This is intended to be a short guide that briefly explains the basic tricks used in Shining Force 2 speedruns, because no guide currently exists here. First and foremost, Turbo Mode. This is one of several options accessible from the configuration menu. Access this menu by doing the following inputs during the Sega logo when the game starts: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, B. Also, you must be holding start when you finish naming your main character, or selected the game you are loading. All other options must be set to no.

The Movement Glitch: If you have an ally at the end of your character's movement range in battle, you can Press C as you enter the tile they occupy to slide over them into the next tile in that direction. This only works to the right and down. You cannot movement glitch to the left or up.

The Half-Tile Movement Glitch: Also called the Half-Step. This one is very difficult to explain in text. In certain circumstances, you can change directions as you're sliding over your ally's spot if the tile beyond is also occupied. This makes it look like your character is between two tiles. One of the tiles you are trying to go between must be a legal space for you to move to, otherwise you won't be able to move in that direction. It's much easier to figure out if you see it. Early Roft: This trick is only worth mentioning because it's cool, and because the video also shows the Movement and Half-Step Glitches. It is no longer used in the speedrun. You can move Bowie out on to the water near the tunnel that leads to Parmecia in order to reach the town of Roft after Battle 6, in the field after escaping Galam Castle. You can see the trick being done by watching this video.
