There is a huge time loss when starting Infinite Descent (ranging from 5-10 seconds) and further time losses per each death. I would LOVE to fix this lag, but it would take a LOT of effort; so I’m going to see if I can post a new build of the game which starts the timer from the moment the player actually gains control (possibly measuring from “first input”?) Thoughts / Suggestions?

The latest, crazy fast run by @hahhah42 relies heavily on the Instant Level Transition bug, which works by touching an already active checkpoint while holding down the "exit level" button (shift) while carrying an leaf you have never collected before. I just patched this out in v1.2.0d (published a couple minutes ago). Obviously this bug doesn't work on every level; but it does work on a lot. So here's the question; rather than patch this out; should "Speedrun Mode" allow this to work on any checkpoint? And while I'm at it; should it be just leaving levels, or entering them too? I sort of like the brief pause between levels, but I'd like to hear what everyone's preferences are.

So now that a few runs have come out with the Preview builds with significant variability between the IGT vs RTA, let me try to explain a bit better what's going on, and why I am hesitant to make the switch; IGT is a recording of frames; the game runs at 35 frames per second, and if it lags, no frame is counted, so that's a true measure of how many frames elapsed; this is why it drifts from RTA. RTA uses GameMaker's current_time, which should look at your actual CPU clock, and therefore does NOT account for lag; theoretically, it should line up with an external timing program. That said; if your PC runs slower, you'll have an "easier" time setting an IGT record, but a harder time setting an RTA record. This is why it's tricky to make the switch, I either end up favoring people with faster / slower PCs. Is this worth creating separate Leaderboards for IGT vs RTA? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Right now, you need all 15 leaves from every level to advance to the next world; would people be interested in running Any% versions of the game where you only need to collect 10 leaves per world, or in the extreme case; only 1 leaf per level? EDIT; Vote on your preference on the #worlds-within-worlds channel on the Discord! https://discord.com/invite/deX7xjdb6Q

Hello! I'm the developer of Worlds Within Worlds; a retro-platformer which I built to have an emphasis on accessibility and speedrunning! I hope people enjoy trying out my game (it's free in-browser on Itch.io) and consider giving it a speed-run attempt;

As the developer of this game, I’m looking out for feedback that will help improve the game, not just for speed-running, but in general! Please get in touch, either here or on my Discord to suggest ways I can improve the game. Here are some ideas I already plan on implementing;

  • In-Game Timer (be able to see the in-game time in a corner of the screen)
  • Speedrun Mode: Disables the fire in Level 1-1 which makes it easier to clear without the Butterfly AND shows your Personal Best for each Level on the Overworld

Aside from that, I’ll also consider shifting enemy placement, (like that one Mandiburn in 5-3 who is such a jerk), if there are enough requests for it.

Hello! I joined speedrun.com because I am the developer of Robo's World: The Zarnok Fortress, a game I made with speedrunning in mind. It's a 2D non-linear Action-platformer, every level is full of secret paths you can exploit to get the best time and defeat the evil Zarnok robots before they can destroy your home planet. I got feedback from speed-runners as I was building the game, and I'd love to hear what people think of it. If you'd like to do a run of the game, get in touch with me and I might be able to give you a Steam key, or you can grab it on Steam during the sale if it looks like something you might enjoy.
