Basic Strats Guide

== Fast Climbing ==
While climbing, you can jump and immediately move forward in order to quickly gain some height without losing much stamina. By doing this over and over, you can climb just about any wall in the game with the default amount of stamina, and it's also faster than normal climbing. Having the right rhythm of button presses takes some practice though. If you repeat the cycle of jumping and moving forward too quickly, you waste stamina and it's slower than it could be.

== Load Screen Moving ==
After fast-travelling, the game is usually done loading a few seconds before the loading screen ends. This is indicated by your cursor disappearing. At that point, you can already move around, call Simoon etc., just without seeing or hearing it. It's a good idea to memorize where Simoon is for each fast-travel point so you can mount her while the loading screen is still up.

== Boosted Jump ==
When reaching the top of a wall, if you jump during the end of the 'getting to the top' animation, you will jump in the direction you're looking with a lot of speed after the animation is over.

== 60fps Trick ==
After starting the game, the fps defaults to 30 and only adjusts to your actual settings after you open any menu, i.e. the clothing, inventory, quests, map, or settings tab (both in-game and from the main menu). In the pre-3.6 category, there is a clip about 1.5 minutes into the run that only works on 30fps. So if you prefer playing on 60fps (which is the maximum allowed), you can restart the game for each attempt and don't open any menu until after the clip. As soon as you open the map to fast-travel, the game adjusts to 60fps for the rest of the run.

== Stamina Refilling ==
Your stamina will not refill during a cutscene if you're sprinting or in the air while triggering it. However, if your stamina is in the process of refilling when you start the cutscene, it will keep refilling during it. The same applies to riding Simoon. So it's a good idea to briefly stop sprinting when triggering a cutscene or mounting Simoon so that you have full stamina at the end.

== Cancelling Landing Animation ==
You can always jump while on solid ground, which cancels any animation you might be in. This is especially useful after falling from great height and forgetting to soften the landing by gliding briefly. Just don't move while jumping, otherwise the animation will continue playing.

== Dialogue Spamming ==
On PC, any dialogue box can be skipped by pressing E or LMB. To significantly speed up dialogues, spam both of these at the same time.

Changing & Restoring Save Files (Steam)

Despite what the in-game prompt tells you, save files are never overwritten when creating a new save. They are, however, not accessible through the menu anymore. This guide will tell you how to restore old save files as well as how to insert someone else's save file.

== Locating Your Save Files ==
Your save files should be located roughly at "C:\Users\User\AppData\LocalLow\Shedworks\Sable\SaveData" (you might need to change "User" for something else).

You can also locate it in the following way:
1. Press Windows + R
2. Type "%appdata%" and hit enter. This will open the Roaming folder
3. Navigate to the parent folder, "AppData"
4. Go to "LocalLow" -> "Shedworks" -> "Sable" -> "SaveData"

== Finding Your Old Save File ==
Depending on how many saves you've created, your save folder might be very full. Default save files have names like "sable_data_########" ending in a random string of characters, which means that there's very little to go on if you want to find a specific save file. If you know when you last played it, you can find it by sorting by modification date. The file size also gives some indication of how much a save file was played (e.g. the more things are in your inventory, the larger the file). Other than that, you'll just need to try the next step for different files until you find the right one.

== Making a Save File Playable ==
First of all, you need to paste the save file into the "SaveData" folder. If you want to restore an "overwritten" save file, this is already the case. Next you need to edit the "SaveManager" file using any text editor. What we care about are the three blocks that look something like this:

These represent the three save slots that we have access to in the game (in the same order). All you need to do is change the line containing "ID". E.g. if the save file you want to play is called "Special Save File.json", that line should be changed to

	"ID: "Special Save File.json"

Just to be clear, the save file doesn't need to end in ".json" or similar, but if it does you need to include it in this line. The other three lines are updated once you play that save file and save it (apart from the play time, since it isn't stored in the save file).

You can also rename your save files to just about anything you want, as long as you also change the corresponding "ID" line.

== Editing Save Files ==
Save files are just text files. In particular, they have a JSON format, which is just a fancy way of storing information. If you want to edit save files, I suggest you use an editor that knows what JSON is (e.g. Notepad++), since this can make navigating the file easier. Writing an exhaustive guide about what you can do would take too long, but these files aren't too hard to get your head around.

How To Change To An Older Version (Steam)

Since different game versions allow for different strats, it has become somewhat important to distinguish in which version you're playing. Currently, the most important versions are 3.5 for any% and 3.6.11 for all-masks.

To change version, head to the game folder. You can find it on Steam by right-clicking the game > Manage > Browse local files. Delete everything or move it to a seperate folder (this will not affect your save files and settings). Now download the version you'd like to play on and move all the files into the game folder and you should be done.
