BTW, I should point out that in some of my messages above, I never meant to imply that Unity running is anything less worthy than DSDA; when I referenced classic Doom runs WRT to attitude towards this site, I was specifically referencing source runs (AKA involving demos). Unity is a perfectly valid means to submit your runs.

Any% isn't a real thing for source Doom. That's just the way it is. I can say that adding an option to support any% or ITYTD runs is something that we have in the backlog of tasks for DSDA, but it's not something I can guarantee as it's a lot of work to add. Nomo E1 is very simple: https://www.dsdarchive.com/wads/doom is the page for Doom 1, click the map select dropdown, select Episode 1 (https://www.dsdarchive.com/wads/doom?level=Episode+1), nomo is at the bottom.

Like I said before, if you care enough to run Doom through demos on source, you can run UV or PWADs, which is a valid form of competition. No one is entitled to their favorite category to exist on the board. If you really want to run any% or other skills, feel free to run Unity. Points are taken that navigation of DSDA can be improved, and this will be worked on at some point, hopefully, provided that someone with enough free time takes on the effort.

And yeah, you need to submit through Doomworld. Making an account on Doomworld is as simple as making one on speedrun.com. It's not ideal, but creating a separate upload process is not trivial when the majority is already using a specific format; even if I created a form on DSDA, how would I validate existing players runs? Would everyone need to create an account? How do I verify that someone creates an account for their actual name? It's more effort, and the current process is not that hard to do and uploads happen pretty quickly, usually. Again, if you really want to run Doom, the hoops you have to jump through are not that significant. People have submit runs for this game for 30 years, and they're certainly not slowing down just because it's not on speedrun.com.

Probably my last post in this thread. If you need help with submissions, join the Discord, either the source one for DSDA submissions or the Unity ones for the Unity boards.

It's false that the design hasn't changed; it has, and it's much better than it used to be. Please stop spreading misinformation; it's ridiculous how much nonsense is being posted to this thread.

In order to get to the E1M1 leaderboard, you go to the home page, click the d, scroll down to the wad called Doom, and you're there. It's 3 clicks and a bit of scrolling, should not be a big deal. If you really don't want to deal with DSDA, like I said, there's the Unity section for speedrun submissions more similar to other games. Of course, DSDA could be better about navigating to the IWADs and other features, and this will hopefully happen someday, but stuff like this takes time and volunteer effort.

All of the moderation work is voluntary. Verifying Doom demos is non-trivial work, and especially tricky if there is no demo file. I spend enough time verifying demos for DSDA, I don't need to do more unpaid labor in my life.

The DSDA board and Unity ports section on sr.com are the standard places to submit runs for Doom, whether you like it or not. I don't know how often people submit runs here, but DSDA is literally more active in the past few years than any other years in history; I think 12 thousand+ demos in a single year is hardly a dead game and is probably more active than most speedrun communities in existence.

As Andrea pointed out, PBs are welcome, leaderboards exist; it does cover a lot of WADs, but just navigating to the IWADs shouldn't take too long. The only other thing that sr.com made possible that isn't on DSDA is a definition of any%/lower than UV running. Such demos are accepted to DSDA, but currently placed into Other. This isn't a permanent state, and any% and other skill running may come to DSDA someday, but it requires some time to work on making it convenient for everyone.

That said, there's no reason that source Doom speedrunning should work like any other game; just because modern conventions dictate that people should run on the lowest difficulty, doesn't mean that we should. If you want to remove the challenge of UV, you can always run on nomo or choose PWADs with easier maps or less optimized tables.

If you need help submitting to DSDA, the Discord always exists and can take a look at your submission. It's really not too complicated once you get the hang of it. In general, moderating a leaderboard, verifying runs, etc., all take time and effort. If you, as a submitter, aren't willing to put in the effort to make submissions that match the current standard of the community, why should anyone put in the effort to verify your runs for free? Basically no one in the general source Doom speedrun community takes this site seriously, and no one wants to take the time to verify hundreds of submissions via a method that is meaningless to the community, especially of videos that are incredibly hard to verify for Doom without the demo file. Given all that, having no board really made sense a long time ago; it was only through Tezur0's voluntary effort that it was being maintained this long, and nowadays, I don't think anyone is going to step up to do that.

If you don't want to email, you can post on Doomworld's Doom Speed Demos forum, and it will automatically make it there: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/37-doom-speed-demos/. You don't need to email an account creation there. More intuitive leaderboards are coming with DSDA 3: https://www.dsdarchive.com/.

All of the records from the IL leaderboards are mirrored at the DSDA, so the only losses were PBs, and probably the majority just random E1M1 demos from people who didn't submit anything else afterwards. They were not kept up to date, and the task of doing that would be a headache and a lot of effort for something of limited value IMO, when much more pressing tasks like bringing up DSDA 3 or even writing some guides or anything else for this community is still needed.

I understand you're used to speedrun.com and want to use it, but likewise, the majority of the active player community for this game is used to DSDA, so please understand the rationale behind this decision; we're just trying to unify this community and avoid disconnects between too many different leaderboards as has been the case since the leaderboard here was created.
