TeePatt: sorry but no. there are likely kids here (as has been made apparent recently)

Most categories are fastest on Wii VC now due to recent discoveries, and you can homebrew both the English and JP versions of the game onto your Wii console, as well as the practice ROM. Again like Timm said, join the discord where we can more quickly answer your questions.

You can just buy 10 magic beans normally. You can BA your bean count to make it higher. However, to make it 41, it’s kinda tricky and you should just watch the video to see it.

I don’t know what setup you’re using, but I have some possible theories before I see the video on why it may be failing

1: (the most likely) You’re moving in between jumps. Release the stick to neutral while in midair and don’t move before each backflip, sidehop, roll, or other movement to make sure you stand still when you land.

2: Bad initial position

3: Bad initial angle. Maybe you don’t realize targeting a wall while pushing against it sets Link’s angle to face exactly with the wall.

Yeah I meant post it in here, but if you want to PM it to me my twitter, discord, and other things are in my profile

Basically you’re too close to the warp. If you have a video I may be able to see what you are doing wrong.

There is no video tutorial I know of on the entire route. I have videos on my channel for individual tricks, though, in a playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnQYLzPZ-JLXXkdsrN5Ff6SQiImnNVZ6f

The best you're going to get is the route spreadsheet which is at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UxkQeP4esWmEz5V3kSkNGoUP_aFfAJANBDI33wEPFWI/edit?usp=drivesdk

Basically a plateau routes guide:

-Magnesis Cryonis Stasis Bombs saves like 10 or so seconds and is the absolute fastest route if you do all the launch strats.

Otherwise:

-Magnesis Bombs Cryonis Stasis is the fastest route otherwise. -Bombs Magnesis Cryonis Stasis is the fastest route if you’re doing something else at Magnesis such as getting the Fire and/or Ice arrow chests.

No, a GameCube controller will work as well, assuming you’re playing on a Wii and it has GameCube ports. Y, Z, and X map to C Left, Down, and Right respectively as well. There are also N64 -> GameCube port adapters you can get it you want to use an N64 controller.

If it only supports browser source, you may be able to use Livesplit One at https://livesplit.github.io/LiveSplitOne/ if you want splits.

What program are you using? OBS and XSplit are what other people with timers typically use, is there any reason why you can’t use either of those?

Because you don’t run 3ds games on Citra.

It seems that you don't yet understand that high-level speedrunning isn't an attempt to replay a video game with a challenge, but rather an optimization problem where the runners will use anything and everything they have to solve it, including unintended mechanics and glitches. It reduces the game from a video game for entertainment to an problem to solve as optimally as possible, which is something many people understandably don't get at first. If you don't want to run the game that way, that's always fine, but know that these things are completely legal in the speedrun because these exploits and glitches exist within the game and aren't accessed using some outside, unintended cheating device, and therefore should not be banned.

This is exactly the reason for categories such as Glitchless, which this game doesn't have a leaderboard for, but many other games do. This game probably just doesn't have enough people who would want to run a glitchless category competitively. But do realize that even in such a category, runners will use and abuse everything within the ruleset to go as fast as possible, whether their actions are considered intended play or not.

Super Mario Odyssey barely scratches the surface with how much speedrunners will break games to go faster. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an example of a game with a huge variety of glitches at the disposal of runners. Speedruns of that game are so broken to the point where the original game isn't even recognizable anymore in a speedrun with so many things being done out of order and in unintended ways in many of its categories (Any% wrong warps from the first dungeon to the end of the game, the category that bans wrong warps manipulates the inventory to have the items required for the end of the game to start, and the category that bans both of those glitches skips all but two (and a half) dungeons)

Anyway, you should probably ask questions such as these in the Discord, which is under ‘Resources’

I should say pressing B just as link starts to fall when he has his sword out. He takes some time to pull sword if he doesn’t have it out which delays his jumpslash.

United StatesAceZephyr6 years ago

My cue for this is to press B right when Link just begins to fall

You may check a guide (there’s no reason why you wouldn’t be allowed to, since it’s not part of the game or the run itself). You may pause the game (runners do that to exit DDD and go back to the lobby after it and BitFS are completed). You may not pause the timer, since that would make the run no longer RTA (of course if you do pause the timer, the run could be retimed and that time would be used instead. The point of RTA is that the run is done in one sitting.). Idk what the community’s stance on alerts that cover the screen, but if you plan on having an alert, please keep it off of the game screen, or at least small and in a corner of it.

Most people start running this game doing 16 star, from what I can gather (i don't actually run this game lol). It's not a very difficult category to get started with, and it's rather short, so there's not a lot you'd have to learn. Additionally, you don't need to do cannonless in some easier routes, which is good because you don't have a down notch which is basically required for the setup.

Yeah, Wii VC is good, but JP Wii VC and Wii U VC are the Shindou version of SM64, which fixes BLJs. If you get English it should still be fine though.

(Note: if replying on mobile, don’t tap post multiple times even if it stops responding, because it will post multiple times)

United StatesAceZephyr6 years ago

The control stick hole doesn’t have divots on the top, bottom, left, right, and diagonals (like a GameCube or N64 controller), which are called notches and are useful for setups that require you to hold a precise angle on the stick, like cannonless, and is instead smooth all around. iirc is ‘if I recall correctly’

Sword, shield, navi dive escape, buy a magic bean, roll to kakariko, die (if dying resets navi), navi dive to BotW, actor glitch, dead hand, vine clip, chu chest, double Savewarp, enter DC, get bombs glitchless, exit, Savewarp, enter deku, break web, B1 skip somehow, ghoma, Bomb yourself to die afterwards, then go back down and do damage OI ganondoor with the magic bean, then beat the game.

I don’t think vine clip requires you to target but I feel like I am wrong.
