This guide covers all you need to know (That is currently known. Questions are welcome. This guide will be updated as needed.) for speedrunning (Also casual play to an extent) Snowboard Racers 2 for the PS2.
Introduction: Snowboard Racers 2 is a PAL exclusive title for the PS2 and (Allegedly) PS3 featuring 4 racers, 4 terrain types and 6 tracks. Snow, deep snow, rock and ice are the four terrains, snow has average speed and makes up most of the courses, deep snow slows your movement, rock is the slowest of the lot and ice is the fastest but also the most difficult to control, ideally you’d want to stay on ice at all times and keep control. The four racers have their own stats and alternate costumes, 2 girls and 2 boys, balance, turning, speed and a jack of all trades. There’s very little that can be said about the tracks other than 3 are locked at the beginning.
Q&A Q: What are the controls? A: X is to jump, square breaks (Which is useless), O is to drift which is good on ice and triangle gives a small boost which is perfect on wide, long paths. Other than that you only have the control stick and start to pause the game.
Q: How do I unlock the character skins? A: You can unlock 1 every 3 stars (Beating the default record of the game)
Q: Which character is the best? A: I personally use the speed character for speedrunning but you’re welcome to see if the game is easier for you with another.
Q: How do I unlock the other tracks? A: You need to win in a CPU match. (I believe anyway, I only unlocked A2 but I don’t see why it would be different for the other courses)
Q: I can’t seem to beat the default record, what do I do? A: Currently it is most optimal to get lots of air time and stay on ice, you gain speed when falling and when on ice, the fastest is when you jump off ice into the air, other than that you can only practice routing the paths to avoid rocks and deep snow.
