Explanation of the various bugs and glitches found in Shinobi 3 using this linked compilation video which has the video on CoolHandMike's Youtube channel.
- Rapid Kunai : Use by alternating Attack and Jump. The jump cancels the attack which quickly allows another attack.
- Rapid Close Range Attack : When Joe has Power and uses his sword, you can alternate Attack then Jump to cancel the attack to quickly attack. Note that the rapid close range attack requires Joe to be very close to the enemy, because initially the hurtbox of that attack is very close to Joe's body. Note that the normal attack with the kunai does not work with this rapid attack technique.
- Wall Zip : Down Kick Towards wall when upper body is in corner of ceiling. To stay zipping Joe needs to be doing an action. One that works for the TAS is to repeatedly do Jump then immediately do a Down Kick.
- Kunai Ceiling Wall Jump Clip: Wall jump, attack and hold opposite direction from movement then release the directional when inside the ceiling. Rapidly pressing Jump, then Down + Attack for the down kick will increase height while in wall. This also works through electric ceilings in Final Confrontation. Try to press the opposite direction when you are as high as possible in the ceiling.
- Moving Into and Out of Walls: While in the wall, hold left to move right, and hold right to move left. Press B then C to stand up if crouching while in wall. Crouching has slower movement so standing is better.
- Running Out of Some Walls: Some corners allow Joe to exit a wall by running if he is near the edge. If running out of wall and jumping this will result in a running jump which can be useful. However this is rare and when and why this is the case is unknown. Buffering the initial run press with another action with an attack seems to work pretty consistently to run out of a wall zip if the timing is right however.
- Kunai Clip Skipping Wall Jump Animation: Jump and when pressing up against the wall press B + C. Joe will go up into the ceiling, but this is more difficult than the standard Kunai ceiling clip that uses the wall jump. Does this does not give Joe any extra height unlike a wall jump so this trick is more useful for low ceilings.
- Ceiling Clip Without Kunai: Kunai are not necessary, but it gives the player much more time to perform since the close range attack that is used without kunai is much more brief.
- Clip Into Invisible Ceiling: Using Fushin makes this much easier since the required height necessary to break through the invisible ceiling at the top of stages is much stricter than normal ceilings. Fushin is the jump ninjitsu that increases jump height.
- Extended Ceiling Hang: While hanging from the ceiling, move left or right and Joe can move off of the current ceiling. However Joe can hang in mid air if you press attack right before he actually moves to the new location while holding up. While holding up Joe can then jump up reaching places previously not possible.
- Jump After Falling Standing Attack: If Joe walks off the ledge there are a couple frames where you can input normal ground actions. When you do not have power the close range physical attack has two parts which allows a good fall distance. After the second attack it is possible to then jump in mid air.
