directional keys... I suspect space get ghosted on many keyboard by the directional keys... Ghosting keys is a very annoying problem for games especially on the cheaper keyboards.
The input sequence that I use is as follows:
UP+LEFT - to start jump UP+LEFT+SPACE - to shoot first web putting Spidey into a ball RIGHT+SPACE - to straighten out sideways and shoot second web to clip
ie: start pressing: UP+LEFT --jump starts-- start pressing: SPACE --web shoots-- stop pressing: UP+LEFT start pressing: RIGHT --web shoots-- --Clipping should start--
hope this helps? I'll try to set up a split timer and keyboard thingy for my next stream.
Stream starting in about an hour. I just got done with a rough Any%(No Black Thunder Skip) run that I am getting ready to submit before starting the stream.
I am going to stream myself going through the game and talking about it on Saturday at sometime at twitch.tv/coldiron1977 since a friend of mine was interested in the game. You can stop by too if you want to watch and talk about it too.
I jump to the left side and turn to the right so I don't stick, then after bobbing up and down and touching the top of that little area, Spidey flips upside down to be perfectly lined up 100% of the time to stick a web and pull down to get out. You can watch the video to see me doing it.
I tried doing the high score run, but messed up a little and only got 12731... Uploaded anyways at and submitted it to the leader board for Any%(No Black Thunder Skip) since it was faster than the existing first place run there. I'll do a faster run later without trying for score and hitting all the rooms.
The highest score I've been able to get is 12784(although not trying to go fast...). The only rooms I entered without full health were the three rooms after Puzzle Room(The Pits, Torture Chamber, and Take 6). I can consistently get to the Jaws room without damage when I am just focusing on the game(not streaming). Jaws often takes me multiple tries, but Take 5 is right before it so I just heal and try again. I'll record a run at some point even if the category isn't made.
For the All Rooms run I was thinking it would be all the proper rooms(including Black Thunder, Starry Starry Night, Timeless Void, etc), but the glitch screen isn't one I think of as a real room(no non-glitch way to enter, no name, no points for getting there). The route I am planning to use for Any%(No Black Thunder Skip) still skips visiting a lot of rooms, so I thought a category that at least visits all the rooms would be nice too.
I just submitted my Any% run attempt a little bit ago and was planning on doing a run without using the Black Thunder screen. Is anyone else doing this? I only see one attempt on the board... I was also thinking of doing something like an All Rooms, or High Score run, but see no category for those yet...
