I feel this forum thread has gone way beyond it's purpose; people are upset, they voice it here, but we all need to do better.
Let me just put it out there, I have no bias or preference one way or the other. I am a runner of this game and I see what's going on in the community and I feel SRC will always have some grey areas when it comes to moderation but at the end of the day; the more competitive it is, the more eyes will be on it.
We all know Xenkaroshi; he's unfiltered; what you see is what you get! And honestly, he is a person that cares about the integrity of the leaderboards. I am not saying he demonstrates that with tact, but he cares. If he didn't care, he would just leave the site too because who wants to put up with all this drama?
And MTL; when submitting a WR time, MTL should expect it will be questioned. It doesn't mean he cheated, but yes, the community may want to proof call the run - this is common everywhere - not just speedrunning - a WR run is held to a higher standard purely by it's nature. Charlie felt that his time wasn't accurate, so he re-timed it. So did LynnCarius. There was a timing error, that's all
We all have a right to submit a time here, and be competitive - and when we submit a time, we expect we are going up against times that are accurate to the rules and standards - we expect a fair competition.
So please, keep this in mind, not just for Life Force but for every leaderboard - put aside the suspicions and bias and review the submissions according to the rules and what the community has decided is fair. MTL should feel welcome here just as any other runner - that the moderation team and community isn't going to be biased.
ManTuoLuo has informed me that they have deleted their speedrun.com account.
I see that we have more posts today than a long time, once again however it is not exactly for the best topic. I have long moderated and administrated many leaderboards and online gaming communities. In that time I have witnessed things like this before, and TBH, there is yet to be an absolute solution. Even if we use all the resources at our disposal, there are still ways that cheating can transpire, and the ability to police it remains limited to the aforementioned resources.
In regards to Xenkaroshi, we have not always been on the best terms, and in the past there have been instances on record of him being impolite, rude, or at times even biased against some speedrunners. Regardless of this, they are still here and speaking up about what they feel is the truth. This conflict was the basis of them being removed as moderator here and the whole Big 20 fiasco that I quickly spoke up about and put an end to.
In regards to ManTuoLuo, they suddenly petitioned to become a moderator here, and after careful review, LynnCarius and I decided to allow it. Now that they have stepped down, for whatever reason, we are going to have to become more critical when it comes to new applicants or reviewing submitted speedruns.
The integrity of the moderators is critical when addressing the aspect of competitive speedrunning. Thus, it is also equally critical that transparency also, be prioritized here. I am always willing to listen to the community and enact changes based upon what they want. That is the foundation of speedrunning, founding new categories, challenges and the spirit of competition. We must also remember to HAVE FUN though. I have experienced first hand what happens when too many rules and regulations harm the fun factor, and it is not good, it leads to division within communities and people becoming deeply offended.
That said, I am open to any suggestions or solutions the community may offer here. I will petition for ManTuoLuo to return but it is ultimately their choice, same with Xenkaroshi. We cannot make everyone happy, but what we can do is make a clear effort that we are trying.
I just wanna close with, we're never gonna be best of friends. But I did unblock you @CzaR - I'm getting too old for this lol and I've already run this game. i did post a little something in the big20 channel too, im healing! I just genuinely wish the best towards the moderation team and to me nowadays it's just fun for a shmup to get some much needed love. We have more of those!! Gradius II cough.
@dalaocu I understand this is a similar issue where a submission was rejected based on rules but it's for a different game - and I checked the S.C.A.T leaderboard - maybe the rules have changed now and emulator runs with VODs on sites other than Youtube or Twitch would be allowed. Either way, I would suggest any discussions for S.C.A.T. be continued on those forums.
WOW! Finally, someone has discussed the issue of Xenkaroshi. This guy does this not only in the Life Force and Gradius series, but also often causes disharmony in the community in other games. He is not competent to be the super moderator of the Gradius series. SRC needs to consider replacing the super moderator of the Gradius series :)
my movie played on Nov.14,2021, at that time the rule not changed. When we got the fastest, he changed the rule, so we didn't want discuss the "play rule", we only care the fastest movie is true
