I hope someone is around to help, but hello everyone

I used to run this game not long after it came out on Wii U, but i stopped playing due to lack of interest around the time people were first discovering the Potion Drop/Food Float glitches. For the most part i understand them, and know how to apply them. However specifically with temple skip, i find i only get one of 3 outcomes: I go back into the previous loading zone. I basically obtain no height, and Shantae doesn't even peak above the floor. Or I start with good height, use the cannon to jump and I lose nearly all forward momentum and am unable to use the hat. I really want to get back into speedrunning this game would love any possible help anyone could give me, thanks!

The trick is timing for that skip.

Best method is do the charge and potion drop. Keep right pressed when you do the drop and you should see Shantae's hair skirt back into the screen. When you see it, double tap jump to get one cannon shot to lift her over the ground, cannon again at peak and then launch your parachute. Use the third cannon shot to ensure you get enough height to make it to the purple block so that you can return in bounds. It's hard to really explain and just takes practice, but I hope that helps.

So, the Purple Block is widely known as the game's true boss. The method to breaking it is jump and pistol at the same time. It can happen quickly or take its time, but the method works.

i notice the runs get it on first try, if i don't get it the first time am i soft locked in the hole?

Not at all. Keep mashing for it. Most don't get it first try, but doesn't mean that you don't get in the mix. Average is probably 4-5 tries.
