Given that KBM and controller inputs can't be used simultaneously during runs, I can see this being a reasonable split (especially since you can play this game on consoles and PC).

I'm against.

It sets bad precedent moving forward given that Warframe as a game revolves around the Warframe character as a unit character of play.

The core discussion point here for me is whether a Warframe character is a mechanic. Quite a few games split up categories based off mechanics or concepts central to the game - for example, NG vs. NG+ can bring forth different play-style potentials, Low% forces particular parts of the game to be blocked off that encompass the entire run off of a tracked percentage value. So, the discussion with Nova should be framed in this manner - in the grand scheme of things, is Nova, by herself, a defining concept of the game? I'd say not. But others might consider each individual Warframe to be its own play-style, which warrants an effective subcategory for each of them. This doesn't scale IMO, and I think that having each Warframe be its own mechanic isn't the right idea either (as opposed to say characters in a game like Crypt of the Necrodancer).

As for WR discussion: Let's be clear here - speedrunning should not necessarily be a measure of WRs. The goal of speedrunning is to - as a collective - improve upon execution of the intricacies of the game such that it can be proven possible that humans can in fact beat the game in faster ways over time. Friendly competition is fine, but the focus is not on "who is the best", but rather "how fast can the game be beaten by us".

I like having MR tests being a category all in themselves but keep in mind that as soon as MR 1-30 is available I'll be pushing discussion on kicking out the other 10-test categories (those existed only for the purpose of practice).

I'll be in private talks with zopney for the most part behind the scenes - you'll likely see him posting more here on the boards though.

Blast_kun will need to make a decision on this. Does this depend on whether the version is NTSC or PAL?

Hello everyone,

With the recent questions and interest in this game as a speedrun, both trials, quests, and otherwise, it is necessary that we plan on what categories can be created, with the following goals in mind:

  • Consistency: Future changes to the game shouldn't often obsolete runs. In this sense, most categories should be glitchless.
  • Accessibility: Any player should be able to get their feet into these runs, and we should help them be able to.
  • Popularity: Players should be interested in actually running these categories.
  • Sensibility: Categories should just plain make sense from the standpoint of an outsider reading through their descriptions.

If you want to shape the future of Warframe speedrunning, please contact me via Discord PM (Twitter is fine too, but Discord is preferred). We want to make these categories inviting for runners and players, so please discuss your suggestions and ideas!

This thread will be locked and deleted once things are settled. For now, current discussions revolve around:

  1. Cinematic Quests as IL's (or separate full game runs)
  2. All categories should be glitchless
  3. Trial speedrun start and end times should be redefined
  4. Mastery Rank 1-30 runs should be full game runs
  5. What categories should be representative of this game in the first place.

Thank you for reading this! There's a lot of work to do, so things may be slow for the time being.

I'm available on Saturday and Sunday (not Friday).

EDIT: For PC runs, I'll need to bring my own laptop, unless we can find a way to install the game through disc onto a PC before the run.

Hello all, the forum doesn't send me emails so that's a fault on me for not checking. In the future, please send me private messages through the communications channels. Preferably Discord, but Twitter works as well. You can also ping Gyoo if communications aren't active.

That being said, the site you linked never existed when this leaderboard was created. I also do not know of the verification tools that site uses, but I am open to suggestions on whether we should just consider that one instead.

Sadly, Warframe's system make it ¤extremely¤ difficult to create valid run categories without them being utterly destroyed by future content updates. I can discuss changes, but there were be difficulties down the road.

That's it for updates from me. Again, please ping me on the communications channels - I am near always online on Discord if you need me.

These would be IL's. I would ask Blast_Kun (send him a Twitter DM) to add them if needed.

Fair enough, we've been discussing the "Give Up" strat in the PSMD Discord for the past few months but never got to test it directly yet. ( LINK [24h]: https://discord.gg/0egceuuBkqUSmguI )

Will need to run this again once I get the time to, but the given Pastebin route is DEFINITELY a good lead for All Connections or anything past that (100%, Max%, etc.), especially for stat-boosts.

At some point though the stat disadvantage needs to be addressed, since I can't see being underleveled that good of a situation to fall into when you are locked into a story mission. You can potentially lose a LOT of time from lack of damage if you are trapped by enemies, and even more so if you faint w/o Reviver Seeds. You can always stock up on them, but...

California, USACelestics8 years ago

Oh just get the boss to force you to faint, or force faint in the dungeon (I'm not 100% sure this works for the Gabite fight)

California, USACelestics8 years ago

Oh gawd this might be a problem lol

I'll have to finish up the route and replay to confirm this.

I'm chiming in here to say that we're discussing it now. I'm going to leave these 3 questions here for some brain food. Ultimately, this will have to be settled via community vote, but let's try to think more about this.

Q1) Will the rebinding be advantageous vs. non-rebinding? How so? Is it significant?

Q2) Does it allow for new strategies or make a previously-thought non-human strategy possible?

Q3) Is the sole reason for re-mapping ONLY for the sake of usability? Or does it introduce something new, such as "turbo" functionality or multiple key activations per keystroke?

Some of my thoughts on the matter:

If it allows for "turbo" functionality, it should be banned. If one keystroke allows for the activation of more than 1 keypress (i.e. more than a 1:1 mapping), then it's banned. If it allows for a better usability, but grants no extra significant advantage to a run, AND the game does not allow for remapping in the first place, then let the community decide. If a trick that is thought to be non-humanly possible is now possible with the remapping, then let the community decide.

Probably not, because vitamins vastly outscale stat gains from leveling up.

Pin Missile - Multi Hit + 4 Range Vine Whip - 2 Range

Multi-hit is just plain great with the Comeback emera. Range allows your teammate to cover for you against enemies, finishing fights much faster from a safe distance.

Both attacks are physical, which means scaling off Proteins will work. However, Charmander scales off Calcium for Sp. Attack, which means I might end up trying a Water partner next run for non-physical moves...

  1. We should put it up to a vote.

  2. I use subsplits for each chapter, splitting after dungeon completion or after a story fight.

  3. I start the run as soon as you confirm everything at character select (the last option before you actually start playing).

  4. PMD:GtI has no known RNG-manipulation, so we can probably assume that it's going to be hard to find RNG-manipulation for PSMD. This game is an RPG, so routing for this game is basically going through all possible situations and figuring out the minimal requirements to complete a run. This involves deciding what items we need, what level and stats are safe to use, and what optional missions to complete.

  5. I ¤highly¤ recommend trying to route the game yourself before looking at other route considerations so we have more fresh thoughts on it. Once that's done, take a look at the Pastebin I posted up a while back. As of this post, I am finishing up C21, so I am very close to being done with a rough draft of a route.

Chiming in here from a second verifier:

Decision: Reject.

  1. At time 0:00 - "A name has already been chosen" indicates a failure to reset all files to a "fresh" state - i.e. "Is this name OK?" must be on the screen when starting a run.
  2. At time 0:00 - Your name is longer than the 6-character limit imposed by the program. This is indicative of an altered save file, which is banned in nearly all speedgaming communities, including this one. It doesn't matter if it doesn't "affect" the game; in fact, we don't even know if this could affect the game at all (especially when Asriel spells out your name after the bridge fall).

EDIT: If anyone still has any questions or would like to dispute, please post here.

Agreed with anshwo here - I've been going pure LT on offline attempts and it's doing WONDERS. RIP Red Missiles!

Laser Turbine needs to be tested more, but it shouldn't be random how many times you need to use skills to have it proc. A direct hit on the worms immediately kills with the LT, so it's a definite item to use if we can consistently get the thing to activate. (b'w')b

Already started routing with a second playthrough. Expected Any% time is ~8 hours.

I can DEFINITELY say that, for starters, Charmander + Chespin is ridiculously strong, BUT the accuracy of their moves is despicable. Also, assume no RNG manipulation, because I can't find any reliable patterns >_>"

I'll post my notes up in Guides later once I get them in order. Don't expect them to be too detailed though. Also, on the topic of WM's... Not having them would be a huge pain, especially since we can make good use of the TM's and items...

[ Screw it, I made a Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/8B9cXg8g ] As for other stuff:

You best do the optional missions, because your moves miss a ton and you get wrecked at lower levels past Chapter 9. Dragon Rage range increases with Charmander's level, which makes it useless past Chapter 9 because your other moves start to deal more than 30 damage. When picking partners during Chapter 9, each classmate gives you a different reward. Still trying to figure out which one is for the best. Stayaway and Petrify Wands are godly. Save Luminous Orbs for missions. Escape Orbs unnecessary until you hit Silver Rank (which is a while off so not really that big of a deal). Blast Seeds are godly during boss fights; I don't need to say this lol Best connection mission order for lowest dungeon floor counts (will edit later): Sylveon - REQUIRED Vulpix - REQUIRED Axew - REQUIRED Raichu Pachirisu Emolga/Munchlax - You need to keep going to find Munchlax and give an Apple Cubone/Whiscash Mr. Mime Vaporeon Whimsicott (You need to have Vaporeon completed, so you can't chain this with Vaporeon's mission) Drowzee/Ralts [ Still Going - Check the Pastebin! ] Sell Shiny Apples + Perfect Apple (after Roselia gives you rewards in Chapter 5) Sheer Mountain Range - BRING POUNCE WANDS, as you can continuously warp to find the stairs

You lose wallhumping using a controller unless you rebind your controller buttons. That's not a huge issue though.

Mashing is another issue altogether. Some people prefer the 4-key mashing setup (Z+X, ENTER+SHIFT) but there are those that use controller buttons to mash. Both work fine; it just depends on what you are comfortable with. You can even use both!

That's pretty much it AFAIK.
