While it's encouraged to play on the old HW, it should really be at the core of the whole endeavor, a few things are worth noting:

  • Nobody had done that in the 8 years the game have been around here, which isn't surprising given the fact that the game itself and the associated HW are over 30 years old.
  • Although not totally unexpected, seeing new runs played on the Genesis HW is both nice and problematic. Nice because that's how we old player started out, Problematic because of the ROM cheats that the few machines still running might harbor (even unbeknownst to the current owner).
  • Playing on the Sega Genesis directly places you outside the rules. You aren't complying, you aren't breaking them.
  • Because the rules don't apply, manual and meticulous verification is called for.
  • In practice, this means that an admin will need time to perform verification, Not just days, but weeks. Case in point, the very first run submitted, Atreides 9, has been pending for a couple of weeks, but only now that I've finished the level I was playing, can I even begin to look at it.
  • In conclusion, if you still have a working machine, please play your runs on it, just be ready to wait a good while for it to be verified.

To regular runners, I mean.

The old runs were migrated to the new game, but the forum remains, which means that anything specific to the Genesis version is still there:

Obviously, any new comments about the Sega port of the game, belong here.
