SAS 2 Speedrun Any% Guide + Tips and Tricks
Hey there! I've put together my knowledge from my 2000+ attempts of this speedrun to create this guide. I hope this helps!
Stage 1: Early game
The first three tournaments is where you will have the most resets and ultimately the biggest room for time save. However there is room for flexibility and you can choose between of these 3 strategies to fit your style:
Current World Record strat
8 Agility 3 attack Level 1
27 Agility 7 attack 2 magicka by level 7
10 Magicka at level 9
Faster but more risky strat
7 agility 4 attack Level 1
15 agility 8 attack at level 4(can afford 10 attack before level 9)
21 agility 9 attack 10 magicka by level 8
13 attack at level 9
Balanced strat
7 agility 4 attack level 1
15 agility 8 attack by level 4
24 agility 10 attack 2 magicka by level 7
10 magicka at level 9
First things first, enchant your rusty knife with a level 3 enchant. You want to have 4481 gold to purchase a yew bow before the first tournament. The amount of gold/xp a gladiator gives you is dependent on the gear that they have. You will need to fight gladiators with good weapons and low armor. I'd recommend only fighting gladiators with up to 12/15 armor, as any higher requires too much rng (Sometimes gladiators will have armor called "None", and when one of those pieces gives 1 or 2, it will actually give double that amount in the fight). You will quickly learn how much money and xp you get from what gear setups, Which is important to know so you can minimize the amount of luck needed.
You wont need to buy any armor until level 7. Use whatever money you have after buying your sword and bow to buy gear, but try to buy as few as possible.
Tip: If you have enough money, I'd recommend just buying a chestplate. It should do the job and also has the damage to energy perk, which can save you from sleeping some turns and losing time.
Stage 2: Tournaments 4-7
By here you have got past the most difficult part of the speedrun. You will have enough damage to kill all your enemies in this segment, and the only thing that stops you is your accuracy. I'd recommend having 60 agility by level 21, but if you wish to have extra attack, you can settle with having one of the other 2 crossbows. You'll want to purchase some armor for the 6th tournament, as Wizard Sagan can do a lot of damage with his spells.
Stage 3: The rest of the game
After you reach 60 agility, ALL of your skill points should go into attack. The main skill based time saves past this point are how fast your clicks are in between each fight, and if you level up before an arena champion during a tournament. For armor, it is only worth having just over 800 total armor and health combined to ensure that you do not get 1 shot by Emperor Antares' Molten Death. If you wish, you can try spending your excess gold on enchanting your bow. This may save you some time and rng against gladiators with a lot of health, healing potions, etc.
Extra Tips:
Make sure to minimize the amount of trips you do to the armoury to save as much time as possible.
Have. Patience. You will have plenty of attempts where you wont even get past John the Butcher or even make it to him. However, once you break through the first three tournaments, the speedrun is actually pretty fun to pull off.
That's all. If you plan on trying this out, I would recommend completing a casual run first, just to learn the ropes and understand how everything works. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!
