We will make that decision if/when it is appropriate. And for anyone viewing this thread, "we" means people who have a stake in the run and have not completely alienated themselves from the community, like connor unfortunately has (long story that is not relevant here). As a community decision, if/when we make said decision, appropriate measures will be taken to see what active and past runners think about what should be done as a legitimate community decision.

This will be handled on the Classic Sonic discord, so if you have knowledge of the run and want to have your say, should we actually make a poll or such, it will happen there. Said decision will, as previously mentioned, be community-based, so people who have irrevocably alienated themselves from the community through actions that are solely their own fault will not be considered.

I believe what Connor said is correct, but be advised that I am not a mod for this game, and as far as I am aware there is no formal decision regarding such runs. Also, Connor is not appreciated in the community because of repeated harassment of other community members, so use your best judgement on whether you trust him.

I set this one to not expire, so hopefully it doesn't...

He doesn't. Jumping does increase initial acceleration in most cases, but Mario's top speed is the same.

I completely missed this and I'm probably the one who has done the most work with glitches on the console version of the game. What I said about crouching and uncrouching isn't the complete story. You can essentially gravity clip through nonexistent floors, but you have to save and load to do so. That means you are guaranteed to fall a minimum distance after doing so, which is too far for some skips. For falling into the Normandy, for example, you have to fall directly into an area as it loads, and not get stuck on the ceiling above the main deck. It also means the Peak (whatever number it is) skip is all but impossible because you have to basically fall exactly in between the glass things above the tram - I got it once in about an hour of attempts. Fortunately, a fair number of skips still work, including the one that gets you to Chora's Den, because the first save/load you have to do in addition to what the PC version requires is followed by a long fall, and the other has a real floor right under it.

I won't make a stink about whatever we end up doing, but I also like just having newest and any for versions. It adheres to the doctrine of "keep it simple, stupid" and is fair enough overall. As for whether newest or any ends up the default, I have no strong opinion so long as it's easily visible which any given run is.

Got it under 45 seconds already. These skips are actually very reliable.

Confirmed also possible on PC:

You can actually save that OO2 problem. Basically you walk under the platform and as soon as you start going past the barrier, mash jump and hope you don't die. I don't have a video, but I managed it once.

As werster said, Tails and Sonic runs are very similar. In fact, the only difference between Sonic solo runs and Tails runs is that Tails is shorter, which really only affects the Wing Fortress slope glitch kill (you can't see Tails at all) and the 12-0 Death Egg kill is marginally easier (though tbh it is rather hard to notice). The more significant changes by far are that the Chemical Plant 2 skip is much harder with either Sonic solo or Tails, and you can't do the Metro 3 level wrap at all.

If you haven't done something like this, you aren't a NSMB runner (yes, even I have...).

I don't know if the xbone version will behave like the xbox/360 version, but if so the main detriment will be that you can't crouch and uncrouch to get past a ceiling. Zips may also be slightly different. My advice is to try everything in the PC run, see how feasible it is, and proceed accordingly. If you want to run glitchless that's fine. I personally would prefer "no glitch abuse" or "no major skips" but categories are something we can debate further when we have a better idea of what is possible from one version to another.

Update: I added TZA to the existing FFXII page, and if we decide to make a new page later, we can handle that then.

Michigan, USAAlecK476 years ago

For more context on this, we've been discussing this issue in the FFXII discord for a while now. I'm largely ambivalent on whether we create a new board for TZA or use the existing one (like FFX does with its remaster). The main concern is that we don't want some rando getting a hold of the board.

I've had it a couple times as well. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce it no matter how I tried. The same goes for every other runner of the game, AFAIK.

Light and I talked about a few things after my last post, and I made some changes. It may have taken me a while to actually type it up, but now I have. It's in the same doc that I linked above.

This time I'm actually quite confident it's solid.

The 100% route just came up in Discord, and I coincidentally just finished work on my version of the route (which I started way back in 2014, but let sit for a long time after I heard the crickets on the SDA forum). It focuses on cutting out mushroom houses more than minimizing map movement because that is almost always faster. There are a couple places in the route where you could get an item earlier and cut a bit or map movement (most notably the mega mushroom in world 6), but those are easy adjustments to make.

A lot of us would like to see glitchless or no glitch abuse as a category, myself included. We've tried to define it more than once, but the lines are actually quite hard to draw.

I think the PS2 composite cable is mine, actually. I'm short one, and I as tired as I was after my FF12 run I could see myself leaving it there.

In-game saves are allowed for races, but emulator savestates are not. Generally speaking you should reset for a game over regardless, but using those may be valid according to the rules as stated (but don't take my word for that). All that said, the timing rules may change soon, but that has yet to be determined, so in the meantime don't be afraid to run the game!
