I wasn't sure if you can request categories, but i think this would be fun so i figured i'd post it here. I believe this would add a unique way to run super meat boy on the switch, due to the fact that band-aids and warp zones skip levels. Let me know what you think

found a glitch where you can skip with 0 band aids and it gives you over 200. if this does become a category this glitch can not be allowed in a run

the leaderboards already have a category wherein you load a chapter and just play straight through levels 1 through 20. you can find the category for each world by clicking level leaderboard, selecting the chapter, and then selecting "individual world" from the list.

however, it seems like race mode on the switch is rather different from that. this puts us in a bind, since nobody on the mod team actually has a switch, so we're hearing about race mode second-hand.. can you detail the glitch you found?

just some weird glitch on the switch when your band aid count goes to 0 in race mode you can skip a level and it takes you to 254 band aids. this is not good considering in race mode you can spend 2 band aids to skip a level. race mode starts with all characters unlocked and warps zones can send you back a level, send you forward 1-2 levels, or even send you back to the first level of the world. its fun because of the rng factor. if it cant become an actual category it's no big deal.

Has there even been a single switch run submitted for any category at all? It's a pain in the dick trying to record switch gameplay. For nearly every game, categories are only made after runs are completed and there is a need for it.

I'll try to record something but I'd like to get more info on how to do the glitch. Gonna try now.

Edit:

I mean, as long as the category doesn’t accept that glitch I don’t see why not to allow a few switch players to run it, however few

I agree. I'd say let him post his runs first and then create the category based on that; Just like if you were requesting a new game added to the site, you are first required to already have a speedrun video of the game.

Depends how many run the category. Not every category needs to have an entry on this site. The leaderboard is already quite cluttered as it is.

I will purchase an elgato and submit a run to this thread in hopefully a week or so. Like you guys said if no one else runs it what is the point of having the category. Also congrats shredberg on your All chapter race% ww.

Also every miscellaneous category that does exist caters to pc players. Us console players do not have a category for us. So even if I couldn't compete I'd be happy to see a category for switch.

Yarmyyy thank you. It took minutes of really grinding to getting to where I am today in that category.

There is a reason why they all cater to pc players, just look at the distribution of players on pc vs on consoles.

  OmniferousSwanOmniferousSwan

The distribution is completely arbitrary because if it was directly related to the % of players there would be 1-2 console categories obviously because probably about 10% or more players are on console.

Edit: I'm not able to find exact console numbers for 2018.

When SMB was released it sold 33% as many copies on Xbox alone as it did on pc. Super meat boy was free on ps4 so it likely had many hundreds of thousands as well. And when it came out on the switch it produced the same numbers as when it was released on Xbox.
About 2.5 million owners on pc and 1 million on console.

I meant the distribution of players on the leaderboards of course, the number of owned copies is irrelevant.

The vast majority of players are on PC here, the misc categories naturally catering more to pc players is just a consequence of that, because they were only created and ran by them (although light level and any% alt doesn't work only on pc).
If five or ten console players had ran and asked for a spelunky% or something to be on there it would certainely.
That's why Matte is saying only numbers of runners on the lbs count. They're the only ones that are gonna be involved and interested by those changes / discussions / new (misc) categories.

I think this doesn't have to be about console or pc specific categories (especially cause race mode is also coming to pc at some point); at best all categories are all inclusive but the current miscs often use 3rd parties or stuff you can't do on console, naija% has it's own savefile if you want to be competitive, Ogmo% uses third party to just run the category, ...
But more about the actual interest regarding this possible new category (by those who can run) it as it was said prior to this.
