Any% Guide

**__This is as of December 18, 2020. When new strategies come, I will update this guide.__**

#**General**
I'd recommend you use LiveSplit to time your runs due to its ease of use and customizable hotkeys, though other alternatives exist that you may wish to use. While a timer is not required, it helps the moderators check through your run more quickly. You don't have to be very precise, as timing is to the second and is truncated.

This guide assumes you are using the default controls as these are interchangeable. This means:

Arrow keys - Movement
Z and Enter - Interact

The headings here correspond to the splits that I personally use.

#**To completion of Tauriel's classroom**
Much of this speedrun is spent waiting for dialogue to finish. To do this, you may quickly hit Z and/or Enter very rapidly to save as much as possible.

It helps to memorize approximately how long it takes before you get to where Tauriel asks if you have questions. You must remember to hit the last one on the list, which can be done by pressing Up. It also helps to memorize the terminals here especially well for a strong start.

The hardest bit of this part of the run is the terminal where the player is introduced to cryptic symbols. You must perfectly type the first row out, then rapidly hit the spacebar until you complete the terminal once. Once you master the first line four times in this terminal, you will get an S and end the test prematurely, saving more than 5 seconds.

Once Tauriel leaves and Doggo says she wants to speak with you, don't. Immediately head for the open door and do not bring him along. If you do, there will be a time loss of more than 5 seconds due to cutscenes.

#**The next six tests**
Immediately head for the door on the right at the end of the hallway. Once you reach the first room of tests, touch the terminals at the bottom of their sprite to easily move between the first four that you will take in a linear motion to the right.  If you wish or must, you may grab the gloves for safety. It helps to memorize these as these are definitely used in your run.

Once you complete these four, go to the next room up, then do the first two tests before exiting those rooms of tests. Do the final test and continue. An alternate route for those with exceptionally good timing is to do only the first in the next room, then go back and do the bottom terminal.

#**The next five tests**
You may grab the advanced gloves if you wish at the cost of ~5 seconds for safety.  The first two tests are easy to do fast as there are no obstacles, the other three you may need to be careful on. There's not very much to say that isn't this.

#**The competition**
Remember that you don't need to try in this competition because you can still win with no points. You can use this time to do whatever you wish. This is practically one long cutscene.

#**The test**
Remember the fact that the format of the test is the same. If you've got an S on every terminal up to now, you may go for S-Rank% as well as Any% by getting a perfect C on the test.

Remember the order of the challenges of the test, these being the BULLETS, the LASERS, the BULLETS, the MISSILES, and the LASER. Find yourself a pattern to what you can.

#**After**
Do what you can to quickly get home and to your room to complete the game. Timing ends when the credits start.

The Hardest Part of Over 9000% is the Handcuff and 100%
100% Means you have to do all Terminals...
Handcuffs give you less time on Terminals, Stop you from using gloves, and make you take 5 damage per hit by projectile/laser.

Also it is very hard and I sometimes took up to 5 minutes to master a single terminal.

How to do Tauriel's Encrypted Symbols Test

This one is definitely the hardest test of all, it can make or break a speedrun.

The way to beat it is to type to top line then pressing space to fill in the two space lines. Effectively giving you 2 more points each cycle. Meaning you will have to do this 3-4 times till you beat the test. You need to beat it for S-Rank%

In Any% Beating it will greatly improve your time as some can't do this test do to its difficulty.

To beat it faster when you get to the bottom row, have one of your hands on 6 keys, press them all at the same time then space fast. Then 4 at same time, then space. Finally 5 keys at the same time (No space at end).

How to Get Handcuffs! For Handcuff%

Handcuff% is one of the misc. speedruns. To obtain the handcuffs, you must first beat the game then press 'New Game' you can tell that this is done when Doggo says something about Dejavu when you first talk to him. The handcuffs are in the first room of the school. They look like normal gloves and can be equipped like one. Different characters remark on how you are wearing handcuffs which can sometimes make the game longer. The handcuffs make you take 1 more damage from projectiles (bullets and homing missiles) and lasers. The default being 4 so you take 5 damage. It is also hard because you can't change into gloves which overall make the game much easier as each level of gloves helps reduce damage from projectiles and lasers.

Nipple% - Going in Blind

For Nipple%, you'll know you're almost there once you get to the Teacher's Lounge, the blue room with a vending machine and two exits on either side. After you get through Tauriel's dialog, you have to turn into the room on the right, which is the cafeteria, and from here you just have to go down and talk to the black cat, and they should ask what it's like to have two nipples after about two speech boxes. Again you do have to finish the conversation to complete the run.

S-Rank%

If you are trying to S-Rank% Please read the updated rules.

Main tests include every test you have to take meaning no optional ones have to be taken. The test with the Symbols is very hard yet possible if you see my Speedrun Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z62O2TwagMU 

The Competition with Doggo is currently just beating him meaning you don't have to hit a certain score. I will update this if you have to hit a minimum such as 100 or such.

The Final Fight against the Principal you have to get a no-hit run. Even though you get a C for getting no-hit, that is the rules. You can redo the Principal fight after to get an C-Rank (Basically S-Rank) However you aren't allowed to use the esc key to escape if you accidentally get hit meaning that each retry adds a minute to your time.

Getting gloves can help you for all of the tests (excluding the Final Fight and Tauriel's first 3)

The strategy for the Symbols one is doing the top row all correct then getting the 2 spaces on the next row very quickly, you have to do this about 3-4 times without any mistakes, as mistakes on the top row -1 points and use up 1 so overall is kind of like -2. On my Speedrun Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z62O2TwagMU I manage to do it, it takes a lot of practice and at first I thought you had to have like 20cps to do it. I only have about 4cps so you should be able to do it too.

Tauriel Teaches Typing Doesn't Really Help you Learn Typing

As the Game's Difficulty seems to go from 1-100 very fast, I suggest that you instead try to use some different online typing practice to learn the basics. For example the game doesn't teach you about how important that 'F' and 'J' are pivotal locations on QWERTY Keyboard. The game is fun and helps your practice but it really doesn't 'Teaches' you to type.

When Submitting Speedruns

When submitting speedruns don't spam the submit button at the bottom because it sends multiple copies of the same speedrun. Please do not do this. It is a pain for the moderators to review.
