Leaderboard Update (3/26/22)
Posted 2 years ago by

As the result of a recent development for PS3/X360, we have now decided to split Any% into two different categories. We now have Any% No Position Storage and we have Any%. Let's talk about that.

3/23/22 brought us the discovery of Position Storage thanks to a video by a runner named ToxicPinHead. The basic example for it is shown here:

To sum up the setup, you have to play with autosave disabled, which makes this trick currently impossible on PS3, which forces autosave no matter what. Next thing you do is press start and the Y button at the same time over a light beam to the next level. You then hit exit game, and that instead brings you to the level you're going to and your position is saved from the hub world, so most of the time without proper setup, you'll be spawned out of bounds. You can actually set it up to be spawned in certain positions, which skips out big chunks of levels. We now finally have a use for the infamous Homer Fly Glitch, which was never used in a speedrun before, cause now you can just float up anywhere you want, get the correct position, do the setup, and then you'll be warped.

Unfortunately, if we let this be allowed in the normal Any% category, PS3/X360 runners wouldnt really be able to compete with each other anymore, thanks to it being platform exclusive. We had no choice but to split, so that way, we have at least one form of Any% anyone can play and compete in, no matter what they're on.

Few other things to note, Position Storage is banned from all individual level categories relating to PS3/X360, as that is pre-run setup and not comparable to doing it through the Episodes & Challenges menu. The rules have also been rewritten to be much more clearer.

Thank you all for reading, happy running!
