Why do you need an FPS overlay for Ultrakill speedruns now?

I don't understand what this achieves for verifying runs

it's to avoid people cheating, and I believe it allows the verifiers to ensure the run is completed on a legitimate version of the game. additionally, i'm pretty sure that it'd help verifiers be able to tell if a run is spliced or not, since Ultrakill is extremely easy to splice runs of. previously, there was a brief rule that required top 3 runs to provide a session recording, but many people were unhappy with this change, meaning this is the (arguably much better) alternative.

if anyone else (preferably someone that's actually a verifier) has any corrections to make, let me know :3

it helps as an anticheat method. i am not going to reveal how it helps because that would make it easier to bypass

it's a way to prevent cheating. "how" it does isn't exactly known (and won't be anytime soon), but just keep it on and be happy that we don't need to upload 3+ minute session recordings for everytime we do submit a top 3 run (cause dear god, that was awful.)
