In accordance with Rule #7 - Still need votes from Trance, Stevenmayte, and Arcadia.

Poopfist -

Find the registry entry to disable FMVs. I don't remember where to find it off the top of my head, but it should have "movies" or something in the entry. You just set it from "1" to "0" and it'll turn off FMVs. There's no problem with doing that for speedrunning, since turning off FMVs is considered a compatibility fix.

As for sound shutting off in 1.1, I usually do a hard reset of the game every attempt for that reason. If you play the game for too long, the game's sound engine just crashes and eventually you're left playing through the rest of the game without audio.

God damn Bio2 PC sucks

Dchaps, uhTrance

Alright, then, Two votes.

That's really the only thing I was concerned about, so all that's left is-

Trance: If you want to go ahead and start the vote, I don't mind.

Make another thread for it and lock this one when you have done it.

Before you do though, make sure we have everyone we want to run for candidate, and copy the same rules over from the first post into your main post - but alter the voting to say "maximum of 2 votes".

48 hours seems reasonable, so run it for that long.

Sovietboss - That's probably the only concern. I don't really think that'll happen if we impose a limit, but while it's likely to happen with single votes, the mathematical probability is less. If a tie happens, no matter the format, then a tiebreaker vote of the majority winners will have to be run.

Edit: OK, Two votes seems reasonable.

Also, I am perfectly fine with letting uhTrance run the vote, but there's a couple of things to mention. After a quick pan and scan of this thread, I need to point out that there are only 16 people including myself in this thread. Most people will probably not care, but I think the number is a little low given the number of people who actually participate in discussion of regulations.

Again, the "multiple vote" system, given the number of candidates, is entirely my proposition. I think it's a good idea because it reduces the likelihood of a tiebreaker... And we can be certain that each individual will be OK with a majority winner who was chosen out of at least ONE of their votes. It's better reflective of a concept in ethics called "Greatest Happiness Principle" (google it if you're unfamiliar with it). We don't have to work with it, but I want to know if everyone is OK with it or whether it sounds too ridiculous before we push it through and start. I realize that the general concept of a vote is "one per person", but this should more or less have the same effect.

Full transparency? I'm just trying to keep stream monsters from our respective stream chats out of the vote because it would be an outside influence playing the favorites game.

The reason I proposed a "multiple vote" system is so that we can ensure everyone will be "okay" with whoever is chosen if their primary choice isn't picked. It will also reduce the likelihood of a tiebreaker.

Also, again, Arcadia, the point of a forum is to give a conversation time to stew, not to hastily make decisions based on whoever is online. I intended to NOT start this on the same day to give everyone ample time to reply and continue to think of cause-effect consequences of what could possibly happen during the vote. Nothing is black and white when determining logistics, especially when you have to take everything (such as stream monsters me-tooing their way into the vote) into account. I know if you were me, you wouldn't want one of MY moderators who doesn't speedrun coming in to play the favorites game, because if chibievil came in to do it for you, others could do the same for themselves.

I'm sure you can at least grasp that concept.

Soviet - no, we're voting for Series supermod.

Unknown
United StatesCarcinogenSDA10 years ago

My main concern is, what will unbalance the vote and what should we put in place to make sure that this doesn't happen?

One thing I would say is, if you're running, you MUST vote for two other people.

Mottci - This is a ground rules thread, not a nomination thread. Once everyone who posts in this thread is OK with the ground rules, we'll move onto the vote.

Unknown
United StatesCarcinogenSDA10 years ago

Then we'll call the vote again.

That's not a bad idea. Who wants to run?

GUYS GUYS GUYS THIS ISN'T A NOMINATION YET.

I think we should just start with one series super for now, but first lay all the groundwork for the voting in place.

=============================================== Quote (Anacharial):

I don't know the in's and out's of what being a "super mod" entails but I don't think they need to have superb knowledge in all categories.

Ideally you want someone who can interact with the game based mods to assist where needed and keep a track of things from that perspective.

In that vein I'd probably nominate: Zenix, Deadhunter, Dchaps, SephJul as a starting point. I'm sure this needs a good long discussion as it shouldn't be a decision taken lightly.

I read this post and realized that people don't know what's going on exactly.

Super Mod is basically a moderator that can add or remove other moderators.

The reason everyone wants a supermod nomination to happen is so that no one person has too much power.

We should seriously think about what ground rules we need before we even have this vote. Sorry for the hasty lock of the previous thread, but we need to figure this out first because it's necessary to determine some ground rules.

I say:

  1. Must have submitted a verified run for your vote to count. You must have experience working within this community and know the process before you even have any knowledge what you're voting for. The reason this rule is here is to prevent people from inviting non-competitors into the thread to vote for their friend and unbalance the vote.

  2. You can vote for more than one person. The answer is that the community should be OK with ANYONE within the list they chose being a super mod, even if their first choice wasn't selected by the majority vote. But this also means don't post "I don't care" if you're going to post in the thread, because that completely obliterates the point of a vote. If you don't want to vote, don't talk.

  3. You cannot nominate yourself.

  4. People who actually want to run (will give this a couple of days or so, so the thread makes its way around. doing this in one day is a bad idea.): -uhTrance -Sephjul -StevenMayte -ArcadiaSkies -ZenixRevenge -Eleval -Dchaps -WolfDNC

I'm looking for other ground rules. Anyone else have any ideas?

I will change this thread into a nomination thread once we've laid out the groundwork. Stay on topic, otherwise your post will be deleted.

All I am trying to do is show that I'm not unreasonable and that I can be worked with. That's all.

United StatesCarcinogenSDA10 years ago

Seriously, that's a problem with the game. But really, this is why you should be going by IGT to begin with, because it is a better metric for this game than RTA. The community just kind-of defaulted to RTA because there is no final results screen, when really it's just a simple matter of adding all the IGTs for every chapter end.

That's perfectly clear deadhunter. Good job, you're taking the first step toward making things work. Start the thread.
