those runs were submitted BEFORE we officially decided and voted on that ruleset. So I decided to keep those runs on the boards. Before that vote it was a kinda "unwritten" rule to not do it, but not forbidden! It is banned now to do it.

Hey Speedfriends! I updated the rules for Single Segment Speedruns Of "The Evil Within (1)".

Rules for ALL Main Game Categories:

-Category & Difficulty have to be shown in the VOD. (Selecting New Game or New Game+ & the difficulty MUST be included!)

-Final In Game Time has to be shown after Chapter 15! (Chapter 15 Clear Screen MUST be shown at the end of the run or the run will get rejected!)

-Loading Autosaves is not allowed in Single Segment Runs. (Loading Autosaves rewinds The In Game Time back to the last save. Obviously, this makes the Final In Game Time of a Single Segment Run inaccurate!) Note: IF loading the Autosave is your ONLY option to continue the run (Sebastian does not move anymore glitch or ch11 gondola glitch [press the lever then reload teh autosave to get access to the gondola]) you are allowed to load the Autosave and start from there. BUT if you "just" die or lose too much time on a certain part of the game loading the Autosave is banned. -"Pause-Trick" is not allowed in Single Segment runs. (mainly used on consoles before cutscenes. if you pause the game before a skippable cutscene, the In Game Timer gets stopped and the game loads the skip option during the pause. this also messes with the In Game Time and is NOT allowed in Single Segment runs!)

-Using the debug console (PC) for cheats etc is not allowed in Single Segment Runs. (Starting the run with cheats enabled or bringing up the console and using ANY cheat command during a Single Segment run will lead to a reject!) NOTE: If you decide to run the game at uncapped FPS, you can do that via the debug console or the TXT file. Please make sure to select "Unlocked" at the FPS dropdown menu if you submit a run with uncapped FPS! PLAYING WITH UNCAPPED FPS SPEEDS UP THE IN GAME TIME WHICH LEADS TO A HIGHER FINAL TIME SO IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED - 60FPS IS THE WA TO GO!

You can use "r_skipglare 1" command (or type it into the config file) This deactivates ALL post processing and makes the game look way better and perform smoother, especially on lower end PCs. I am currently trying it out if it saves time too in some areas!

-Fighting Chance Pack DLC is allowed for all main game categories. -Ch1 (early locker escape/Sadist Checkpoint Warp) Ch7 (Grenade Clip) & Ch11 (Fence Clip) Skips are allowed for all main game categories.

Watching a run and doing a run are 2 very different things in general. I don't recommend choosing a game for speedrunning with almost no knowledge of the game, even casually (your words) If you have no knowledge, practice or no idea to perform "basic glitches" i think the only thing you could try is glitchless child dungeons or glitchless any% to have some decent fun with the game and a nice curve.

I am not a runner of the game, but picking a game without knowledge can quickly become frustrating. I recommend you at least watch a lot of tutorials..

I understand that, but runs need video proof. And if runners remove all their videos they usually want to disappear on the boards or simply don't give a f*ck about them.

It is confusing and misleading, especially for new runners and people who are just interested enough to check the leaderboards.

I just checked the leaderboards and all of his videos are gone..? It seems that he shut down his youtube channel.

I am a devoted speedrunner from Austria, mostly "known" for my speedruns of The Evil Within! I am really having fun as I am writing this thread with Uncharted 4! I am currently on my 3rd playthrough of the game and I am really into exploring it! I learned the "boat clip" 5 minutes ago, as I am watching the WR run step by step while doing my 3rd playthrough! I am grateful for every little tip you can give to me for speedrunning this masterpiece of a game! I do own the disc version, so it might be good to run version 1.00? How should I use RTA for my upcoming streams of the game? (I know that RTA adds at least 30 minutes to the time, but splits are nice for the viewers and nice for me to have some references) Have a nice day, I hope I get some replies :)

Yes casual is the fastest difficulty for speedrunning TEW! It saves time in CH1 for example, because you don't have to lure the Sadist away, you can just run right in front of him (watch my Casual mode runs)

Ofcourse enemies are not really aggressive overall, and there are way less dangerous enemies like on Nightmare or Akumu (Ruvik Puppets in CH3 & CH4, Sniper in CH11, only 1 Ruvik Puppet in CH11, etc.)

Also casual mode has the fastest Machine Gun part in CH15 right before the last phase of the final boss fight! Cutcene triggers faster, because the boss takes less damage I guess! Also, if you are really lucky you can 1 shot the final boss during the last phase on casual mode (Happened to me 1-2 times when the game was released, idno if they patched it)

Should I/We add "all" the Segmented runs and WRs to the leaderboard?

So guys I was thinking about 100 % for quite some time now. My Thoughts so far:

• start New Game on Survival Mode (gel values)
• collect all keys+open all lockers (which means we have to kill CH10 Laura)
• collect all 28 map fragments
• collect & use all 5 (CH3, CH6, CH9, CH11, CH14) med-packs
• max out all of Seb's stats
• rescue the lady in CH4 and kill the giant pig
• kill Sentinel in CH6

I would not say that all notes, missing person flyers, newspapers and audio tapes are required, because there is no reward for collecting them.

What do you think?

General Shortcuts:

TEW = The Evil Within SS = Single Segment Seg = Segmented (Run) NG = New Game (start from a New Game file) NG+ = New Game+ (start with all unlockables, everything maxed out, etc. you can download a full NG+ Savestate for PC in the "Guides" section) IGT = In-Game-Time(r) RTA = Real Time Attack, using an external timer such as LiveSplit or Wsplit FCP = Fighting Chance Pack (every TEW runner needs it! :P) CH = Chapter, if you read CH3, CH10, etc. it simply means Chapter XX CS = Cutscene, "watch CS, skip CS" etc. RNG = Random Number Generator, you can simply call it luck. "The locker RNG (related to the items) is good today. AI = Artificial Intelligence, simply means behavior and reactions of enemies and your partners.

Weapons:

Gun = "Normal" Handgun we receive when finding Connelly, you can't skip/miss it. Bow = Agony Crossbow SG or ShoGu = Shotgun SR or just Rifle = Sniper Rifle RL = Rocket Launcher, NG+ only. Knuckles = Brass Knuckles, NG+ only MG = Machine Gun, NG+ only

Hi everybody, you may read about the pause trick while browsing the leaderboards.

What is the "Pause Trick"?

The Pause Trick can be (ab)used to manipulate the In-Game-Time(r) [short=IGT] It is not allowed to use it for Single Segment runs (no saves). I, personally have no problem with it, when people use it for Segmented runs, because on a Segmented run you HAVE to do everything, that cuts out IGT, (like reloading checkpoints to skip cutscenes and stuff like that) so the "Pause Trick" is just another technique to save In-Game-Time. It is nothing new, it exists in Resident Evil 4 aswell.

How this this work?

Everytime a skip-able cutscene comes up (skip cutscene by holding B or O) the IGT does not stop, for example in Chapter 1 at the very beginning, on console versions you have to watch the first CS until the police car makes a turn before you are able to finally skip it. But if you pause here, the IGT will stop and the cutscene will be loaded in the background, with shortens up the time at the chapter-end, because the timer simply stopped for a few seconds.

My name is Amawolf, 23 years old, from Austria. May some of you know me for my Resident Evil 4 Speedruns! I speedrun since April 2013 (RE4). I think I have a good eye and knowledge for tricks and glitches because I love to watch speedruns of other games and to understand what is going on!

But I really don't feel to play/run RE4 anymore for several reasons, maybe next year again..we will see

My main game for now is The Evil Within! I finished it in under 4 hours already! Don't get me wrong, there is so much room for improvement and glitches and stuff, but I am proud of it! So a TEW thread would be nice to find other runners or people who want to get their gameplay on a better level :)
